“Ms. Calder, no need to be polite, it’s just a small gesture.” Leo smiled warmly at her.
“Your eyes are really swollen. Let me give you a massage and it will go away in no time.” Leo held up a mirror in front of Willow.
“Ugh, I hate it!” Willow pouted and lay obediently on the examination bed after seeing herself in the mirror.
Leo took off her glasses and gently massaged the acupoints on her head and around her eyes.
Suddenly there was a loud bang from inside that startled both Leo and Willow.
Leo rushed inside to find Chasel lying on the ground with a stool next to him. A suitcase had fallen from the top of the cabinet as well.
“It’s okay, just fell down.” Chasel quickly waved his hand while trying to get up with support from the stool.
But when he tried to stand up with force, he suddenly felt sharp pain in his waist like being stabbed by needles. He sat back down again holding his lower back in agony.
“What happened, Chasel?” Leo hurried over and touched his waist after which he breathed out relief knowing that only muscles were strained but bones were fine.
Then Leo used his thumb to press hard on Chasel’s waist which made him feel much better instantly.
“I’ll put two patches for you later,” said Leo smilingly.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me these days. I’m so absent-minded that even things fall off my hands!” complained Chasel while standing slowly holding onto something for support.
“When you fell earlier, did you feel anything strange?”
After glancing at Chasel once more, Leo suddenly changed expression as he sensed an aura of faint evil energy emanating from him which was barely noticeable if not scrutinized closely enough.
“Nope! Just blanked out all of sudden then woke up lying here,” answered Chasel truthfully.
“Has anyone suspicious come around lately?” asked Leo seriously again.
“Nope,” replied Chase firmly denying any possibility of such occurrence happening recently.
“It’s impossible.” Leo muttered, then started searching around the room.
“Mr. Bloomer, what are you looking for? Do you need help?” Willow curiously asked.
“No, it’s fine.” Leo replied, engrossed in his search.
After a full half-hour, Leo thoroughly searched the entrance and inside the clinic but found no abnormalities.
At that moment, he saw Chasel going out the back door to take out the trash, so he quickly followed. He looked around but didn’t notice anything unusual.
Leo sighed helplessly and turned back toward the room. However, in a glance, he suddenly noticed something inconspicuous in the corner of the wall.
Once he saw what it was, Leo’s heart sank, and his face turned pale.
Leo took a quick step forward and saw a censer placed at the base of the wall.
It was an ancient and quaint censer, covered in thick rust. Inside the censer, there was cooked rice and a burning incense stick emitting a slow stream of black smoke.
If it were just an ordinary censer, it wouldn’t be a big deal. It could be something used by people nearby to pay tribute to their deceased loved ones. But what was eerie was that the rice in the censer was cooked!
As the saying goes, cooked rice offered to the spirits invites a visit from countless ghosts.
The person burning incense like this clearly had ulterior motives!
Leo glanced at the censer and suddenly noticed something underneath it. He gently moved the censer aside and saw a yellow talisman stuck beneath it.
Upon reading the contents of the talisman, Leo couldn’t help but be shocked. The drawing on the talisman turned out to be related to summoning spirits and curses!
Leo quickly stood up and looked around but didn’t find any suspicious figures.
Frowning, Leo realized that the person who set up this trap must have considerable knowledge and specifically targeted his clinic.
Chasel’s recent absentmindedness and injuries were undoubtedly related to this censer.
Because Chasel stayed at the clinic at night, he was easily influenced by negative energy.
And this was just the beginning. If this incense burned for another thirty or forty days, Chasel might lose more than half his life.
“Mr. Bloomer, what’s wrong? Did something happen?” Willow and Shiloh followed curiously after seeing Leo searching frantically, thinking something had gone wrong.
“It’s nothing. I lost something but found it now.” Leo quickly stood up, ignoring the censer and cheerfully called them inside.
In the evening, Leo ordered a few dishes, and everyone had dinner at the clinic. Afterward, Willow and Shiloh left.
Before they left, Leo gave Shiloh a set of keys and explained the working hours to her.
After leaving the clinic, Leo went to an antique shop and bought two jade pendants. After enchanting them with spells, Leo approached Chasel.
“Chasel, come here. I’m giving you two small jade pendants.” At that moment, Chasel was tidying up the room and hastily waved his hand, saying, “I can’t accept such valuable items.”
“Why can’t you accept them? Come on, one for you and one for Bonnie, for protection and good luck.” Leo quickly handed the jade pendants to Chasel.
“Well, I’ll keep Bonnie’s, but I’ll pass on mine. A jade pendant doesn’t suit me at all.” Chasel said, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Leo chuckled at his words. Chasel was a big and burly man, and wearing a jade pendant around his neck did seem a bit mismatched.
“If you can’t wear it, just put it in your pocket.” Leo smiled.
As long as Chasel had this jade pendant, the negative energy attracted by the incense outside will not be able to harm him.
The reason Leo didn’t touch the censer today was to avoid alerting the person behind the sinister plot. He wanted to expose the person using dark methods from behind.
Although there were no surveillance cameras installed behind the clinic, Leo knew that even if there were, the other party would find a way to counter them. But just to be safe, it would be better to install one in the future.
…
Sophia Cosmetics.
Fanny, who was persistent, came again.
Of course, this time Fanny didn’t come to cause trouble. She didn’t dare.
“Sophia, maybe you don’t know yet, but Henley’s Corp has been acquired by the Mcguire Group in Riceland. The Sophia Cosmetics is now under the ownership of Henley’s Corp, which means it belongs to the Mcguire Group.” Fanny dropped a bombshell on Sophia.
“What did you say? Henley’s Corp has been acquired? What exactly happened?”
Fanny sneered, “Outsiders will always be outsiders, knowing nothing. In order for Henley’s Corp to develop better, after negotiations with the Mcguire Group, they acquired Henley’s Corp with an extremely tempting offer.”
“Of course, this is only a nominal investment acquisition. Bruno is still the chairman of Henley’s Corp, and I am still the vice-chairman, also serving as the general manager of Sophia Cosmetics.”
“Let me tell you, all of this is backed by legal documents. When you had those thugs attack me in the gray area, the Mcguire Group won’t let you off lightly. Just wait for the retaliation from the Mcguire Group!”
