Jessica pulled Sophia onto the couch.
“Mom, do you have something to say? Just spit it out,” Sophia asked directly, sensing that something was amiss.
Jessica’s eyes darted around as she pretended to be angry. “Speaking like that will hurt my feelings. As your biological mother, shouldn’t I care about you?”
“You made Leo and me divorce; is that caring for me?” Sophia retorted.
Jessica looked embarrassed for a moment before explaining herself. “Sophia, you’re wrong about this. I didn’t force Leo to do anything; he realized he had done wrong and wanted to divorce you on his own.”
“And now that Leo has changed and hits me all the time, how could I possibly force him to sign the divorce papers?” Sophia added.
Since what had happened was already in the past and there was no use dwelling on it anymore, Sophia didn’t want to make things worse for herself by saying more than necessary. “Mom, if there’s nothing else you need from me then I’ll go upstairs,” she said bluntly.
When Sophia was about to get up, Jessica quickly grabbed her hand.
“Sophia, do you really hate me that much? You won’t even talk to me a little?” Jessica said.
“Parents in this world always love their children. These past few days, when I saw you with a troubled face every day, you can’t imagine how much it hurt my heart,” replied Jessica, her face expressing love, concern, and distress.
“Mom, if you really loved and cared about me, you wouldn’t have let someone like Gilbert into our home that day.”
A mother knows her daughter best, and Sophia wouldn’t easily be deceived by Jessica’s appearance.
Jessica let out a sigh. “The reason I did that was to help you move on from a failed marriage. My intentions were good…, let’s not talk about that. I promise you, Sophia, I won’t let Gilbert appear in front of you again. I will find someone else for you…”
“No need, I won’t get married again!” Sophia said firmly.
Jessica thought Sophia was just saying it out of anger, so she held her hands and said with deep emphasis, “Sophia, I can’t bear to see you stay single. Here’s the deal: from now on, you can find your own partner, and I won’t introduce anyone to you. Now, let’s talk about Leo.”
“Leo’s matter?” Sophia was taken aback. What exactly was her mother trying to say? “I’ve already divorced Leo, his matters have nothing to do with me.”
“You can’t say that. As the saying goes, a married couple owes each other for a hundred days. At least you were married to Leo for four years…”
“Mom, what are you trying to say!?”
Jessica hesitated for a moment and sighed, “I mean to say that we may have misunderstood Leo.”
“That’s right, after I showed you that photo, I had someone investigate it thoroughly, and the situation might not be what we imagined.”
Sophia remained silent, looking straight at Jessica.
“Leo and those women might just be ordinary friends. He might not have done anything to hurt you…”
At this moment, Sophia looked at Jessica as if she were a stranger, her face filled with incredulous expressions.
What was wrong with her mother today? Could she have taken the wrong medicine?
Life is like a drama, relying on acting skills, or maybe Jessica got the script wrong?
Previously, Jessica had done everything possible to make Sophia divorce Leo, so how could she suddenly make a complete U-turn and speak well of Leo?
After the surprise, Sophia’s incredulity ultimately turned into a bitter smile. “Mom, we’re already divorced. What’s the use of saying all this now?”
“Silly girl, getting a divorce is not such a big deal. You can remarry, can’t you?”
“Mom, tell me honestly, why did your attitude towards Leo change so drastically?”
Jessica sat up straight, giving a serious expression. “These past few days, I’ve deeply reflected on myself and felt quite guilty towards Leo. Although he might not have achieved much, he was still the one I brought in. Because of thewedding announcement, your illness improved, and he hasn’t done anything to harm you or this family, so…”
Jessica’s words once again left Sophia stunned. It was unimaginable to hear such a dramatic change in her mother’s words.
“Mom, are you speaking from your heart?” Sophia asked in disbelief.
Jessica nodded earnestly. “Today, I’m being completely sincere with you, Sophia. After all, Cloud Dream Mountain Villa was bought by Leo. I think it’s inappropriate to kick him out. How about letting him come back to live here? And if possible, would you consider remarrying him?”
Sophia pondered for a moment and replied, “Let’s talk about remarriage later. If you want him to come back and live here, I have no objection. You can call him yourself.”
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll go upstairs and rest,” Sophia stood up from the couch.
As a woman, Sophia had her own dignity. Even if Leo hadn’t done anything wrong to her, the fact that he had been with other women behind her back was undeniable.
Although Sophia wasn’t a petty woman, jealousy was a woman’s instinct.
There was also one thing that made Sophia angry. On the day they went to the Civil Affairs Bureau to handle the divorce procedures, when she threw the photo at Leo, he didn’t explain anything to her and didn’t even call her afterwards.
So the precondition for remarriage could only be Leo explaining everything in person and sincerely apologizing to her.
Otherwise, hmph, she wouldn’t forgive him!
After Sophia went upstairs and entered the bedroom, Martin came out of the guest room.
He had heard Jessica and Sophia’s conversation clearly.
As a couple, Jessica could deceive Sophia, but she could never deceive the person lying next to her, Martin.
Martin’s understanding of Jessica went deep into his bones.
Although Martin didn’t speak much in this household, he knew very well that ever since Leo showed up, and Sophia’s illness improved, Jessica saw Leo as a thorn in her side.
Jessica never missed an opportunity to kick Leo out of the house, so why would she suddenly want him to come back and even suggest that Sophia remarries him?
Watching Jessica sitting on the couch, with her legs crossed and a triumphant expression on her face, Martin hesitated for a moment before he couldn’t help but ask, “Jessica, I heard everything you said to Sophia just now. What exactly do you plan to do to Leo?”
“Martin, what do you mean? What I plan to do, do I have to report it to you in advance?” Jessica raised her head, glancing at Martin with a sidelong look.
“Jessica, whatever you plan to do, for the sake of our Sophia, I advise you to stop,” Martin had no other choice but to offer this advice.
