The female secretary looked at Rosemary with anxiety and said, “Miss Fanny, Julie… she’s gone crazy!”
“What!?” Rosemary’s face changed, “Take me to see her right away!”
Ignoring Leo’s presence, Rosemary led the way out of the office, with Nick quickly following her.
Upon hearing the secretary’s words, Leo became curious. People don’t just go crazy for no reason, so it seemed like something had gone wrong in Rosemary’s company. Since it was still early for Sophia to get off work, Leo decided to tag along and see what was happening.
Descending to the next floor, they entered the employee work area, a large open-plan office with several workstations where about 20 employees sat together.
At that moment, a woman in professional attire inside the office was yelling loudly, sometimes pulling and tearing at her own clothes, and then touching others inappropriately while mumbling incoherently. Her colleagues were terrified, moving away from her as she acted out.
Seeing this scene, Rosemary’s brows furrowed, and her expression turned grim. This was the second employee to exhibit such bizarre behavior. While Rosemary believed that colds could be contagious, the idea of madness spreading was downright eerie.
Nick was also puzzled and asked, “Rosemary, is this employee’s behavior similar to the last one who went mad?”
Rosemary nodded, “The symptoms are quite similar.”
Seeing Rosemary’s tense expression, Nick tried to reassure her, “Don’t worry, Rosemary, I’m here.”
Nick stepped forward and, with the help of male colleagues, restrained the woman who had gone berserk. Though she was held down, she continued to struggle and scream, threatening those around her.
Nick then instructed the secretary to fetch the medical kit he had with him and hurriedly examined the woman’s pulse. Afterward, he instructed the male employees to temporarily bind her to a chair. He reassured everyone, saying, “Don’t panic, everyone. It’s not a big deal. This lady is suffering from a mental breakdown due to work stress and recent health issues, which has lowered her psychological resilience.”
Rosemary also tried to calm her employees, saying, “Don’t worry, everyone. This is my brother, a closed-door disciple of Dr. Rudolph from Healnature Clinic. He is highly skilled, and he will be able to treat Julie’s mental issue quickly.”
With that, Rosemary went to stand beside Nick and quietly asked him, “Nick, can you treat this sudden madness? It’s quite unusual.”
“Rosemary, it’s a minor issue. You can relax. This condition is known in Chinese medicine as intermittent madness, and it’s a treatable form of mental disturbance,” Nick said confidently. He had encountered similar cases while working with Dr. Rudolph.
The tense atmosphere among the employees gradually eased as they found solace in the hope of a cure. Nobody wanted a potential threat lurking in the office, and given that just a couple of days ago, a male colleague had also suddenly gone mad, and now a female colleague had followed suit, the fear of contagion was palpable. Who could say what was truly happening?
Nick fetched a piece of paper and a pen, quickly scribbling a prescription, which he handed to the secretary. He instructed her, “Take this prescription to Healnature Clinic immediately and get the medication. Also, bring a bottle of Clear Mind Oral Solution and a box of Tranquil Soul Capsules.”
The secretary took the note, acknowledging the instructions, and left the office promptly.
Leo, however, interjected once more, “This condition isn’t as straightforward as it seems. Medication alone might not be the solution.”
Although Leo hadn’t examined the woman personally, he had an inkling that there was more to her condition than a sudden mental breakdown. He even tried using his spiritual vision to detect any ominous energy around her, but there was none. She appeared untainted by malevolent forces.
Upon hearing Leo’s comment, Nick turned to him with an irritated expression and taunted, “Leo, I know you’re skilled in medicine, but you shouldn’t be so arrogant. Do you think everyone apart from you is ignorant? Do you believe you’re the only one who knows medicine?”
Leo tried to clarify, “That’s not what I meant. I’m just advising you to be cautious when making a diagnosis. Even with something like a mental breakdown, there can be several different levels and causes.”
Nick, with a hint of arrogance, responded, “Thank you for your advice, Dr. Bloomer. I’ve already identified her condition. It’s a disturbance of the heart heat, and it can be cured with a proprietary herbal remedy from Healnature Clinic, along with Clear Mind Oral Solution and Tranquil Soul Capsules.”
Deciding not to press the issue further, Leo fell silent. It was their territory, after all, and he didn’t want to overstay his welcome.
Rosemary, on the other hand, was displeased to find Leo still present, especially after his skepticism toward Nick’s diagnosis. Her impression of him had plummeted, and she said coldly, “Mr. Bloomer, as I mentioned earlier, I’d appreciate it if you could leave. There’s no need for you to be involved in our affairs.”
Given that this was a matter related to her company, Rosemary didn’t want outsiders present. She was concerned that if this incident became public, it would have a negative impact on her company’s reputation.
Leo, not wanting to make things more awkward, offered one final piece of advice, “You must have moved into this office space fairly recently. If I’m not mistaken, this place might have a history of deaths.”
His comment elicited laughter from the crowd.
“Is this guy some sort of charlatan? He’s spouting nonsense!”
“He’s making things up and trying to scare us by bringing up deaths. It’s hilarious!”
“This office space was brand new when we moved in. There’s no way someone died here. What a ridiculous thing to say.”
The commercial building had been newly constructed and was delivered for use just a year ago. Rosemary’s company had leased two floors, and she had personally conducted due diligence before signing the lease contract. There had been no previous occupants before her. In fact, her company was the inaugural tenant in the building. Rosemary had been meticulous about every aspect of the interior design and renovation process, so it seemed highly improbable that any deaths had occurred within these premises.
After ridiculing Leo, the employees began to suspect that he might be a spy sent by a competing company to fabricate stories about deaths to frighten them.
Ignoring the ridicule, Leo continued, “Miss Fanny, believe it or not, I must remind you to ensure your employees leave work by 5 o’clock, and avoid having them work late at night. Otherwise, more people might go mad.”
To Rosemary, Leo’s words didn’t sound like a mere warning; they came across more like a curse.
Rosemary’s face turned even more displeased at Leo’s words, and she snapped, “I don’t need your reminders. Please leave immediately.”
The employees in the office also joined in berating Leo.
