Chapter 590: The Never-Ending Mother-in-law

Book:The All-powerful Son-In-Law Published:2024-6-3

Leo’s mouth twitched twice. When he stood up, it was with the intention of leaving, but he didn’t anticipate Sebastian’s suicide.
If Jacob had killed his parents just now, Leo would have decisively ended him. However, since Jacob chose death over harming his parents, Leo decided to spare his and his parents’ lives.
After all, Kerr was the real culprit. Now that Jacob had killed Kerr, organizations like the Bernard family, notorious for their criminal activities, should be dealt with by the police.
“Let’s go,” Leo signaled to Bob.
Outside the villa, two cars were parked. Bevis, standing by the cars, gestured for Leo and Bob to get in.
Shortly after these two cars left, five or six police cars, sirens blaring, rushed into the Bernard family estate.
Jacob, his hands covered in blood, was escorted into a police car, while Sebastian and Ann were taken to the hospital.
Despite the doctors’ efforts, Sebastian, due to excessive blood loss, didn’t survive.
Ann, on the other hand, experienced extreme shock, leading to complete mental breakdown, turning her into a lunatic.
Jacob, convicted of murder, was sentenced to death and stripped of political rights for life.
With this, the Bernard family, which had dominated Maple Coast for fifty or sixty years, fell apart completely.
Back at Maple Leaf Mansion Hotel, Leo and Sophia learned that Joanna and Eden were being treated in the hospital for serious injuries.
Leo asked Bob and the others to stay in the hotel for now, while he took Sophia to the hospital.
After all, Eden and Joanna were injured while protecting Sophia.
In a hospital room, Leo and Sophia saw Eden, Joanna, and Eden’s assistant, Yanis, sitting by the bedside.
Eden and Joanna looked miserable, with casts on their hands and feet, resembling mummies at first glance.
It was evident how ruthless Dagen and the others had been.
When Leo and Sophia walked in, Eden and Joanna moved their bodies.
“Mr. Bloomer, I’m sorry I couldn’t protect Miss Henley,” Eden said apologetically.
Sophia quickly replied, “Eden, don’t say that. I’m the one who got you into this mess. I should be the one apologizing.”
“Mr. Bloomer, Miss Henley, I’m sorry. I told the Bernard family where Miss Henley was hiding,” Joanna said sorrowfully.
Leo waved his hand, “You two don’t need to say anything. I understand. We owe you.”
While Joanna did reveal Sophia’s location, it was under the circumstances of being beaten to this extent. Leo could empathize. If Joanna hadn’t disclosed where Sophia was, she might have been beaten to death by the Bernard family.
Joanna had done her best despite having no personal connection to Leo, Sophia, or Eden.
Next, Leo used acupuncture to treat Eden and Joanna, prescribing two sets of medications for them.
In no more than half a month, Eden and Joanna would fully recover without any lasting effects.
The next day, Leo, Sophia, and Bob left Maple Coast by plane.
As for Eden, due to his injuries, he couldn’t return in the short term. Also, his relationship with Joanna had undergone a qualitative breakthrough, and he might not return to Langstel in the future.
Yanis, Eden’s assistant, took charge of the post-production work for the wedding photos.
Back in Langstel, due to the traumatic experience in Maple Coast, Sophia decided to rest at home for two days to recover.
Leo spent a day accompanying Sophia at home and, on the second day, went to the Nameless Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic in the morning and visited the jade and stone markets in the afternoon.
Leo had actually considered resigning from the position of Chief Jade Appraiser at Wilde Jewelry Group and had shared this idea with Coral. However, Boss Wilde vehemently disagreed and brought out the contract Leo had signed.
Surprisingly, there was a seemingly insignificant supplementary clause: unless Wilde Jewelry Group dismissed Leo, he couldn’t resign unilaterally, and the duration was six years.
Honestly, when Leo signed the agreement initially, he didn’t even bother reading it, resulting in him losing control now.
Unable to do anything about the contract he had signed, Leo reluctantly continued as Wilde Jewelry Group’s Chief Jade Appraiser.
In the afternoon, Sophia enjoyed the rare afternoon sunshine on the spacious balcony, listening to music and reading a book.
Jessica walked over, her eyes flickering, and called out, “Sophia, come over. Your mom has something to tell you.”
Sophia set down her book and turned to ask, “Mom, what’s up?”
“Come here,” Jessica beckoned impatiently, “It’s important.”
Sophia had to get up and walk over.
