Chapter 312: Not Up to the Task

Book:The All-powerful Son-In-Law Published:2024-6-3

Abraham made quite an entrance, with over a dozen men in black suits trailing behind him, exuding the aura of a big shot.
Feeling the awe-struck gazes directed at him, Abraham reveled in it. He didn’t glance around, instead, he strutted right into the midst of the crowd.
As he got closer, he finally saw who was standing in the middle of the crowd.
His originally imposing expression turned sour, as if he had just bitten into a frostbitten eggplant. He started to get anxious. It was an incredible coincidence that he would encounter the young man here who had once made him kneel.
Seeing Abraham approaching, Athena rushed forward and grabbed Abraham’s hand, sweetly calling out, “Godfather!”
At this moment, Athena didn’t care about the onlookers’ judgment. To her, being able to find Abraham as her godfather was her own achievement. Many women would never have the opportunity to be Abraham’s goddaughter, no matter how much they wished for it.
To Athena’s surprise, Abraham immediately shook off her hand and coldly snorted, “Step aside!”
Abraham adjusted his expression, walked up to Leo, and then respectfully bowed to him, addressing him with reverence, “Mr. Bloomer!”
Mr. Bloomer? What kind of drama was this?
To show such respect to a mere son-in-law of the Henley family, even though he was a newcomer, was unbelievable from Abraham.
Leo’s expression remained unchanged as he glanced at Abraham. “I thought you were wondering who her godfather was. Turns out it’s you. We meet again.”
Abraham’s heart skipped a beat. He turned and gave Athena a cold look before shouting, “Come here!”
Athena was dumbfounded when she saw Abraham bowing to Leo. Something was terribly off about Abraham today.
Hearing his command, Athena trembled and walked to Abraham’s side, her voice shaking as she said, “Godfather, it’s this brat who bullied me!”
*Smack!*
Another sound of a slap echoed, and this time, it was Abraham who delivered it to Athena’s face.
Athena’s already swollen cheek instantly shattered under the force of the slap.
“Athena, apologize to Mr. Bloomer!” Abraham ordered.
Athena covered her cheek, crying out, “Godfather, you-you actually hit me for a worthless guy like him…”
Fearful that Athena might say something disrespectful and anger Leo, Abraham slapped her again, knocking her to the ground.
“You wretch, shut your mouth!” Abraham roared.
When he raised his head, his expression turned respectful again as he addressed Leo, “Mr. Bloomer, I apologize for this. I don’t know this wretched woman; I’ll take care of this for you.”
Saying this, Abraham gestured to his men and commanded, “You guys, take this crazy woman away from here. Don’t let Mr. Bloomer see her!”
Though his henchmen didn’t understand why Abraham was so respectful to a young man, they knew better than to defy their boss’s orders. They promptly approached and dragged Athena away from the scene.
Gilbert, who had been kneeling on the ground all this time, raised his head and looked at Leo with a pitiful expression. He weakly asked, “Mr. Bloomer, can I go now?”
“Get lost!” Leo waved his hand impatiently.
At this point, the bystanders who had been watching the whole ordeal were completely stunned. They couldn’t comprehend how a second-rate family’s son-in-law from the Henley family could have orchestrated all this.
What was the real identity of this man, widely known as the Henley family’s freeloading son-in-law? No one would believe it unless they saw it with their own eyes.
How did he manage to pull all of this off?
“Abraham, next time you choose a goddaughter, be more discerning, or you’ll end up causing trouble for yourself. This is where it ends,” Leo remarked before giving Abraham a glance. With that, he walked confidently towards the parking lot.
The onlookers quickly made way for Leo, not wanting to incur his wrath.
Watching Leo gradually walk away, Abraham let out a long sigh of relief, and tiny beads of sweat formed on his forehead. He was relieved that Leo hadn’t dug deeper into Athena’s affairs; otherwise, he would have been in big trouble.
After coming down from Cloud Dream Mountain, Leo went to the clinic and saw patients until 5 PM. He then drove to pick up Sophia after work.
At 5:40 PM, Leo was ready to drive back home. However, Sophia sent him a location and said, “Let’s go eat at this place.”
“Aren’t we going home for dinner tonight?” Leo was a bit puzzled. He had known Sophia for four years, and she rarely ate out unless for business.
“Leo, your memory seems to be failing you. Did you forget?” Sophia asked.
“Forget what?” Leo inquired.
“The first batch of Herbal Magic Cosmetics Company’s products has been delivered. We’re having dinner with the factory manager, Alvin Simpson.”
Leo suddenly remembered that Sophia had mentioned this to him. He hadn’t informed Alvin in advance, and if anything went wrong, it could be problematic.
Leo considered for a moment, turned off the engine, and unbuckled his seatbelt.
“What are you doing?” Sophia asked in confusion.
“I need to use the restroom urgently. I can’t hold it in any longer. Wait for me in the car; I’ll be right back.” Leo feigned urgency, opened the car door, and rushed towards the elevator.
Hiding in the elevator area, Leo pulled out his phone and realized that Alvin had called him several times.
During the auction, Leo had set his phone to silent mode, and with the phone’s vibration feature malfunctioning, he had missed Alvin’s calls.
Leo called Alvin back and briefly explained the instructions for the dinner.
Seven or eight minutes later, Leo finally emerged from the elevator and returned to the car.
At the restaurant, Alvin’s performance was impeccable. He followed Leo’s instructions to the letter, not giving Sophia any reason to suspect anything.
After dinner, Leo drove Sophia back home and then found an excuse to leave again.
Bob had sent a message, saying that he had completed the investigation on Bevis.
In a high-end club.
Aside from Leo, Bob, and Chasel were also present.
Taking a sip of beer, Chasel looked at Leo and said, “Mr. Bloomer, I conducted a thorough investigation on Bevis as per your request. His background is quite simple.”
“Go on,” Leo replied, taking a sip of his beer.
“Bevis is an orphan, and his true identity is a mercenary. He has two main interests: women and gambling.”
“He arrived in Langstel a little over a month ago. During this time, he has spent half of it in Dreamland and the other half at the casino.”
