In the distance David was coming at him at full speed. David drew his sword as did Thomas. The loud crash of their swords could be heard far in the fields. Amelia and Guillaume had rode past David and he instructed them to follow the young soldier back to the secured area.
“You are still protecting her? I AM YOUR BROTHER!” Thomas yelled.
“A brother who would not think twice in killing me.” David replied.
“It is something you well deserve for betraying your kingdom.” Thomas added.
“I betrayed no one but your feelings, little brother!” David mocked.
Thomas charged at David.
“You are a wonderful swordsman but never better than I.” Thomas said as he fought with David.
“You were taught by the best, as I remember.” David replied.
David cornered Thomas by a tree. Thomas with no sword stood there helpless.
“How does it feel to know you are about to die?” David whispered. “You tell me brother? Thomas responded as he stabbed David with a knife in the gut.
David fell to the ground and Thomas ran towards his horse.
As he got up on his horse he said “Whenever I visit Wynnfrith Forest I will think of you brother. What a beautiful place to die.”
He quickly took off towards Landford.
David lie severely injured. Blood was gushing from him and he could not stop it. He became dizzy and passed out.
Upon arriving at the secure grounds Amelia, sent the young soldier back to look for David.
“Thomas will kill him if he has the opportunity.” Amelia mumbled.
“I will return back with him, now that I know you are safe.” Guillaume affirmed.
“No my love, you cannot, he will cause you harm.” Amelia replied.
“Amelia, I can take care of myself, let me help David, I owe him dearly.” Guillaume begged.
“I will be ok, trust me.” Guillaume added.
Greyson arrived as Guillaume was preparing to leave.
“Amelia” Greyson said.
“My dear Greyson, what are you doing here?” Amelia responded.
“Serving my Queen, as always.” Greyson answered.
Greyson looked over to Guillaume. “Is all well?” Greyson asked.
“I’m returning back to help David, he stayed behind to stop Thomas.” Guillaume replied.
“Thomas? He came after you?” Greyson asked.
“Yes and he almost had us if it wasn’t for Amelia, she felt his presence.” Guillaume added.
“I will come also” Greyson asserted.
“No dear Sir, please stay here and protect Amelia, she needs you right now.” Guillaume suggested.
Greyson bowed his head in agreement.
“Be off and be careful” Said Greyson.
“I love you” Amelia yelled.
“As do I Amelia.” Guillaume responded as he made his way through the forest.
“My dear Amelia, come here my child.” Greyson said.
“Oh Greyson, I’m so happy you are here. I have missed you so much.” Amelia added.
“I have missed you also, my sweet. I see you are being well taken care of.” Greyson commented.
“Yes, Guillaume has made me complete,” Amelia said as she giggled.
“I am very happy for you, you deserve happiness.” Greyson said as he hugged her.
“Greyson, I am so worried, David is a great swordsman but he is no match for Thomas.” Amelia confided.
“David can protect himself, especially from Thomas, he did teach him most of what he knows. I am not concerned about him.” Greyson replied.
“Let’s take you back to your tent, so you can rest a bit. You’ll see they will be back soon” Greyson added.
Guillaume and the young soldier made their way back. There was an unusual stillness to the forest, very eerie. Fog had begun to cover the view.
“Stay as quiet as possible, your ears will be your best ally.” Guillaume said.
“My lord, this was the location where I last saw David” The young soldier said.
Guillaume got off his horse and walked slowly. They suddenly heard moaning in the distance.
“Shhh, you hear that?” Guillaume whispered.
The young soldier nodded. Guillaume pointed in the direction the sound came from. As they walked, the sound became louder.
“There he is” said the young soldier.
They both ran towards David. He lie covered in his blood, barely alive.
“Help me put him on the horse; we must get him back to camp.” Guillaume said.
They quickly rode to get help for David. Upon arriving at the camp, the young soldier yelled for help. Greyson came out of his tent and ran toward them.
“He is very hurt, Greyson.” Guillaume whispered.
“You go tend to Amelia, I will tend to David.” Greyson responded.
Greyson took David into the medical tent as Guillaume ran to Amelia’s tent.
“Guillaume, my heart, you are back.” Amelia said as she hugged him.
“Where is David?” She added.
Guillaume had no response.
“Where is my brother, Guillaume?” She asked again as she tried to leave her tent.
“He is with Greyson, he needed medical attention.” Guillaume replied.
“I must see him, be with him.” Amelia insisted.
“Amelia, please, it is not good.” Guillaume pleaded.
Amelia pushes her way through and made her way to the medical tent. David lay on a blanket. Greyson stood nearby.
“David!” Amelia yelled as she ran to him.
There was no response. She looked over at Greyson. Greyson had a somber look on his face.
“He is gone, my child.” Greyson said quietly.
“What! What do you mean?” Amelia shouted.
Guillaume grabbed Amelia’s arm. She looked at him with teary eyes.
“No, it cannot be true” Amelia cried.
“I am so sorry; I got him here as fast as I could.” Guillaume murmured.
“It was not your fault Guillaume, Thomas did this.” Greyson assured him.
Amelia was inconsolable.
“Thomas will pay for this, Greyson. If I have to be the one to make him pay, he will!” Amelia affirmed.
