At this point, Madame Godwin had no other choice but to put it all on the line. She closed her eyes, determined not to look at Leo’s mischievously grinning face.
Once her white T-shirt was removed, Leo’s gaze wandered, seemingly captivated by Madame Godwin’s unexpectedly stunning figure.
Madame Godwin had concealed her remarkable body beneath her police uniform quite well.
After a while of not sensing Leo’s next move, Madame Godwin opened her eyes and was met with Leo’s astonished expression, like a deer caught in headlights.
“Have you seen enough?”
Madame Godwin’s indignant exclamation snapped Leo back to reality. He awkwardly chuckled and replied, “Alright, alright, I’m going to use some needles now, and it might sting a bit.”
Leo took out a silver needle case from his pocket and inserted silver needles into several acupuncture points surrounding Madame Godwin’s wound. He then placed his left hand gently over her wound and cautioned, “I’m going to remove the bullet now; it might hurt a bit. Be strong.”
Finishing his words, Leo expertly controlled the needles, allowing the bullet to travel through her flesh and into his hand.
“Ah!”
The intense pain forced Madame Godwin to let out a cry.
With a swift movement of his right hand at the end of the silver needle, Leo’s spiritual power flowed into the wound. The bleeding soon stopped, replaced by a warm, comforting sensation that washed over Madame Godwin.
The shift from excruciating pain to soothing comfort created a peculiar emotional rollercoaster for Madame Godwin. She opened her eyes, gazing at Leo without blinking, a unique affection simmering in the depths of her eyes.
Leo held up the bullet he had just extracted and said, “The bullet is out. Thankfully, your bulletproof vest and that amulet helped. The bullet didn’t penetrate too deep; otherwise, it could have been much worse.”
As Madame Godwin looked at the bullet in Leo’s hand, a hint of embarrassment crossed her face. She had suspected Leo of having ulterior motives earlier, but now it was clear he had saved her life.
“Lie still and don’t move. I’ll go get some medical gauze,” Leo said as he got up and left the room.
Watching Leo’s departure, Madame Godwin’s gaze became somewhat dreamy.
Outside, Leo found a small clinic in the village and bought some medical gauze. He searched the village for clothing but returned empty-handed.
Back in the room, Leo used the gauze to dress Madame Godwin’s wound and removed the silver needles from her body.
“Alright, treatment is complete. Your wound will heal quickly. When we get back, I’ll prescribe some medicine for you to take orally and apply externally. That way, your wound won’t leave any scars,” Leo assured her.
Madame Godwin’s expression turned wary as Leo started to undress himself. She questioned, “What are you doing?”
Leo didn’t respond to her words but helped her sit up and then draped his coat over her shoulders.
He then lifted her up by the waist and said, “Madame Godwin, it’s time to go home.”
“Home? But my team is still up on the mountain, fighting…” Madame Godwin was still thinking about the situation up on the hill.
“I can’t do anything about that. I can only save you,” Leo replied.
Leo paid a hundred dollars to the old man at the motel’s front desk and then carried Madame Godwin to the parking area.
Once inside the car, Madame Godwin turned to Leo with a pleading tone in her voice. “Leo, as a police officer, I can’t leave right now. Can you please take me back up the mountain to find Lesley and the others?”
“Lesley?” Leo questioned.
“He’s one of my team members,” Madame Godwin described Lesley’s appearance to Leo.
“Are you sure you want to go back?” Leo asked with seriousness.
Madame Godwin nodded firmly.
“Alright,” Leo fastened his seatbelt and started driving back the way they had come, heading towards the mountain.
On the way back, Madame Godwin asked Leo, “Why did you save me?”
Leo glanced at her and replied, “It’s simple, because you’ve helped me before.”
Madame Godwin inquired further, “How did you end up there?”
“Camp with friends,” Leo casually offered an explanation.
“Camping? What about your friends?” Madame Godwin’s expression turned skeptical.
“They were camping, too. I had them leave first when I realized you police were closing in on the robbers,” Leo explained.
Madame Godwin stopped asking more questions and looked ahead, lost in thought.
Upon reaching the mountain, Leo helped Madame Godwin down from the car and noticed a large number of police officers, police cars, and ambulances not far away.
The police had successfully apprehended both Master Moulton’s and Jonathan Mac’s gangs. They were currently escorting the surviving gang members down the mountain.
To avoid any complications, Leo sat Madame Godwin down on the side and quickly left the area.
As she watched Leo’s departing figure, Madame Godwin felt a hint of reluctance.
“Madame!” A shout brought Madame Godwin back from her reverie.
She turned to see Lesley, who was leading the group.
“Are the criminals all handled properly? What’s the situation?” Madame Godwin asked with concern.
“They’ve all been apprehended, but…” Lesley’s face showed sadness. “We lost four detectives and two SWAT officers.”
Madame Godwin’s expression darkened. “What about Victor?”
“He’s behind me. I’ll inform him that you’re here,” Lesley said, promptly contacting Victor through their police communication equipment.
…
Leo returned home at 1 a. m.
He gently turned the doorknob and entered the bedroom. To his surprise, the lights were still on, and Sophia was sitting at the bedside, idly flipping through a book.
“Why are you still awake?” Leo felt a pang of guilt, knowing that Sophia had been waiting for him.
“Insomnia! Why did you come back so late?” Sophia’s tone carried a hint of complaint.
Leo smiled apologetically. “I encountered a patient with a serious condition, so the treatment took longer than expected.”
“Hurry up, wash up, and go to bed. Tomorrow is the family day, and we have to go to Huntstone City.” Sophia yawned, put the book on the bedside table, and burrowed under the covers.
The next morning, after a quick breakfast, Leo drove with Sophia, Jessica, and Martin to Huntstone City.
Jessica had been holding a grudge against Leo for the car accident, so she hadn’t been in good spirits during the ride. She advised him not to talk when they reached the Henley family estate in Huntstone City, just like he used to be, as if he were a mute.
Leo offered a simple “Alright” in response to Jessica’s instructions.
When they entered the Henley family estate, most of the Henley family members were already present.
Bruno had been discharged from the hospital a few days earlier, and he was attending the family day event as well. When he saw Leo and the others enter, a cold glint appeared in his eyes.
Bruno proactively approached Sophia and said with a mocking tone, “Sophia, I heard that the first batch of cosmetics from Herbal Magic Cosmetics Company has already been delivered. Such a significant matter, why didn’t you inform Grandma?”
Sophia gave him a cold look and replied, “I’ll naturally inform Grandmother today.”
“It seems you still don’t respect Grandmother enough. She is the Chairman of the Henley Group, so any major event should be reported to her immediately. Don’t tell me you’re unaware of this rule?” Bruno deliberately taunted.
