I stood near the window looking out at the birds chirping. Squinting my eyes I stepped out in the sun in the garden outside our house. The blooming flowers spread it’s sweet fragrance everywhere. It’s strange that how this place that once was pleasing to eyes, doesn’t appease me anymore. The same place seemed so beautiful and serene was my favourite part of the house when Zane was with me but now even this place fails to provide me peace. It’s amazing how one person can make so much difference in your life.
I went inside the house and dolefully sat on the bed. Adam and Suzan were back from the prisoner’s world once the magic was broken after the death of Gizelle. Our revenge was over but it couldn’t bring my Zane back. Life isn’t a fairy tale with happy endings. I miss Zane’s presence. Life is nothing without him. I’m a vampire, an immortal, but what’s the meaning of living forever without the person you love? Zane brought colours to my otherwise dull life and now his absence has made my life dull again. All the colours, all the joy, all the happiness is gone with Zane. I have returned to that sad lonely world again where I once used to be, from where Zane had brought me to the world of happiness.
I stood up from the bed. Looking at the bright sun, I now wish that I wasn’t touched by the purple stone so that this sun could burn me down. I quickly pushed away this thought from my mind because this vampire’s life was given by Zane. He turned me into a vampire because he wanted ne to live and so I will, no matter how hard it gets I won’t quit, not again.
I opened the door hearing the ring of the doorbell. I hugged Suzan and invited all three of them inside.
“We came to check how you were doing” said Adam
“I’m fine” I forced a smile.
“Even if you are not, you will be, after tonight’s party” said Suzan cheerfully.
“Party?”
“Yeah, there’s a party at the club near highway for completing it’s twenty or whatever years and we are all going” she said. I opened my mouth to protest but she placed her palm on my mouth, to shut me up and said “There’s no ifs and buts. You’re coming us and that’s final”
The music was too loud for me so I walked out of the club and stood under the tree, trying to find some peace on this silent road. Suzan came following me.
“You alright?” she asked out of concern.
“Yeah. I’m fine. I felt that the music was too loud for me so I came out” I responded. Later we were joined by Adam and Eric.
“Any personal talks girls?” Eric winked who was then punched in the face by Suzan. I chuckled at how they were fighting like kids. Adam stood in between them signalling them to peace out and we all burst into laughter. I looked up in the sky at the moon.
“If Zane was alive, he would have been a pureblood Vampire today” I said still not shifting my eyes from the full moon that shone bright in the dark sky. I felt Suzan’s hand on my shoulder.
“That’s right, besides he’s dead” I turned tiO the voice who had just spoken such harsh words.
“Gizelle?” Suzan exclaimed.
“Hola!” she said.
“We killed you” said Eric
“But you forgot what I had said before dying. Alright. Alright. I repeat those golden words again. IT’S. NOT. EASY. TO. KILL. A. WITCH.” she said stretching each word.
“You used fire to kill me but don’t you know that when you use fire to kill a witch, she returns again until she has been killed thrice by fire. And BRAVO I wasn’t ever killed by fire before. So you know I had to return. For my lovely friends?” I hate how she laughs. I want to kill her right away. I tried to grab her neck but before I could extend my hand, she casted a spell on all of us because of which we couldn’t move. Wouldn’t have thrown salt and pepper if we had even a slightest idea that she would return. She removed a stake from her satchel.
“You have to be the first one to die darling, since we know each other for quite long time” she walked towards me with that stake in her hand. I closed my eyes, knowing this is going to be my end.
“Ahhhhh” I opened my eyes at her screech. Don’t know what happened to her but she was bleeding from the chest.
She fell down on the ground and I can’t believe what my eyes are seeing. Is this real? Or am I dreaming? Is Zane really standing in front of me? Or am I hallucinating him?
“You survived because you were destined to be killed by me” he said looking at the dead body of Gizelle, his hand covered with Gizelle’s blood as he was holding her heart in his hand. Indeed he has ripped out her heart from her chest, leaving her no chance to survive.
“Now she’s finally dead. No chance of coming back” he said looking at us. I was still watching him without blinking my eyes until he kissed me.
“Zane” I threw my arms around him, to wrap him in a hug. Tears flowed down my eyes like how waterfall falls from the mountain. I touched his face and arms and chest to be sure that this wasn’t a dream and he was really standing in front of me. Alive.
“Missed you buddy” said Adam and Eric hugging him. It was not just me who was crying but all of us.
“We thought you’re dead” said Suzan with a teary eye. I was still in Zane’s arms.
“She rubbed wolfsbane on my body. But little did she know that wolfsbane kills werewolves not vampires. It may put a normal vampire down but it can only make an elite unconscious until the moon illuminates it’s light upon them. She had kept me in a coffin which prevented the moonlight from touching my body but yesterday she removed my body from the coffin and placed it outside Gravier and Bryon’s house thinking no one would ever come to know that I was there. And as soon as my body came in contact with the moon’s light, I woke up again” Zane explained everything, how he was here and everyone hugged him once again. I can’t express my happiness. My love is alive and my happiness has returned.
Zane stood under the full moon, closing his eyes and opening his arms, allowing the moon to disperse it’s light on him. He had a different aura when the moon dispersed all it’s light upon him. He was shining bright.
“Gosh” said Suzan.
“You’re a pureblood vampire now” I said still in awe with the scene in front of my eyes.
He turned back to us and went down on his knees “Will you marry this pureblood Ms. Blaire?” he proposed and I relived the moment he had proposed me on the New Year’s night. Only difference was, this time the moment was more beautiful and more jubilant than before. Our friends blowed whistles and cheered for us as I nodded my head in a yes. Suzan was right, I’m more than just fine after this party.
The leaves do fall in autumn but spring is a promise to everyone of us. Just like how rainbow appears after a hurricane, I got my perfect story and ever lasting happiness after battling hard against all the odds. When I thought I had lost my love forever, I found him back. If I had given up that time thinking Zane would never return, I would have lost my love in true sense. I found my love again and together we shall always be, till eternity.
I have made a note to myself and whenever I feel that the things ain’t going my way or feel the urge to give up, I would remind myself that –
‘When it’s your time,
The intensity of pain will diminish and
soon it will disappear,
You’ll see the new you, when the
hurricane’s gone, and the rainbow comes
out.
The clouds must be pouring rain of
remorse and grief now,
But the Sun of Conviction. Jubilation and
Fruition will soon come.’
