Chapter 479: Poisoned

Book:The All-powerful Son-In-Law Published:2024-6-3

Upon reaching the Golden Leaf underground parking lot, Leo told Sophia to call him immediately if there were any developments regarding the shares.
Just as they left the underground parking lot, Dr. Rudolph called.
Leo pressed the car’s hands-free system.
“Dr. Bloomer, do you have a moment? Something has happened at Healnature Clinic, and I’m currently in another city. Could you please go there and take a look?” Dr. Rudolph’s voice sounded urgent.
Leo replied, “Sure, Dr. Rudolph, I’m heading over right now.”
He hung up the phone and drove straight to Healnature Clinic.
Upon arriving at the parking lot near Healnature Clinic, Leo parked his car and headed towards the clinic.
At this moment, a crowd had gathered outside the gates of Healnature Clinic. The people on the outskirts seemed to be curious onlookers, while those inside appeared to be arguing.
Leo approached and tapped the shoulder of a guy who was craning his neck to see inside. “Hey, buddy, what’s happening at Healnature Clinic?”
The man turned his head to glance at Leo and said, “Healnature Clinic’s medicine nearly killed someone. The patient’s family brought him here to make a scene.”
Chinese medicine from Healnature Clinic almost killed someone? That was unheard of, considering that Healnature Clinic had been around for over a century and had never encountered such a situation. This was indeed a suspicious turn of events.
Despite the disapproving glances from the crowd, Leo pushed his way through.
In the clinic’s lobby, a middle-aged man was yelling, “Healnature Clinic claims to be a century-old renowned establishment, but they sold poor-quality Chinese medicine! My brother took their Chinese medicine, and not only did his condition not improve, but he also ended up poisoned. This is playing with people’s lives! Such a deceitful clinic should be shut down!”
Beside the middle-aged man, there was a wheelchair with a man in it. The patient resembled the middle-aged man.
The patient had a pale and somewhat terrifying complexion, with bluish lips, a pained expression, rapid breathing, and clear signs of poisoning.
Additionally, the patient had an IV drip attached to him, suggesting they had sought medical attention before coming to Healnature Clinic.
Behind the patient were two women. One of them was likely his wife, and the other was his brother’s wife, his sister-in-law. Both women were visibly angry and continuously berating Healnature Clinic.
Since Dr. Rudolph wasn’t present, Nick had to take charge in this crisis.
“Don’t make baseless accusations. Our clinic’s medicine is absolutely safe!” Nick’s forehead was covered in sweat, and he appeared inexperienced in handling such situations.
Nick’s several apprentices stood behind him, looking uneasy and unsure of how to handle this.
The patient’s brother immediately took out the prescription and the medicine pick-up receipt and waved them in the air. He loudly declared, “Take a good look. Is this prescription from Healnature Clinic? And is this the medicine pick-up receipt from Healnature Clinic?”
Nick chose not to inspect the documents the man was holding and instead repeated firmly, “Our medicine at Healnature Clinic is absolutely safe!”
Leo couldn’t stand by any longer. He stepped forward and asked the man, “Can you show me the prescription and the receipt?”
Leo’s presence was a relief for Nick, who had never been fond of Leo before. Today, however, Leo’s appearance was a comfort to him.
The man hesitated but ultimately handed over the prescription and the receipt to Leo.
Leo carefully examined the prescription.
It was a formula for treating asthma, listing over twenty different Chinese medicinal herbs. This seemed to be Healnature Clinic’s exclusive recipe because in a typical case of asthma treatment, no other clinic would prescribe so many herbs.
The patient’s brother pointed at the prescription Leo held and shouted, “I’ve asked around, and for treating asthma, there’s no need for this many Chinese herbs. Healnature Clinic must have made a mistake or there’s a problem with the herbs, which caused my brother’s poisoning!”
The crowd, often sympathetic to the underprivileged, quickly joined the outcry.
“As the saying goes, all medicines have a hint of poison. Healnature Clinic prescribed so many herbs; maybe they did make a mistake.”
“The patient can’t even get up from the wheelchair, and they have substantial evidence. Healnature Clinic must take responsibility.”
“I don’t think this century-old brand is worth anything if it’s causing poisoning in a simple asthma treatment. Dr. Rudolph’s reputation as a miraculous doctor is just a façade.”
“Traditional Chinese medicine has long lost its charm. Almost all Langstel’s Chinese clinics are like this. We should go to public hospitals for treatment; these private clinics can’t be trusted!”
Leo, being a Chinese medicine practitioner and operating his own clinic, was unhappy hearing these remarks.
“Did you prescribe this formula?” Leo asked Nick with a stern face.
Nick, seeing Leo’s expression, replied hastily, “Yes, I prescribed it. This formula was developed by my master personally and has been used for over ten years without any issues.”
Leo handed the prescription back to Nick and said, “Double-check it.”
Nick received the prescription and carefully inspected it before nodding. “This is the prescription I prescribed. There’s no mistake.”
Leo took the prescription back from Nick and turned to the man, asking, “This prescription has no issues. It won’t cause any harm, let alone poisoning. Think back, did you add any other herbs during the process of boiling the medicine?”
The man firmly shook his head. “No, absolutely no additional herbs.”
Seeing the man’s certainty, Leo thought for a moment and said, “If you didn’t add any herbs privately, it’s possible that an error occurred during the boiling process.”
The man glanced at the women beside him and put on a calm expression, stating, “There couldn’t have been a mistake in boiling the medicine. My sister-in-law’s younger brother is a student of traditional Chinese medicine. He prepared the medicine according to the instructions on the prescription.”
The patient’s wife quickly concurred, “Yes, my brother prepared the medicine, following Healnature Clinic’s prescription to the letter. There’s no need for further excuses. It’s the medicine that’s the problem!”
As she finished, a guy of a similar age to Leo stepped forward from the crowd. He continued, “My sister is right. I’m a medical school graduate, majoring in traditional Chinese medicine. I helped my brother-in-law in preparing the medicine. I can guarantee that the dosage and preparation methods were correct. To prevent any dispute with Healnature Clinic, I’ve brought the medicine dregs for examination.”
After he finished speaking, he signaled to the woman, and she immediately retrieved a plastic bag containing the dregs from under the wheelchair and handed it to Leo.
