“hello, mam ” a waiter approached me while I sat on a chair. I looked at her and a sweet girl was standing there with a beautiful smile.”What do you want to have?” she asked as she handed down a menu.
I took the menu in hand and took a glance at it. There were name of the various types of coffee. I pointed at cappuccino “I want this please”
The waiter smiled at me and once again her white row of teeth was seen. She slightly nodded as she walked away.
“Tring” just then my mobile phone vibrated once. I took it out and looked at it once. It was Rick, he had message me the addressof the resturant and then another message followed by. It states “Please get her there at eight, it’ll be perfect time to propose her. Please”
Eight? Won’t it be a little late? But they are the ones I have. I have to help him. I sent him a OK with a smiley emoji.”Thank you so much Riley” he messaged me once again.
I wanted to message him back but the waiter approach towards me with my cappuccino. So I keep my phone aside.
“Here you are mam” she put it down and left the table.
I took a sip and keep my eyes still at the gate of Golden’s gate. When I was middle of drinking my coffee, people started to came out of Golden company.
I panicked and asked for bill. The same waitress came with bill in her hand and put it down in front of me. I quickly put some money on it and ran out of the cafe. I called Anyee as I walked out.
She picked up the phone after two rings.”Hello”
“Hmm, Anyee can we meet up?” I asked her.
“Meet? What happened? Where are you?” she asked me back.
“I’m actually at the entrance of Golden” I told her so as I walked to the entrance.
“What are you doing there? Do you get off work early?” she keep inquiring me.
“Why are you talking so much? Come pick me up” I pretended to be a bit angry.
“OK, just wait there” she hung up the phone.
I waited there for a few minutes and her car pulled off just few steps from me. She down one of her window and signaled me to come over.
I nodded and walked over to her car. I put the bag in front of window.
“What’s going on?” she darted me with question as soon as I entered her car.
“What? Can’t we just meet up?” I pinched her cheek and she frowned.”I just wanted to catch up with you. It’s been a while we haven’t seen each other” I make a genuine excuse, so not to get caught.
“Why today?” she made a pale face.
“Why not today? Don’t you want to spend some time with me?” I asked her trying to make a puppy face.
She shook her head “It’s not like that. Actually, Rick is sick and I was heading to his home from here” she explained.
What should I say to her.. Think Riley, think.”Ahh, he called me a while ago and we decided this” I blurted out.
“Decided what? ”
“We decided to have a night out. Lunch together and then some old talks” I said.
“Is he mad? He told me he was not fine just at the morning and he’s planning night out with you” she opened her bag “Let me call him just now. I’m going to take a good class” Anyee seemed furious but I can’t let her just spoil the plan. So I grabbed her hand and stopped her..
“Don’t ruin it Riley, it was already hard to make the plan and you want to ruin it already” I pouted. She seemed hesitant for a while but eventually she put down her phone back in the bag.
“Fine, but I’ll go change first” she smiled finally..
“I’ve got you a dress” I handed her the bag…
“What for ?” she asked me with suspicion.
I make a angry face at her “What do you mean by that? Can’t I give you anything? Or you don’t want to take anything from me?”
“Why are you angry? I’m not refusing, I was just asking” she quickly softened and tried to calm my fake anger while I wanted to burst out laughing at her reaction “I’ll wear whatever that is”
“Is that a word?” I make my little finger in front of her. She smiled and tangled her little finger in mine.”It’s a word”
“OK, let’s go to your home then” she drove the car to her home.
On the way to her house, my phone rang once again. I take a look at it and it was Mr. Gold. He was calling me.
I looked at Anyee, I don’t want to pick it up in front of her, she don’t know about me living with Mr. Gold…. A thought ran across my head.
“Why aren’t you picking up? Who is it? “she dragged me back from my thoughts.
“Huh, I was thinking something” I smiled at her.
It is better if I pick it up. A boss can call his assistant any time. I’ll make a excuse later on.
“Hello” I picked up the phone and out it on my ear.
“Where are you?” A deep and cold voice came from other end.
“I’m.. I’m at”
“Don’t even try to lie to me. Tell me where are you, I’ll came to pick you up” he sounded aloof.
“I’m with a friend. I’ll came after I finish my work”
“Are you shopping for so long? You can just tell me and I can buy a shop for you” he spoke and I really don’t have slightest bit of suspicios on his words. But I really don’t like him doing this for me. I felt as if I’m not capable. I stayed silent for a while but he broke the silence “And who is your friend?”
Why was he acting like he care? I shook my head as I answer “Anyee, I’m with her right now”
Anyee looked at me and smiled. I smile back at her.
“Tell me where you are and I’m coming there” he repeated himself again.
“No, I’ll be home after having dinner. You don’t have to wait for me or pick me up. I’ll be there on my own. I’ll hung up now” I cut the phone and turned it silent. I can’t just let him ruin her surprise.
“Who was it?” Anyee raided her eyes at me.
“Mr. Gold”
“Why was he calling you?”
“I’m his PA” I rolled my eyes at her.
“But you guys were talking about home”
“He want me to join for dinner. He might have something to discuss about the work”
“And why would he discuss about work at his home over dinner? And not at office?” she looked at me and added more “And how can you deny him? Is he your boss or you are his? ”
“Why are you asking so much question. We have all night to talk to” I made her face look away from me.”Focus on driving for now”
She glared at me once but thankfully she didn’t ask me anything further.
In a while we reached her building and it was the first time I was going to her apartment. It was on third floor, it was a two room apartment with attached kitchen and a living room.
I gave her the dress and asked her to wear it. She went inside and came out again as she wore the dress.
I was stunned to see her in that outfit. It was fitting her perfectly “You look beautiful in that dress” I exclaimed.
“It is just too much Riley, you are that simple and look at me”
“Shut up” I dragged her in front of mirror and do her makeup and hair. She was protesting but I didn’t listen to her. She looked very beautiful by then and about seven thirty, we leave her apartment.
“Where are we going and where is that liar” she asked as we sat on the car.
“He said he’s already on the way” I had already messaged him and he was already there waiting for us.
When we reach the restaurant, it was so lively. He had booked twelve floor since it was at the top and it was perfect view.
I took her to the elevator and pressed twelve.
“Twelve? Have you reserve the place already? You know it’s quite hard to find a place there without reservation” she asked.
“Why do you keep talking? ” I asked her.
“I was just saying”
When we reached the floor. I pretended I was not fine.”What happened? ” she asked out of concern.
“I need to use washroom, you go ahead and I’ll join you in a while” I made up an excuse.
“No, I’ll go with you.” she replied.
“Don’t you just say it I’d hard to find a table here. You just go”
“But..”
I pushed her a bit and she finally gave in. As she took few steps ahead I quickly hide behind a corner.
