Angus understood Eric and knew that he wouldn’t joke around about something like this. As he looked at Leo, his expression became more serious.
“Mr. Booth, can I see your wife?” Leo asked.
Angus quickly retrieved a box from the coffee table and handed it to Leo, saying, “Dr. Bloomer, take a look at this first.”
Leo took the box and opened it to reveal an antique copper mirror – the kind used for grooming in ancient times.
The moment Leo touched the mirror, his Spiritual Power reacted within him, causing him to feel uneasy.
Of course, this was not a good reaction; rather it was an autonomous response to sensing danger.
The style of the copper mirror was unique with its green patina indicating its age as being very old – possibly from an ancient dynasty or era.
Although he didn’t know where the mirror came from specifically, Leo knew that it wasn’t ordinary; in fact it was an evil artifact known as a demonic tool.
Demonic tools carried negative energy which acted like radioactive substances causing great harm to human bodies while also making them see evil things or experience strange events.
The demonic artifact was not entirely useless. For a Demon Cultivator who trod the path of darkness, the demonic artifact was as precious as a spiritual weapon. They can use a sinister secret technique to control the demonic artifact and make it their own, using it to absorb the life force of ordinary people and the Spiritual Power of other cultivators to enhance their own cultivation.
“Mr. Booth, where did you obtain this bronze mirror?” Leo’s tone became somewhat grave.
Angus felt a sense of fear towards the bronze mirror and answered, “I don’t know who sent this bronze mirror to my wife. She thought it was a gift from someone trying to establish a connection and didn’t pay much attention to it. But strangely, three days after receiving the bronze mirror, my wife…”
Just then, a scream suddenly came from the ward, followed by the sound of glass shattering on the floor.
The scream seemed to come from Aubri, the maid. The three individuals outside the room’s expressions changed, and they quickly stood up and entered the inner room.
The interior decoration of the room gave off a warm feeling, unlike the usual monotony and coldness of a regular hospital room.
In addition to the hospital bed, there was a sofa and a set of storage cabinets in the room, which were kept clean and tidy.
The glass cup in Aubri’s hand fell to the ground and shattered. She stood dumbfounded by the bedside, her face filled with fear. When she saw Angus and the others coming in, she couldn’t help but point at the person lying on the hospital bed and stammered, “Th-th-there’s… a ghost…”
“Nonsense!” Angus snapped, glaring at her disapprovingly. “Hurry up and clean up the broken glass on the floor!”
Aubri seemed to be afraid of Angus and quickly lowered her head to grab a broom from behind the door.
Leo’s entire attention was focused on the woman lying on the hospital bed.
The woman had fair skin, and although she took good care of herself, the crow’s feet around her tightly closed eyes revealed her age.
She was covered with a quilt, with only her face showing a pained expression. Her eyes were tightly shut, her eyebrows furrowed, and it was unclear whether she was sleeping or unconscious.
Angus approached the bedside, held the woman’s hand, and his face was filled with worry and tenderness.
“Dr. Bloomer, this is my wife. Her condition fluctuates between good and bad. Sometimes she wakes up, and other times she falls into a faint. I have invited renowned doctors from both domestic and foreign sources to examine and treat her, but they were all helpless. Please save my wife,” Angus pleaded with a mix of worry and desperation in his voice.
Seeing the painful state of his wife, Angus let go of his previous prejudice against Leo and spoke with a pleading tone.
Leo walked to Angus’s side and motioned for him to release his grip.
Although Angus didn’t know what Leo was going to do, he still let go of his hand and took two steps back.
Leo sat down by the bed and raised the woman’s right hand, turning it over in his palm, attempting to find some clues through palmistry.
At first glance, Leo’s brows furrowed again.
The lifeline in the palm of her hand was blurry from the middle to the end, appearing less prominent compared to the other two lines.
Leo could determine from the woman’s palm on the sickbed that there was indeed something wrong with her body, not in terms of illness but in terms of geomancy.
Leo began to probe the woman’s body with Spiritual Power, and then his gaze fell on her abdomen. A strange expression appeared on his face, and he muttered, “The stomach?”
Angus’s eyebrows twitched upon hearing these two words, and his gaze towards Leo became filled with anticipation.
“Dr. Bloomer, after receiving the bronze mirror, my wife unexpectedly showed signs of pregnancy. I initially thought it was a late-life child, but her belly grew unusually fast. In just three days, she already showed signs of labor,” Angus said, affectionately stroking the woman’s forehead on the sickbed.
He continued, “I brought her to the hospital for an examination, and after an ultrasound, there was no fetus in her belly. Even the doctor was shocked by this.”
“After the examination, she fell into this semi-comatose, semi-conscious state. The doctors are also helpless in dealing with this situation.”
“Mr. Booth, could you please uncover the blanket on your wife’s body? I want to see her stomach,” Leo let go of the woman’s hand, pondered for a moment, and stood up.
The current condition of the woman on the sickbed was very strange. It seemed that there was a dark and ominous aura inside her belly, something that couldn’t be detected by instruments like ultrasound.
