Master Grant, dressed in a gray robe, raised an eyebrow slightly and said, “That man looks quite young. He managed to defeat Jeff?”
“He possesses some mysterious abilities. Jeff and I suspect he obtained a great opportunity from a secret realm, which explains his prowess,” Janet replied.
Hearing the words “secret realm” and “great opportunity,” a gleam of fanaticism flickered deep in Master Grant’s eyes.
“Master Grant, not only is he highly skilled, but he also uses talismans. I suspect he must have acquired spiritual cultivation techniques from a certain secret realm,” Janet added.
This piqued Master Grant’s interest further, and he turned his gaze towards Leo, his face displaying a hint of excitement. “Are you sure about what you’re saying?”
“Yes, I’ve seen him use incredible talismans multiple times. He has many of them, which he likely crafted himself. As you know, only spiritual cultivators can craft talismans,” Janet confirmed.
Master Grant withdrew his gaze and asked Janet, “Did you deliberately lead that young man here to me?”
“Master Grant, I’m no match for him, so I had to ask for your help to eliminate that thief. Of course, if you could capture him alive, it would be even better. We might extract the secrets of spiritual cultivation from him,” Janet stated frankly.
Master Grant nodded and said, “Years ago, after you and Jeff returned alive from that secret realm and offered me the treasures you obtained, I promised to help you both. I’ve fulfilled the first favor by helping Jeff become the sect leader. Are you sure you want me to fulfill the second favor today?”
Janet affirmed, “Although Jeff and I didn’t have much affection for each other, we were still a couple. I must avenge him for what he suffered.”
“In that case, today, I shall fulfill my promise. My treasures haven’t had a taste of human flesh for a long time, and today, they shall feast well,” Master Grant’s gaze turned malevolent as he squinted at the group on the other side. Then, he shifted his attention to the serene and placid pond.
Janet had a sense of impending danger, as if something terrible lurked in the calm waters ahead.
On the other side, separated by the pond, Leo focused his attention on the elderly man next to Janet.
“Is the guy next to Janet your Master Grant?” Leo asked Jennifer.
Jennifer nodded, saying, “Indeed, that’s him.”
“Mr. Bloomer, should we attack them now?” Roy, gripping his weapon, wore an eager expression.
Leo raised his hand, signaling them not to be impulsive, and prepared to channel his spiritual energy into his eyes to inspect the pond.
Just then, the figures of the two people on the other side flickered. When Leo looked again, their feet were already stepping on the wooden stakes in the pond, swiftly approaching Leo and his group.
Master Grant stepped onto a wooden stake in the middle of the pond, his hands behind his back. He surveyed Leo and the others, then fixed his gaze on Jennifer.
“Jennifer, when did you come out from the back mountain?” Master Grant feigned surprise, then said in a deep voice, “You’ve brought so many people to my residence. Are you planning to challenge me and destroy our sect?”
Upon hearing this, Jennifer’s face turned icy. She hadn’t expected Master Grant, who was highly respected, to speak of her in such a manner.
Her master had been killed by Jeff and Janet, and when she was imprisoned, Master Grant had never shown up. Yet today, he was standing beside Janet. Even a fool could see that something was amiss.
“Master Grant, you should know about what happened to my master years ago. Jeff and Janet were the ones who challenged him and destroyed the sect! Today, I seek revenge for my master, and I kindly request that you do not protect Janet,” Jennifer said, her voice cold.
Master Grant’s face twisted into a mocking expression. “Jennifer, it’s been four years, and you’ve truly grown stronger. You dare ask for someone’s life in front of me?”
Leo had no favorable impression of Master Grant. He spoke directly to Jennifer, saying, “No need to waste words on him; he’s clearly here to help Janet. Let’s deal with both of them together.”
Jennifer nodded slightly, choosing not to speak further. Her master had been poisoned by Jeff and Janet’s cooperation, but Master Grant’s inaction had effectively aided the evildoers.
Leo took a few steps forward, stepping onto one of the wooden stakes, and continued walking. Jennifer followed closely, with Franklin, Curtis, and the others behind her.
Underneath their black cloaks, Janet’s voice echoed menacingly, “If you want to capture me, come closer. I’m waiting for you.”
Master Grant, standing on a wooden stake, looked at Leo and the others as they approached. His face revealed an expression of anticipation.
After covering about five or six meters, Leo suddenly stopped, sensing danger instinctively.
Almost on impulse, Leo looked down at the pond beneath his feet. The pond remained calm, like a mirror, with a few floating leaves occasionally spinning on the surface.
Leo squinted and then channeled his spiritual energy into his eyes, looking beneath the water’s surface.
Soon, Leo discovered something lurking quietly beneath the tranquil pond. His face turned pale with shock.
Master Grant noticed Leo’s expression and first showed surprise, then laughed, “It seems Janet was right; you are indeed not bad. Since you’ve found out, there’s no need to hide.”
“Come out, my darlings, and relish the taste of human flesh,” Master Grant opened his arms and shouted.
The previously calm pond began to produce countless bubbles. These bubbles turned into violent ripples, as if something was about to emerge from the water.
Seeing the dimly lit water gradually taking on a faint blue hue, Leo shouted urgently, “Danger, retreat!”
Everyone else noticed the danger too and quickly stepped back.
Before long, whatever was in the pond surfaced.
They finally got a clear view of the emerging creatures – alligators!
Big ones, and more than one!
Beside Roy’s feet, a terrifyingly large head emerged from the water. The blood-red eyes on the head flickered with horrifying cold light.
Despite being a special forces soldier who had seen his share of terrifying scenes, Roy was still startled by the horrifying alligators in the pond.
These alligators were unusually large, at least twice the size of ordinary ones. Their bluish-purple skin had protruding spikes along their backs, making them look incredibly menacing.
The alligator near Roy’s feet blinked its blood-red eyes and suddenly leaped out of the water, jaws wide open, directly targeting his neck.
Once catching the hu8man, the alligators would execute their death roll technique – a gruesome way to finish their prey.
