She could only pray silently now that the Leo mentioned by Lynn was the same Leo she had met that day. The phone call was quickly answered, and Dr. Mond spoke urgently, “Leo, did you save a woman in a car accident?”
“Yes, it was me.”
Dr. Mond let out a sigh of relief. “Can you come to the hospital? The patient’s condition is critical.”
“Why? My acupuncture should have sustained her until the surgery.”
“One of the nurses at the hospital removed one of the silver needles,” Dr. Mond explained, fearing that Leo might not come.
“Never touch the needles on the patient again. I’m on my way.”
Dr. Mond finally felt relieved. With Leo’s help, things would be much easier.
“Dr. Mond, who are you calling?” Darren asked.
“The person who performed acupuncture at the scene of the accident for Miss Hansom.”
On the other side of the Purple Cloud Tea House, Leo had already left Renee’s car, driven his Audi from the parking lot, and rushed to the hospital.
In less than half an hour, Leo entered the ICU.
In the ICU at this moment, besides Dr. Mond and her two assistants, there were Darren and Windy, along with an elderly man wearing a blue robe.
The old man sat by the bedside, checking Nana’s pulse.
This elderly man was Barlow Morse, a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner Darren had brought in through his connections. Although Dr. Mond had assured him that Nana would be fine once Leo arrived, Darren was now somewhat skeptical due to Lynn’s actions. To be safe, he had invited Dr. Morse.
Seeing Leo enter, Dr. Mond quickly introduced, “Mr. Hansom, Mrs. Hansom, this is the person who performed acupuncture on Miss Hansom at the scene of the accident. His name is Leo Bloomer.”
Darren merely glanced at Leo, nodded, and then turned his gaze back to the bed. Windy didn’t even look at Leo.
Dr. Mond felt a bit awkward and whispered to Leo, “Dr. Bloomer, I’m sorry about this, but that’s Dr. Morse, a senior Chinese medicine practitioner brought in by Darren.”
Leo nodded but didn’t say anything. He gestured to Dr. Mond to continue.
Three minutes later, Dr. Morse finished checking Nana’s pulse and removed his fingers. His face was solemn.
“Dr. Morse, how is my daughter? Can you save her?” Darren asked eagerly.
“It’s quite troublesome,” Dr. Morse shook his head, “Whoever inserted these eight silver needles into her acted recklessly.”
Darren was about to say it was Leo who inserted them, but he thought better of it. At this moment, the most important thing was to save his daughter. So, he asked Dr. Morse, “Dr. Morse, can you save my daughter?”
Dr. Morse stroked his chin thoughtfully and said, “Of course, I can. I didn’t say I couldn’t. I just said it would be complicated to treat her. To save your daughter’s life, I must use the ‘Nine Lifesaving Needles’ technique.”
“Please proceed, Dr. Morse,” Windy urged anxiously.
Dr. Morse looked at Windy and added, “Using the ‘Nine Lifesaving Needles’ will consume three years of my life essence.”
Hearing this, Leo couldn’t help but sneer. This old man had a way of manipulating people.
Darren stepped forward and said earnestly, “Dr. Morse, I request that you save my daughter’s life. I’m willing to compensate you for the years you lose with money.”
He handed over a check, saying, “Fifty million dollars. Dr. Morse, please help us. And if you ever encounter any difficulties in the future, no matter how challenging, our family will assist you without question.”
Seeing the check and hearing Darren’s promise, Dr. Morse’s face finally showed a satisfied expression. He took out a small medicine box he carried with him and said, “Since Mr. Hansom is so sincere, it would be impolite for me not to help. Very well, I will perform the ‘Nine Lifesaving Needles’ for your daughter.”
Dr. Morse opened the medicine box and took out a silver needle. “Once I’ve completed the ‘Nine Lifesaving Needles,’ within ten minutes at most, Miss Hansom will be out of danger and wake up.”
Hearing this, Darren and Windy expressed their heartfelt gratitude.
Dr. Morse began inserting the needles, starting with the Taiyang point, then the Yongquan point, Renzhong point, and Baihui point…
As he saw Dr. Morse inserting one needle after another, Leo’s brow furrowed. Fortunately, Dr. Morse hadn’t removed the eight silver needles already in Nana’s body; otherwise, there could have been serious complications.
After Dr. Morse had inserted eight needles of the “Nine Lifesaving Needles,” Nana’s pallid face suddenly became rosy, her faint breath gained strength, and her fingers on her right hand started moving.
Looking at the monitor, the downward trend of the vital signs began to reverse, surging back into the normal range.
The alarm stopped, and Nana’s vital signs rapidly improved.
Even Dr. Mond was stunned by this scene, acknowledging Dr. Morse as an exceptional physician.
Darren and Windy were overjoyed, holding hands, waiting for their daughter to wake up.
Dr. Morse picked up the ninth needle, ready to insert it into a major acupuncture point on Nana’s body.
“Stop!” A loud shout echoed in the room. “If you insert that needle, you’ll be committing murder!”
Two loud voices caused Dr. Morse to startle, and he accidentally pricked himself with the silver needle, causing him to wince in pain.
Confused, he turned to Leo, not understanding why this young man had suddenly become agitated.
“Those are not the ‘Nine Lifesaving Needles,’ but the ‘Nine Lifes-Returning Needles!'” Leo shouted again.
Dr. Morse’s face showed a mix of shock and disbelief. How could this young man discern the acupuncture technique he had used? After all, the ‘Nine Lifes-Returning Needles’ had been lost in traditional Chinese medicine, and he had learned them by chance from an ancient medical text in his family’s ancestral mansion.
Darren, with a hint of annoyance, glanced at Leo. In his eyes, even though Leo was a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, he was still too young and couldn’t compare to the experienced Dr. Morse.
People of the same profession could be rivals, and Darren was convinced that Leo didn’t want Dr. Morse to save Nana so that he could secure the fifty million dollars.
That must be it!
“Who are you?” Dr. Morse asked Leo with a puzzled expression.
Darren, with an embarrassed expression, explained, “Dr. Morse, this young man was invited by Dr. Mond. He’s a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner.”
Upon hearing this, Dr. Morse’s expression darkened. “Mr. Hansom, what do you mean? You invited me to treat Miss Hansom, and now you’ve brought in someone else, especially this inexperienced young man!”
Dr. Morse, infuriated, stood up abruptly. “Your actions show a lack of trust in me and my medical skills! He has severely disrupted my acupuncture. If you don’t get rid of him, then find another doctor instead of me. I won’t treat your daughter anymore!” He declared, turning to leave the room.
Dr. Mond hurriedly blocked his path and explained, “Dr. Morse, when Miss Hansom had her accident, Leo’s acupuncture saved her life. He was invited by me. Please forgive the misunderstanding.”
