Louis Jennings’s exclamation made everyone realize that Leo had been telling the truth earlier. They stared at Leo with a bewildered expression, their minds racing to comprehend the situation.
His disciples were especially terrified, thinking that this young man was indeed fearsome.
Leo glanced back at Louis Jennings casually, saying, “Yes, and what? Today, I’m here to make a mess of your Read Clinic!”
Leo placed the medicine bowl on the table and began to prepare the herbs. In just seven or eight minutes, he had concocted a bowl of dark red poison.
He then handed the poisonous concoction to Louis Jennings, smiling, “My poison is also ready. It should taste quite nice. Go ahead and drink it.”
Louis Jennings reached for the poison, determined, and said, “Then let’s drink together. After we drink it, we’ll see who can detoxify!”
Both of them held the other’s prepared poison and gulped it down. Onlookers were nervous, and their hearts raced as they watched this perilous contest.
After consuming the poison, both men placed their bowls on the table. If you looked closely, you would see that there was still a little poison left in Leo’s bowl.
Louis Jennings wiped the corner of his mouth with his hand, smirking, “Leo, you used Bane Ash Grass, Toadskin, and Purple Red for these poisons. Bane Ash Grass attacks the spleen and stomach, Toadskin is bone-toxic, and Purple Red accelerates arterial blood flow. I must admit, you’re ruthless, but unfortunately, this poison is child’s play for me.”
Louis Jennings then went to the medicine cabinet to prepare the antidote, stating the names of the herbs as he worked, “Wild Lily paired with Blue Lotus can neutralize Toadskin. Maple Leaf Dan can counteract Bane Ash Grass poison. As for Purple Red, Cockspur Herb and Clearmind Pill can eliminate it.”
It was evident that Louis Jennings wanted to psychologically pressure Leo openly.
However, Leo appeared to pay no attention to his words. He didn’t go to the medicine cabinet to prepare the antidote but instead sat down casually on a nearby chair and poured himself a cup of tea.
It seemed that he had drunk a beverage earlier, not poison.
Dr. Davy grew anxious and couldn’t help but remind, “Leo, the poison is taking effect. You need to prepare the antidote quickly. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to detoxify.”
Leo was Dr. Davy’s savior, and in his eyes, losing this competition didn’t matter. It was fine even if they lost the clinic, as long as Leo remained safe.
“Dr. Bloomer, you should prepare the antidote now. This is not the time to show off.”
Some of the bystanders were concerned as they saw Leo sitting there so calmly.
The female doctor couldn’t resist a taunt, “I don’t think he can prepare the antidote at all. That’s why he’s acting so arrogantly.”
Louis Jennings turned to Leo and said, “Leo, if you don’t prepare the antidote soon, once the poison takes full effect, every cell in your body will ache. It’s a feeling worse than death. You’ll kneel down and beg me for the antidote.”
Louis Jennings was confident about the poison he had prepared.
Leo looked at him and smiled indifferently, “Listening to you, it sounds really scary. I’m actually looking forward to how it feels when the poison takes effect.”
As the seconds ticked away, Leo, sipping his tea, showed no signs of pain on his face. The female herbalist couldn’t help but whisper, “Master, why hasn’t the poison taken effect? Did you perhaps use too little of it in the poison brew?”
Though Louis Jennings shared the same suspicion about his apprentice’s query, he chose not to acknowledge it.
He couldn’t help but notice that something was off with his own body. Signs of poison’s onset were apparent, and time was running out. He had to prepare the antidote immediately.
After another four or five minutes, Louis Jennings finally prepared the antidote. At this point, his face had turned completely black and red, making him appear frightening.
His breathing became rapid, and his eyes turned bloodshot.
“Leo, my antidote is ready. Once I drink it, the poison will be completely neutralized,” Louis Jennings said with a malevolent look, ready to consume the antidote.
But as he brought the bowl to his lips, Louis Jennings vomited a mouthful of fresh blood, his hands trembling uncontrollably, almost dropping the bowl.
After taking the antidote, Louis Jennings’ poisoning symptoms not only failed to improve but his face grew even more terrifying.
“Eugh! Eugh!” Louis Jennings expelled two mouthfuls of dark red blood, leaving the onlookers shocked. Some instinctively reached for their phones to call for emergency help.
Louis Jennings’ disciples stared dumbfounded, utterly helpless. They couldn’t have dreamed that their revered master would fail to cure the poison concocted by Leo.
Leo took another sip of tea, then stood and addressed Louis Jennings, saying, “How’s my poison working for you? Still not ready to admit defeat?”
“You…” Louis Jennings laboriously wiped away the blood at the corner of his mouth and stared at Leo with widened eyes. “It can’t be, it can’t be like this. I’ve already identified the main ingredients you used, there’s no way I can’t cure it!”
“The ingredients you mentioned earlier can indeed counter the main components of my poison,” Leo agreed, “but you overlooked one thing – my secondary ingredient, icegrass.”
“Icegrass?” Louis Jennings suddenly realized something. “Icegrass neutralizes both cockleweed and clearspirit pills, rendering them ineffective!”
Leo nodded. “You finally get it, but it’s too late now. Admit your defeat.”
Louis Jennings wore an expression of both realization and regret on his dreadful face. Such a simple secondary ingredient like icegrass had led to his downfall. He felt like giving himself a good slap.
With his newfound understanding, Louis Jennings had another revelation. He looked at Leo with incredulity and exclaimed, “Wait a minute, why haven’t you shown any signs of poisoning?!”
It should be noted that Leo had consumed the poison at the same time as him. Under normal circumstances, Leo should have long fallen into a deep unconsciousness after drinking that poison brew. But there wasn’t the slightest sign of poisoning on Leo!
If Louis Jennings hadn’t witnessed Leo drinking the poison brew he’d prepared himself, he would have undoubtedly accused Leo of cheating.
Dr. Davy and the others were equally surprised, unable to comprehend what had happened. After drinking the poison brew, Leo hadn’t only failed to prepare an antidote, he was now sitting calmly, sipping tea. Could it be that tea had the power to neutralize poison?
“In fact, I already neutralized your poison a while ago,” Leo said with a faint smile.
