Since the car was used by criminals to escape, it was impossible for them not to have some food in the car.
Leo got out of the car again and found a lot of drinks and snacks from the trunk.
He handed Coral a bottle of white wine. “Here, take a sip. It will warm you up.”
Coral took a small sip but still shivered from the cold.
Leo had no choice but to let her sit in the back seat and find something warm for her to cover herself with.
It was almost winter, and as night fell, temperatures dropped even lower. They needed to find a way to keep warm.
Leo found camping gear and a flashlight in the trunk. He said to Coral, “Wait here; I’ll go outside and look for some branches to start a fire.”
Coral nodded with trembling hands clasped together.
The camping gear included everything they needed for survival in nature, including tents that were very complete.
The criminals must have planned their escape route long ago and made sufficient preparations beforehand.
With one hand holding his flashlight and another dragging his camping gear bag, Leo left the highway towards an open field on his right side.
After finding somewhere comfortable enough, Leo stopped there and started setting up campfire tents.
The bonfire quickly ignited. The flames danced like elves at night bringing warmth into this cold night sky.
Leo was about to get up to fetch Coral from the car when he saw her running towards him in the glow of the fire.
They spread a canvas on the ground and sat down by the campfire.
The warmth of the fire dissipated the cold around them, and the two of them sat with their arms open, occasionally adding dry branches to the fire.
The campfire, the tent, and the presence of another person made it look like they were camping in the wilderness. If they ignored the frustration of the car breaking down, it was actually quite romantic to have a beautiful woman accompanying him.
Leo would occasionally turn his head to look in the direction of the stalled Buick car, while Coral rested her head on his shoulder, her eyes closed, and a gentle expression of contentment on her face.
This scene couldn’t help but remind her of the night she and Leo had spent in the wilderness before, in a pit.
It seemed that she and this man always ended up experiencing something out of the ordinary.
Feeling Leo’s occasional glances, Coral raised her head and looked at him, asking, “Do you really hope a car will pass by here?”
“Don’t you?” Leo asked in return.
“I actually hope no car ever passes by here,” Coral answered seriously.
Coral rubbed her head against Leo’s shoulder a couple of times and whispered softly, “I just like leaning against you like this, feeling your breath, listening to your voice. Especially in this wilderness, just you and me, I think it’s a very romantic thing.”
Looking up at the sky, the moon was bright and the stars were sparse. If it weren’t for the nighttime, this remote place away from the city would have had a clear and clean sky.
Leo looked up at the night sky somewhat absent-mindedly, while Coral gazed at his cheek, lost in thought.
“Leo, do you know what women like most when men give it to them?” Coral asked softly.
“A sense of security?” Leo replied uncertainly.
Coral gently shook her head, a smile appearing at the corner of her mouth. “It’s not just a sense of security. Actually, what women like most is a warm feeling that comes from the soul. If a man can give a woman that feeling, then the woman will deeply fall in love with him.”
Leo nodded, seeming to understand.
Coral stopped talking and rested her head on Leo’s shoulder, her hands embracing his waist.
Leo’s body stiffened for a moment, but he let her hold him.
Time passed minute by minute, and just as Coral began to feel a bit drowsy, Leo suddenly whispered, “A car is coming.”
Coral raised her head and released her grip on Leo’s hand.
Leo stood up from the ground, took Coral’s hand, and moved away from the dying campfire towards the Buick car.
Just as the two of them reached the side of the Buick car, a pickup truck approached with its high beams shining brightly.
Leo quickly walked to the middle of the road, waving a flashlight to signal the pickup truck.
As the distance closed, the driver of the pickup truck noticed him, and the horn honked a few times before finally stopping two meters in front of Leo.
The headlights of the pickup truck remained on, and the engine was still running. The driver’s head popped out of the window, and he shouted, “What’s going on? Don’t block the road!”
“Sir, our car broke down. Could you give us a ride?” Leo said slowly, approaching the truck. The two men inside the truck exchanged a glance, seemingly communicating something through their eyes.
When Leo got closer, he could see the driver’s face. The driver had a cold expression, as if he didn’t want to be bothered.
“Sir, it’s not easy to be out here. Can you help us out? I’ll reward you,” Leo pleaded.
The driver pointed to Coral standing next to the Buick car with the help of the headlights and asked, “You two?”
Leo nodded, and the driver glanced at the man in the passenger seat, giving him a signal. “Let’s go, get out and help him with the car,” he said.
The man in the passenger seat nodded, and Leo noticed that he seemed to have something tucked under his armpit.
The two men got out of the car and walked up to the front of the Buick, their gaze briefly pausing on Coral.
Coral walked over to Leo’s side, cautiously grabbing his arm. These two men made her feel a sense of unease.
The driver walked up to the Buick, opened the hood, and after inspecting it for a moment, he said, “Bro, it’s a minor issue. Come and take a look.”
Leo let go of Coral’s hand and walked over to where the driver pointed, just as his companion made a move.
Suddenly, the man reached into his pocket and swiftly pulled out a wrench, forcefully smashing it down on the back of Leo’s head.
In an instant turn of events, witnessed by Coral, fear widened her eyes.
Before Coral could even make a sound, a scream of “Ah!” rang out, filled with agony, but it wasn’t Leo who made the sound.
The man holding the wrench was sent flying backward, falling to the ground and convulsing, even foaming at the mouth.
This scene dumbfounded the driver, who didn’t understand what had just happened. However, the cold expression on Leo’s face made him realize that there was only one thing he could do next – run!
In the remote wilderness, a stranded Buick car, a man, and a beautiful woman.
This aroused impure thoughts in the minds of the two men who were on their way to deliver goods in the city. They were not only enticed by the prospect of money but also by desire.
As the driver turned around and hadn’t run far, he felt a pain in the back of his head, followed by a “clang!” sound, as if a wrench had fallen to the ground. After that, the driver knew nothing.
The pickup truck once again drove on the road, with Leo at the wheel and Coral in the passenger seat.
