Chapter 588: Playing a Game

Leo found Yale Leigh’s proposal surprising, “You want me to join WONDER?”
“Yes, we’ve been observing you for months. Your conduct and abilities align with WONDER’s recruitment criteria. That’s why I’m extending an invitation to you,” Yale Leigh replied.
Leo was taken aback by this revelation. Despite being a cultivator, he had been under surveillance for months, completely unaware and undetected.
It emphasized how formidable WONDER was.
Leo chuckled, saying, “You’re exaggerating. I’m just an ordinary person.”
“You are far from ordinary; you’re a cultivator,” Yale Leigh said with a playful tone.
While Yale Leigh’s previous statement about observing Leo had surprised him, the current revelation left him utterly shocked. There was no doubt that WONDER had thoroughly investigated his background and secrets.
The power of the national machinery was indeed formidable.
Leo fell into silence.
After a while, he looked at Yale Leigh and said, “What if I don’t want to join WONDER?”
Yale Leigh’s cold expression couldn’t hide a smile, “You’re overthinking it. WONDER won’t force anyone, especially a powerful cultivator like you. As I mentioned, I’m only extending an invitation; the choice is yours.”
“Of course, you don’t need to rush your decision. Take your time to think about it,” Yale Leigh said, taking out a card and handing it to Leo. “If you decide, you can call me anytime.”
Leo took the card; it had a phone number and nothing else.
Yale Leigh raised his hand, checking the time, “Alright, my job here is done. The rest is up to you.”
As Yale Leigh prepared to leave, he took a few steps but turned around to add, “By the way, let me remind you, whether a cultivator or a martial artist, taking the lives of ordinary people, even if they are wrongdoers, is not a good thing. Let the law deal with ordinary people. That’s all I have to say. Goodbye.”
“Wait!” Leo quickly called out.
“What’s wrong? Have you made up your mind?” Yale Leigh raised an eyebrow.
“No, I want to ask, do you know an old man? Also, in this world, are there many cultivators like me?” Leo inquired.
Yale Leigh smiled mysteriously, “I can’t tell you that now. If you want to know, it’s simple-join WONDER.”
“Never mind,” Leo shook his head.
Although WONDER was impressive, Leo was used to being free and disliked constraints or being controlled by others.
Of course, he owed WONDER a favor after this incident; he might consider joining in the future.
After Yale Leigh left, Leo turned his gaze to Sebastian, Jacob, and the others on the ground.
It was time to settle the score for the injuries he had suffered.
Approaching Murray Hoover, Leo planned to wake him up first.
Just as Leo was about to act, Murray Hoover suddenly sprang up from the ground and threw a punch at Leo.
Leo’s cultivation breakthrough had significantly improved his reaction time. He raised his hand and blocked Murray Hoover’s unexpected punch.
However, Murray Hoover’s punch was a feint. After using the block as leverage, he exerted all his strength, turning and rushing out of the dungeon.
Murray Hoover had actually woken up earlier but pretended to be unconscious. He escaped only after Yale Leigh left. The reason for his escape was simple: severely injured by Yale Leigh, he was no match for Leo and would face certain death if he didn’t flee.
Leo didn’t bother chasing him. First, he wasn’t sure he could catch up, and second, his focus was on dealing with Sebastian and Jacob.
Leo woke up Sebastian, Jacob, Mavis, and Dagen.
Upon waking, Sebastian noticed Murray Hoover was missing. Seeing Leo’s cold smile, he knew he had fallen into Leo’s hands today.
As a prominent figure managing the Maple Coast and the head of the Bernard family, Sebastian didn’t want to lose his last bit of dignity. He glared at Leo and said, “Useless son-in-law, you won. If you want to kill me, go ahead and do it!”
“You dead dog, if you have the guts, kill me. Just don’t touch my dad!” Jacob shouted.
Leo picked up the knife Dagen had prepared to stab him, tapping it in his hand while saying, “I do want to kill you, but I think killing all of you straight away would be too boring. What to do?”
“I know! Let’s play a game!”
“Play your sister!” Jacob cursed.
“Smack!” Leo delivered a direct slap.
It was a harsh slap; Jacob not only spat blood but also lost a few teeth.
“You all must play this game, whether you like it or not!” Leo wore a wicked smile. “The rules are simple. I’ll place the knife on the ground, and you fight to grab it. The last one alive can leave this place.”
Jacob was stunned. This wasn’t a game; it was forcing them to kill each other!
“Isn’t this game thrilling? You have no choice. You have one minute. If no one acts within a minute, I’ll personally take care of all four of you.”
Leo took out his phone, opened the timer app, set it for one minute, and began the countdown.
By the way, Leo didn’t call Sophia when he was in the dungeon because there was no signal. In such a place, the phone’s primary function was to check the time.
Watching the countdown on the phone screen, Sebastian and Jacob’s fragile dignity collapsed. They quickly crawled to Leo, bowing and pleading, “Leo, we were wrong. We shouldn’t have offended you. Forgive us, please.”
“You threw me into this dark dungeon and tied up my wife. Do you think I’ll spare you?” Leo sneered.
Sebastian hurriedly said, “I’m willing to compensate you with money. How much do you want? Name your price.”
To Sebastian, any problem that could be solved with money wasn’t a problem.
“Money?” Leo pondered. “That can work. Give me a trillion, and I’ll spare you.”
“A trillion…” Sebastian’s mouth hung open.
Leo clapped his hands. “Can’t afford it? Then let’s continue the game. Your time is running out.”
Sebastian wanted to negotiate with Leo, but Jacob unexpectedly grabbed the knife from the ground and stabbed it into Dagen’s abdomen.
