Book:The All-powerful Son-In-Law Published:2024-6-3

“Leo and Sophia are here. Why hasn’t Bruno shown up yet?”
“Yeah, could he have taken a leave for some reason today?”
“I doubt it. I know Bruno’s temper. He never misses a family meeting. There must be something wrong.”
At exactly half-past nine, the old Mrs. Henley-Teresa, entered with her dragon-headed cane.
The people in the meeting room stood up promptly, offering greetings. Those who called her “mom” did so, and those who called her “grandma” did likewise.
The old Mrs. Henley nodded slightly. Just as she was about to take her seat at the main position, a mournful voice echoed from outside the meeting room.
“Oh my, who is that? It scared me!”
“It sounds like Bruno.”
Everyone rushed to the door to see what was happening.
They saw a figure wrapped in bandages, beaten and sitting in a wheelchair, slowly wheeling into the meeting room.
The pitiful sight left everyone momentarily stunned before they recognized it was Bruno.
Fanny hurried over with concern, “Bruno, what happened to you? Who did this to you?”
Some relatives from the Henley family, who were close to Bruno, also gathered around.
The usually calm face of the old Mrs. Henley now bore a shadow.
Leo and Sophia exchanged glances, surprised by Bruno’s unexpected performance.
Bruno glanced at Leo and Sophia, then wheeled his chair in front of the old Mrs. Henley. With a heart-wrenching tone, he cried, “Grandma, I was almost beaten to death by someone. I almost couldn’t see you again…”
“Bruno, what happened? What’s going on?” Teresa asked in a stern voice.
Bruno wiped away fake tears and said sorrowfully, “Grandma, it’s Leo, that useless scum, and Sophia. I don’t know what I did to offend them. They actually spent money to hire a group of thugs to beat me, almost beating me to death.”
Upon hearing this, chaos erupted among the Henley family members.
“What!? Leo and Sophia hired someone to attack?”
“Look at Bruno’s condition. What kind of grudge could justify such a brutal attack?”
“If Bruno had really been killed, wouldn’t it be the end of the Henley family’s lineage?”
Sophia, unable to bear the accusations, was about to stand up and defend herself but was stopped by Leo.
Leo could see that Bruno had come prepared today. It had been days since the incident in the cold storage, and Bruno had the audacity to play the victim first. Leo decided to let him perform.
When the news of Leo and Sophia hiring thugs to attack reached the old Mrs. Henley’s ears, her expression darkened to the extreme. Her sharp gaze fell on Leo and Sophia, “Leo, Sophia, did you attack Bruno?”
Sophia looked at Bruno and sneered, “Bruno, as your cousin, I feel ashamed to be related to a heartless bastard like you.”
Hearing Sophia openly insult Bruno, the old Mrs. Henley’s anger surged. She pointed at Sophia, “Sophia, this is the family meeting room. How dare you insult your cousin in front of me? It seems you have no regard for me.”
“Grandma, just a few days ago, Bruno kidnapped me in the elevator of the Golden Leaf Shopping Plaza’s underground parking lot and even tried to kill me!” Sophia argued.
“Bruno kidnapped you?” Teresa first looked puzzled, then burst into a cold laugh. “Sophia, your storytelling skills are getting better and better. Are you blind? Look at Bruno’s condition. How could he kidnap you?”
Fanny quickly chimed in, “Exactly! It’s clear that you and your useless cousin paid thugs to beat Bruno. Yet, you dare to twist the truth in front of Grandma. Shameless!”
Members of the Henley family began attacking Sophia and Leo, expressing their support for Bruno.
Leo knew it was time for him to step in. Rising from his seat, he cast an indifferent glance over the Henley family members, finally locking eyes with the old Mrs. Henley.
“Grandma, it seems your eyesight is getting worse. You might need reading glasses.” Leo mocked.
Before the old Mrs. Henley could react, the Henley family members erupted like dogs whose tails had been stepped on, barking furiously.
“Am I hearing correctly? A freeloading waste of space son-in-law dares to mock Grandma?”
“This worthless dog thinks he’s Queen Elizabeth’s precious pet, it’s pathetic.”
“Grandma, why keep something as useless as this dead dog? Just sweep him out like trash.”
Leo paid no attention to the barks of the Henley family members. He maintained his gaze on Teresa’s eyes and continued, “Grandma, Bruno and Sophia are your grandchildren, both part of the Henley family. Yet, you blindly believe that beast Bruno and question Sophia. Is that appropriate?”
The old Mrs. Henley slammed the table in anger, shouting, “Leo, don’t be insolent in front of me. I believe what my eyes see!”
“That’s right. Seeing is believing, and hearing is deceiving.” Leo sneered, then walked over to Bruno.
“Leo… what do you want to do?” Bruno became nervous.
Leo extended his right hand and swiftly tapped a point on Bruno’s shoulder.
Bruno stood up from the wheelchair.
Then, Leo grabbed one end of the bandage and, like spinning a top, spun Bruno in place, stripping off all the bandages.
Once Bruno was steady, it was clear that he had no injuries whatsoever. His seemingly bruised face appeared to be the result of makeup.
Now, the Henley family members were left dumbfounded, exchanging bewildered glances.
“This… Bruno was actually pretending…”
“For no reason, why would Bruno pretend to be a mummy? Could he have really kidnapped Sophia?”
“How could Bruno possibly kidnap Sophia? There’s no motive. I refuse to believe it!”
Even when faced with irrefutable evidence, most of the Henley family relatives chose to stand by Bruno’s side.
“Grandma…” Bruno looked at the old Mrs. Henley with an innocent expression.
“Bruno, you are driving me crazy!” The old Mrs. Henley pointed her withered finger at Bruno. “Stop embarrassing me here. Get out!”
As Leo expected, the old Mrs. Henley showed no intention of punishing Bruno, just instructing him to leave the meeting room.
Watching Bruno casually exit, Leo issued a warning, “Bruno, consider yourself lucky that Sophia wasn’t harmed. If you dare to hurt her again, I’ll make you disappear from this world!”
