Leo quickly stopped the massage and helped Renee put her high-heeled shoe back on. “Alright, no more walking today. You’ll be back to normal by tomorrow. I’ll drive.”
Renee sat up and touched her ankle. The swelling had disappeared, and the slight discomfort was gone too.
When Leo and Renee returned to the Purple Cloud Tea House, chaos had erupted at the hospital.
Just as they were about to begin surgery, Nana’s stable vital signs suddenly had severe fluctuations, and her previously acceptable health indicators had fallen into a dangerous zone.
Inside the ICU, the monitoring devices blared alarms continuously.
“What’s going on? It shouldn’t be like this!” Dr. Mond’s face turned grave, and she looked visibly troubled.
“This is too abnormal. She was fine just a moment ago. How could this happen?”
“How could stable vital signs experience such a rapid decline? Could it be that the effect of acupuncture has worn off?”
“If this continues, the patient might…”
Dr. Mond’s assistant was sweating profusely.
Dr. Mond stared intently at the screen displaying various data, then firmly shook her head. “No, it’s too risky to perform surgery in this condition. We must stabilize the patient’s vital signs first.”
Dr. Mond’s gaze shifted to Nana in the hospital bed. Her previously serene expression was now filled with pain, and her body occasionally twitched.
Dr. Mond’s attention was drawn to the silver needles on Nana. One, two, three…
Wait!
There were originally nine silver needles, but now there were only eight!
“How did one of the silver needles go missing? Who touched Nana’s body?” Dr. Mond’s expression turned icy.
Her two assistants looked bewildered.
“No one has entered the room except Mr. And Mrs. Hansom. Could it be that the needle wasn’t inserted properly and fell out when the patient moved?”
Dr. Mond crouched down and carefully searched. She indeed found one of the silver needles on the floor.
It appeared that Nana’s drastic change in vital signs was due to the loss of the silver needle.
With the needle in hand, Dr. Mond contemplated for a moment and said, “Acupuncture should neither have too few nor too many needles. Now that one needle is missing, causing the condition to worsen, we need Lynn to reinsert the needle.”
With her decision made, Dr. Mond called out, “Lynn, come in here. One of the silver needles has fallen, and we need you to reinsert it to stabilize the patient.”
Lynn knew she couldn’t avoid this any longer and reluctantly walked in.
At this moment, her face was pale, and her hands and feet trembled uncontrollably. She looked at Nana in the bed and regretted.
The silver needles were inserted deeply into the acupoints, and even if the patient moved, they wouldn’t fall out. The one that had fallen on the ground was removed by Lynn herself.
This was because Lynn remembered Leo shouting not to remove the silver needles when they left the scene of the accident. She thought Leo was intentionally being mysterious and didn’t believe it. So, she secretly removed one of the needles.
Lynn turned away, unable to meet Dr. Mond’s eyes. She stammered, “Dr. Mond, I… I can’t handle this situation…”
“Lynn, please stop joking around. Get to work!” Dr. Mond was growing impatient. In this critical situation, there was no room for further pretense.
“If you don’t act now, and something happens to Nana, can you bear Mr. Hansom’s wrath?” Dr. Mond was forced to bring Darren into the conversation.
With a look of despair, Lynn stammered, “Dr. Mond, I really…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Darren and Windy burst into the room, their voices filled with anxiety. “Dr. Mond, we heard the alarms. Is something wrong with our daughter?”
Windy, seeing the abnormalities in her daughter’s condition, grabbed Dr. Mond’s hand, pleading, “Dr. Mond, please save my daughter. I beg you!”
Dr. Mond tried to reassure her, saying, “With Lynn here, Miss Hansom will be fine.”
“My daughter’s face has turned pale, and her body is trembling. How can she be fine? Don’t just stand there; save her!” Panicked, Windy screamed.
Dr. Mond instructed Lynn, “Lynn, now that Mr. Hansom and the others are here, you must reinsert the needle to stabilize Miss Hansom’s condition.”
Dr. Mond then turned to Darren and said, “Mr. Hansom, rest assured. Since Lynn accepted your ten million dollars, she has the confidence to ensure Miss Hansom’s safety.”
Darren quickly shifted his pleading gaze to Lynn. “Miss Anderson, no, Dr. Anderson, please, help my daughter. If you can heal her, I’ll give you another ten million dollars.”
All eyes in the room were now focused on Lynn, especially the two assistants of Dr. Mond, whose looks were filled with envy.
One more intervention and she would receive ten million dollars again, making it a total of twenty million dollars. For doctors on a fixed salary like them, this was an astronomical sum.
Under the temptation of money, Lynn reluctantly agreed, took the silver needle, and took a couple of steps closer to Nana. But her right hand trembled uncontrollably.
The current situation was truly a double-edged sword for Lynn. If she inserted the needle correctly, she would receive two million dollars. If she inserted it incorrectly, it would be the end of her.
However, for Lynn, the probability of inserting the needle correctly was approaching zero. Besides knowing where the temple was, she had no knowledge of the other acupuncture points.
Seeing Lynn hesitating and trembling, Windy couldn’t help but urge, “Miss Anderson, what are you doing? Insert the needle quickly!”
Finally, Lynn couldn’t hold on any longer. She collapsed to the floor, crying out, “Mr. Hansom, Mrs. Hansom, Dr. Mond, I’m so sorry!”
Lynn’s words left everyone in the room stunned.
What was going on?
“Miss Hansom… Miss Hansom wasn’t treated by me with acupuncture when she had the accident. I don’t know acupuncture at all. She was saved by Leo Bloomer…”
Lynn cried openly.
“Damn it!” Darren cursed and rushed forward, slapping Lynn across the face. If it weren’t for Dr. Mond and her assistants restraining him, Lynn might have been beaten to death.
Lynn managed to crawl out of the room.
Windy knelt down in front of Dr. Mond, pleading, “Dr. Mond, please, save my daughter!”
Dr. Mond reached out to help Windy and took out her phone to call Leo’s number.
