Bruno wasn’t foolish. How could he not see that Leo was trying to save the old Mrs. Henley? Although he doubted Leo’s ability to revive her, he couldn’t ignore the slim chance that she might survive.
The old Mrs. Henley must not survive!
“Leo, you good-for-nothing, what the hell are you doing? Grandma has passed away, and you’re sticking needles in her!” Bruno stepped forward, his impulse to confront Leo growing stronger.
Sophia hurriedly stood between Leo and Bruno, exclaiming, “Bruno, can’t you see that Leo is trying to save Grandma? What are you thinking?”
The lead surgeon quickly intervened, saying, “He is indeed trying to save the old Mrs. Henley. Please do not disturb him.”
The surgeon’s words sent Bruno’s heart plummeting into the abyss, twisting his expression into a grimace. “This guy’s just a freeloading parasite. How could he possibly understand medicine?”
The lead surgeon’s eyes sparkled with an unusual fervor as he countered Bruno’s statement, “He does indeed understand medicine, and his mastery of it is like nothing I’ve ever witnessed in my lifetime.”
Martin, unaware of Bruno’s sudden outburst, shot him a glare and huffed, “Bruno, can you please be quiet for a moment!”
Bruno’s face contorted, and his expression twisted in despair. “How can you let this freeloading waste disrespect my grandmother’s body like this?”
The growing fear in Bruno’s heart was palpable. If the old Mrs. Henley were to come back to life, it would not only shatter his dreams of becoming chairman but might also expose him in the investigation of the accident.
After inserting nine needles, Leo used silver needles to channel his Spiritual Power into the old Mrs. Henley’s heart, trying to rekindle her vitality.
Jessica, with her mouth agape, watched Leo in disbelief. Leo, her self-invited son-in-law, had suddenly become a proficient medical practitioner.
Around five or six minutes later, the old Mrs. Henley’s body twitched, and she slowly opened her eyes, followed by a faint cough.
A miracle had unfolded before everyone’s eyes!
Many believed they were seeing things. How could a supposed waste of a son-in-law possess such incredible medical skills? In the city’s top hospital, where doctors were powerless, a freeloading son-in-law had performed a miracle.
It was beyond belief.
No, it was downright eerie.
“Grandma!” Fanny’s sorrow had turned to joy, and she rushed to the bedside, exclaiming with delight.
Sophia’s eyes welled with tears as she whispered, “Grandma!”
“Mom, it’s wonderful. You’ve finally woken up. Do you feel any discomfort anywhere?” Martin and the others quickly surrounded the old Mrs. Henley, offering words of concern.
Bruno, unable to stand steadily, felt a deep sense of defeat overwhelming him. All his efforts had gone to waste.
After removing the silver needles from the old Mrs. Henley’s body, Leo left the operating room. He knew that despite saving her, it wouldn’t change her opinion of him in the slightest. Leo understood that even if he were to offer his heart to the old Mrs. Henley, she would remain unchanged in her impression of him.
The lead surgeon followed Leo out of the operating room and bowed before him, saying, “You’ve brought someone back from the brink of death. Today, I’ve witnessed a miracle. May I ask, esteemed doctor, your name and your medical lineage?”
Leo smiled and replied, “My name is Leo Bloomer, and I don’t dare to claim it’s a miracle. I am indeed a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner. As for my medical lineage, I’m afraid I can’t disclose it.”
“Could you please let me know where you practice medicine? I’d like to visit you in person sometime. Your guidance would be greatly appreciated,” the lead surgeon eagerly inquired.
“You can find me at the Nameless Chinese Medicine Clinic. I practice there occasionally,” Leo responded.
“Thank you. I will definitely come to seek your advice on another day,” the lead surgeon said, showing great delight.
Since the old Mrs. Henley had awakened, the medical staff transferred her from the operating room to the intensive care unit.
“Grandma, how are you feeling now?” Fanny asked with genuine concern.
Although the old Mrs. Henley had woken up, she was still weak. She replied in a hoarse voice, “I feel… tired right now. I had a strange dream just now. In the dream, I saw your grandfather, cough, cough…”
She was interrupted by a coughing fit.
“Grandma it’s Leo…” Sophia began to explain but was cut off by Bruno.
“Grandma just woke up, and her body is still weak. She needs some rest. Let’s leave her alone for now and not disturb her,” Bruno insisted.
Sean quickly chimed in, “Right, let’s let Mom rest. We’ll stay outside.”
“Don’t… don’t leave,” the old Mrs. Henley waved her hand weakly. “Vincent… what happened to Vincent?”
Vincent was the old Mrs. Henley’s dedicated driver, who had been driving for her for over twenty years.
“Mom, Vincent is no longer with us,” Stanley replied softly.
Hearing this, a sad expression appeared on the old Mrs. Henley’s face. She muttered, “How could this happen? The brakes… the brakes should not have failed…”
The mention of “brake failure” left everyone in astonishment.
Bruno’s heart raced, and he nervously said, “Grandma, cars that have been in use for a long time can develop unforeseen issues. Perhaps Vincent neglected the maintenance.”
As Leo walked in from outside, he noticed that Bruno’s expression was far from normal, as if he were trying to conceal something.
Connecting the dots about the sudden accident involving the old Mrs. Henley, Leo realized something he hadn’t expected.
Bruno, of all people, had plotted something so sinister against his own grandmother!
Furthermore, if the old Mrs. Henley didn’t survive, Bruno was likely to succeed her as the head of the Henley family, and potentially, become the chairman of the Henley Group.
Today, Leo truly saw Bruno for who he was.
The old Mrs. Henley, lying on the hospital bed, shook her head slightly and said in a hoarse voice, “I remember clearly. Vincent checked the car last week. The brakes shouldn’t have failed.”
Seeing that the old Mrs. Henley was deeply troubled by this issue, Martin tried to console her, “Mom, let’s investigate this matter after you’ve fully recovered. Your well-being is the most important thing right now.”
“Mom, your health is our top priority. Let’s not worry about other matters for now,” Jessica added, echoing Martin.
As the old Mrs. Henley looked at her many descendants surrounding her, she felt a sense of contentment. Her gaze swept across Leo and then rested on the lead surgeon. She said, “Doctor, thank you for saving me.”
