Chapter 622: Rejected

Although Wade Occam’s words were tactful, they made it clear-he didn’t want to offend President Mackintosh by directly refusing him. However, when it came to rejecting Leo directly, Wade Occam had no psychological burden whatsoever.
Even though President Mackintosh explicitly mentioned Leo’s remarkable medical skills over the phone, in Wade Occam’s view, a school was not a hospital, and exceptional medical skills wouldn’t be of much use. Moreover, traditional Chinese medicine was becoming less relevant, both in society at large and within the small community of the school.
Taking the example of the Chinese Medicine Department, the number of students in the entire department was still not as many as in one class of the Western Medicine College. Langstel Medical University primarily focused on Western medicine, and Wade Occam estimated that in a few years, the Chinese Medicine Department might struggle to exist.
Considering all these factors, it was challenging for Wade Occam to buy into Leo’s story of being a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner.
After learning of Wade Occam’s attitude, Leo’s enthusiastic heart turned cold. He wasn’t the type to persist when faced with a cold reception. He immediately said, “Mr. Occam, since there’s no position available, I won’t bother you. You don’t need to notify me in the future.”
Seeing Leo’s understanding, Wade Occam smiled, “Thanks for your understanding. As for President Mackintosh, you don’t need to tell him about this. I’ll personally call him and explain everything.”
Leo just smiled and left the principal’s office.
Watching Leo’s figure disappear outside the door, Wade Occam sneered, “Such a young kid claiming to be a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner and wanting to lecture at my school-how ridiculous.”
Leo felt disappointed by Wade Occam’s attitude, and when it came to traditional Chinese medicine, he could see a hint of disdain in Wade Occam’s eyes.
In a medical university, even here, the attitude towards traditional Chinese medicine was evident. It was challenging for traditional Chinese medicine to survive and thrive in today’s society.
After leaving the medical university, Leo drove directly to the unnamed traditional Chinese medicine clinic.
Outside the clinic, Sakura was playing with Bonnie.
When Bonnie saw Leo, she quickly ran up to him, “Uncle Leo, you’re here!”
Leo smiled, nodded, and asked, “Bonnie, have you finished your homework?”
Bonnie nodded cutely, “I finished it a long time ago. Aunt Sakura helped me.”
At this moment, President Mackintosh walked out of the clinic.
Before coming to the clinic, President Mackintosh had called Wade Occam. Learning that Leo hadn’t reported to the medical university yet, he came directly to the clinic.
President Mackintosh’s arrival surprised Leo. He wondered if Wade Occam had informed President Mackintosh about his rejection from lecturing at the medical university. Was that why President Mackintosh came to the clinic personally to explain the situation?
Although Leo thought this way, he said, “President Mackintosh, if there’s anything, you can just call me. You’re busy with work, and there’s no need to come to my clinic every time.”
“It’s better to discuss this matter face to face,” President Mackintosh smiled.
Leo thought this might be the case. Perhaps Wade Occam had informed President Mackintosh that he wasn’t allowed to lecture at the medical university, and President Mackintosh came to the clinic to explain the situation in person.
While Leo had these thoughts, he said, “President Mackintosh, please go ahead.”
President Mackintosh showed a sincere expression on his face, a hint of anxiety, and said, “Dr. Bloomer, I have an idea. The Chinese herbal pills you administered to Paul last time, can we authorize a pharmaceutical factory to mass-produce them? This way, those patients suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis can be saved.”
Leo thought for a moment and replied, “Of course, that’s no problem.”
Seeing Leo readily agreeing, President Mackintosh couldn’t help but applaud, “Dr. Bloomer, your compassion for others in the medical field is commendable. I must thank you on behalf of those patients. I happen to know the director of a pharmaceutical factory, a person with a good heart for public welfare. We can entrust the formula to this pharmaceutical factory, and Dr. Bloomer, you can rest assured.”
To be honest, President Mackintosh was still slightly shaken by Leo’s selflessness. The secret formula for treating amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, once auctioned publicly, would easily fetch a price in the tens of millions. However, Leo didn’t bat an eye when he agreed, displaying such generosity and magnanimity that even the old dean couldn’t help but feel inferior.
What it truly meant to have a compassionate heart as a healer, President Mackintosh felt that Leo embodied this perfectly.
Entering the consultation room, Leo fetched paper and pen, detailing the medicinal ingredients, proportions, preparation methods, and effects of the herbal pills he had given to Paul.
After finishing the instructions, Leo handed the paper to President Mackintosh and said, “President Mackintosh, the herbal pills I provided to Paul were made roughly due to time constraints and limited equipment here. If we entrust the production to a pharmaceutical factory, the effect will be much better.”
President Mackintosh quickly took the formula paper, expressing his gratitude, “Dr. Bloomer, this formula is a life-saving elixir. Your merits are immeasurable.”
Although the formula paper was light, President Mackintosh knew its significance.
At this moment, Chasel and Sakura brought two cups of tea.
Carefully tucking away the formula paper, President Mackintosh took a sip of tea and, remembering the matter of inviting Leo to teach at the school, asked, “Dr. Bloomer, when do you plan to start teaching?”
At the mention of teaching, Leo couldn’t help but feel a bit annoyed.
“President Mackintosh, to be honest, before coming to the clinic, I went to the medical university.”
“Oh, you met Mr. Occam. How did he arrange things?”
“I did meet him. However, Mr. Occam said the school currently has no positions available. He told me to wait, and when there’s an opening, he’ll let me know.”
Leo’s words made President Mackintosh furrow his brow. He hadn’t expected Wade Occam to play such a double-faced game, promising one thing in person and another behind his back.
President Mackintosh said with indignation, “Dr. Bloomer, I apologize for this. When I called Wade Occam earlier, he agreed to it. I didn’t expect him to play such tricks. He’s really not a decent person!”
“Let it go, President Mackintosh. There’s no need to get angry. If I don’t teach, it’s fine.” Although Leo was also displeased, the school belonged to someone else, and getting angry wouldn’t help.
“Dr. Bloomer, if Wade Occam doesn’t want you to teach at the medical university, it’s his loss. Let’s find another university. I have good relations with the president of the Chinese Medicine University. I’ll call him now!”
Leo didn’t particularly want to teach at a university, but before he could stop him, President Mackintosh took out his phone and dialed a number.
After a few rings, the call was answered.
Once President Mackintosh explained the purpose of the call, the person on the other end sounded somewhat hesitant. However, when President Mackintosh mentioned Leo’s name, their tone suddenly became excited.
“Tyler, do you know Dr. Bloomer?” President Mackintosh curiously asked.
“I haven’t met him in person, but I’ve seen videos of him competing in medical skills with Dr. Rudolph. The acupuncture techniques he demonstrated… oh, oh…” Tyler Mark’s voice on the phone was enthusiastic, “Having Dr. Bloomer come to the Chinese Medicine University is a dream come true!”