“Mom, you’re usually not home at this time. What’s so leisurely today?” Sophia asked curiously.
Jessica replied with dissatisfaction, “It’s all because of you!”
“Because of me?” Sophia was even more puzzled.
“Silly girl, did you forget what I told you before? I asked you to find out how much money Leo has. Have you figured it out?” Jessica took on a lecturing tone, “And, did you register Cloud Dream Mountain Villa No. 9 under your name as I told you to?”
Sophia, judging from Jessica’s expression, knew she hadn’t done either and retorted, “Mom, spare me the beating around the bush. Just tell me what’s going on.”
“I told you before to check how much money Leo has. Have you done that?” Jessica took a lecturing tone, “Also, did you register Cloud Dream Mountain Villa No. 9 under your name?”
Jessica could tell from Sophia’s expression that she hadn’t done either. She got angry, saying, “I knew you wouldn’t do it. You don’t take important matters seriously but went off with Leo to take those wedding photos! You really don’t appreciate what you have!”
It seemed Jessica had postponed her usual leisure activities this afternoon just to talk to Sophia about this matter. Sophia found it rather speechless.
“Mom, my affairs are none of your business. Are you dissatisfied with our current life?” Sophia was helpless in front of her mother.
Jessica put on an expression of solicitude and continued to advise, “My dear daughter, your mom has a lot on her plate every day. If you weren’t my own daughter, I wouldn’t bother with your affairs. Everything I do is for your own good.”
“Think about it. Leo is, after all, the son-in-law I brought in. Do you still remember what kind of person he used to be? Now suddenly, that rascal Leo is prosperous. Aren’t you curious about where he got the money and how much he has? Also, this Villa No. 9 will be your joint property after marriage. At least half of it is yours, so your name must be on the property certificate.”
“Of course, if it’s only in your name, that would be even better.”
After a long and tedious lecture, Jessica left Sophia feeling frustrated and confused.
Leo’s gaze shifted to Kerr and May.
Sebastian immediately understood, turned, and shouted at Kerr and May angrily, “You two, what are you still doing? Hurry up and come over to apologize to Mr. Bloomer!”
Kerr and May glanced at each other, but they couldn’t move. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to move; their bodies just wouldn’t respond.
It wasn’t expected that the final outcome would be like this. The once mighty and dominant the Bernard family of Maple Coast was defeated by a gold-digging son-in-law! Not only that, even the renowned Sebastian was kowtowing and apologizing to this son-in-law!
If it weren’t witnessed, even fools wouldn’t believe it.
Additionally, Murray Hoover, Mavis, and Dagen hadn’t appeared. Could it be that all three of them… were dead?
Thinking about this, Kerr felt a mix of horror and despair.
Seeing Leo’s expression getting worse, Sebastian stood up from the ground and directly dragged Kerr and May over.
May, who had never experienced such a terrifying situation, was directly frightened to tears.
Leo was momentarily surprised by Yale Leigh’s words. Initially, he thought this crew-cut guy was someone Bob had brought along.
Now, Leo turned his attention to the crew-cut man and was startled.
He could distinctly sense that this man was exceptionally powerful, much stronger than Murray Hoover.
Glancing at the collapsed figures of Murray Hoover, Sebastian, Jacob, and others on the ground, Leo finally understood. The real person who saved him was this unfamiliar man with the crew cut.
Bob and Bevis had witnessed Yale Leigh’s frightening abilities in the mansion’s living room; they didn’t dare to utter a word of refusal.
Moreover, they knew this man had also come to rescue Leo. After saying a word to Leo, they followed Chasel out of the dungeon.
Yale Leigh waved his right hand, and a powerful internal force erupted. Sebastian, Murray Hoover, Jacob, and the others on the ground were all knocked unconscious by the force.
Yale Leigh walked up to Leo, a slightly cold smile appearing on his stern face. “I know you must be curious about who I am and why I saved you.”
Leo was indeed curious, nodding, “Please go ahead.”
“I am a member of WONDER,” Yale Leigh said solemnly.
“WONDER!?” Leo’s face showed a surprised expression.
Seeing Leo’s reaction, Yale Leigh was somewhat surprised. “It seems you’ve heard of us.”
“I heard about you from a friend,” Leo thought of Madame Godwin, who had informed him about some information regarding WONDER while in the hospital.
“Why did you save me?” Leo asked.
Yale Leigh replied, “I am Yale Leigh, the leader of the second special operations unit of WONDER. The reason we saved you is simple: WONDER wants to offer you a proposition.”
