Angus took the bowl and began to dab it onto his eyelids.
Leo reminded him, “Be careful not to get any alcohol in your eyes, or they will hurt a lot and you may experience temporary blindness.”
After Angus finished, he handed the bowl to Eric who was curious and started dabbing it on too. Oakley couldn’t resist and exclaimed, “I want to do it too!” Leo laughed and said, “You’re already part of the group so you don’t need to do it.” This made Oakley disappointed.
Seeing his expression, Leo found it amusing that this guy was really carefree. He hoped he wouldn’t be scared out of his wits later. Ghosts fear sunlight; that’s why lonely spirits only appear at night. At night, there is less sunlight which means more negative energy providing an environment for something.
Leo hadn’t noticed anything about Oakley that would attract ghosts but why would they target him? During the day ghosts naturally wouldn’t appear but once night fell if he wasn’t around Oakley, then ghosts would definitely come looking for him.
However, if he was with him, then things were uncertain.
Just like in the animal kingdom, there is a natural sense of danger between predators and prey. That feeling of being hunted is innate.
Because of this, Leo couldn’t be certain if the ghostly creature would come for Oakley tonight.
However, even if it didn’t come, Leo had a way to summon it because Oakley carried the ghost’s aura.
“Mr. Booth, Mr. Lynd, I’m about to perform a ritual to summon the ghost. You just need to watch quietly and make sure not to move or make any sound. Otherwise, it could scare the ghost away, and that would be troublesome.”
Leo reminded them because he couldn’t determine exactly what kind of ghost had attached itself to Oakley.
In reality, “ghost” was just a general term, and ghosts themselves had specific classifications.
Leo knew of three types of ghosts. Each type had its own characteristics and corresponding methods of resolution.
The first type was called a “ghost spirit,” which was the most common type of ghost lingering in the mortal realm.
Ghost spirits were formed when a person died and, for some objective reason, was not taken by the underworld’s emissaries. As a result, they aimlessly drifted in the mortal realm.
The consciousness of these ghosts was faint, and their only purpose in the mortal realm was to await the underworld emissaries to guide them to the afterlife and reincarnation.
These ghost spirits were essentially harmless, as they only dared to appear between midnight and four in the morning. Even a living person’s positive energy could scare them away.
These ghosts typically wore white burial clothes and only appeared in desolate and remote mountains and hills.
The second type of ghost fell between harmless ghosts and malevolent spirits. These ghosts were not inherently harmful, but due to their strong autonomous consciousness and inability to enter the afterlife, they engaged in some frightening behaviors during their bored wandering.
For example, suddenly hearing someone call your name from behind while walking alone at night, or seeing eerie blue ghost fires in desolate mountains and hills.
These ghostly creatures usually appeared in rural areas because cities had a high concentration of people and abundant positive energy.
They were typically dressed in black burial clothes.
Lastly, there was the most terrifying type of ghost, the true malevolent spirit.
For a ghost to become this type, it needed to meet three conditions: first, an unnatural death; second, not being taken by the emissaries of the underworld after death; and third, gaining complete autonomous consciousness under certain circumstances.
Once these three conditions were met, a horrifying malevolent spirit would manifest.
After this type of ghost appeared, the first thing it did was seek revenge on the person who killed it. After taking revenge, the evil thoughts of this ghost became even stronger, and its vengeful thoughts will transfer to any living person it encountered.
In other words, the sole purpose of this malevolent spirit lingering in the mortal realm was to continuously harm people under the control of resentment and evil thoughts. It relied on harming others to obtain Ghost Spiritual Power and prolong its existence in the mortal realm.
This type of ghost did not wear burial clothes but appeared as a phantom. It can transform into any form it desired at will.
Leo arranged various ritual props such as incense, incense burners, yellow paper, cinnabar, and rootless water on the coffee table.
Leo gestured for Oakley to sit on the sofa and asked Angus and Eric to stand farther away on the side.
Then Leo stood opposite Oakley, with the coffee table between them.
Leo’s next step was to summon the ghost that had targeted Oakley. This required using a secret technique called the Ghost Summoning Technique.
Leo took three sticks of incense from the coffee table, held them in a specific gesture with both hands, and they automatically lit up, bowing in the four cardinal directions.
Paying respects to the spirits in the four directions before performing the ritual was an unwritten custom. Although it didn’t really serve any purpose, it added a professional touch.
Leo extended his right hand, and with a flash of golden light, a peach wood sword appeared in Leo’s hand. This magical act astonished Oakley on the sofa.
Leo used the peach wood sword to pick up one of the talismans on the coffee table. The talisman stuck to the sword as if it were glued, and when Leo made a specific sword gesture, the talisman ignited.
“Netherworld sins and souls, follow the incense and flags. Resolve with wisdom, the blue lotus flower of eternal peace! By the decree of the Supreme Old Lord Immortal, ghostly creature, appear swiftly, according to the law, amnesty!”
Leo chanted the incantation while wielding the peach wood sword, and at a glance, it did resemble the rituals performed by wizards in remote mountain areas.
The peach wood sword swung over Oakley’s head, which startled him greatly.
Then Leo’s peach wood sword struck one of the talismans on the coffee table, and a few strands of hair appeared on the talisman.
There was no doubt that the hair belonged to Oakley.
Unable to resist, Oakley reached up to touch his own head. He couldn’t believe that the seemingly toy-like wooden sword was so sharp.
Oakley’s body was tainted with the presence of the ghost, and Leo intended to use his hair as a lure to summon the ghost using a secret technique.
The peach wood sword dissipated, and Leo formed different hand seals with his left and right hands simultaneously, pointing them at the burning incense and the talisman with hair.
The swirling blue smoke from the burning incense gradually converged towards the talisman.
The three straight columns of smoke unexpectedly changed direction and descended onto the talisman.
The talisman began to burn, and then the smoke slowly dissipated, spreading a creepy aura.
After completing all this, Leo closed his eyes slightly and stood by the coffee table as if he were in deep meditation, seemingly waiting for something.
After about five or six minutes, Leo’s eyes suddenly opened.
He didn’t expect the ghost to arrive so quickly!
Angus and Eric also seemed to sense something. Their eyes widened, and they nervously looked around.
