Chapter 278: Troublesome

Book:The All-powerful Son-In-Law Published:2024-6-3

Just a freeloading loser, nothing to be afraid of. Leo entered the lounge with a cold expression, closing the door behind him.
“Leo, now that you’ve seen everything, let me be straightforward. I am the William family’s eldest son. The power, money, and status I possess are things you’ll never attain in your lifetime. Now, I’ll give you ten million dollars to help me guard the door and leave. I promise you, if the Henley family ever kicks you out, you can come work for my William Group. Your monthly salary…”
“Cut the crap!” Leo’s body swayed, and he instantly appeared in front of Frank.
Then, a soul-piercing scream echoed in the lounge.
Frank’s hands and feet remained intact, but there was a certain part of him that would probably never respond again.
In extreme pain and fear, Frank passed out.
After dealing with Frank, Leo knelt down next to the sofa and asked with concern, “Sophia, how are you?”
Sophia, with an unexpected burst of strength, wrapped her arms around Leo’s neck and began to demand something from him passionately.
“Quick, help me…” Sophia’s voice was seductive.
Feeling Sophia’s warmth in his hands and seeing her unusual reactions, Leo immediately understood what Frank had given her.
He gently tapped a point on the back of Sophia’s neck, and she instantly fainted.
Laying her flat on the sofa, Leo retrieved a small silver needle box he carried with him. He took out a silver needle and proceeded to acupuncture points on Sophia’s body.
After needling was complete, Leo lightly brushed the tail of each needle with his finger.
As the needle tips trembled, tiny white lights appeared. At the same time, a faint green mist emanated from Sophia’s lower abdomen.
Once the pale green mist had completely dissipated, Sophia’s body temperature returned to normal.
After removing the silver needles and putting them away, Leo gently lifted Sophia’s head with his right index finger lightly touching her forehead.
Sophia slowly opened her eyes. At first, all she saw was white, but then Leo’s face came into focus.
Sophia gripped Leo’s neck tightly with her hands and began sobbing in fear.
Leo comforted her, stroking her back gently. “Sophia, don’t cry. I’m here, everything’s fine.”
It took quite a while for Sophia to return to her normal state in Leo’s arms.
What happened in the lounge today had frightened her immensely.
After standing up from the sofa, Sophia couldn’t resist giving Frank a couple of kicks while he lay on the ground like a dead dog.
As they were leaving the lounge, Sophia was still concerned that Leo might have caused a fatality and couldn’t help asking, “Leo, Frank isn’t dead, right?”
“Don’t worry, he’s not dead. He dared to do that to you. How could I let him off so easily? I want him to suffer!” Leo replied.
Sophia clung to Leo’s arm, resting her head on his shoulder.
In Sophia’s worldview, she had always considered herself an independent modern woman who didn’t need to rely on anyone. But at this moment, she realized how wrong she was.
The first person who came to her mind when she collapsed after drinking the wine Frank offered was Leo.
After finding Martin at the venue, the three of them left with the Imperial Green Jadeite they had won. As for what had happened to Sophia earlier, they kept it from Martin to avoid worrying him.
Back home, Jessica sat on the couch scrolling through her phone, with a repetitive and uninteresting commercial playing on TV.
Upon seeing the three of them return, Jessica gave Leo a cold glance but suppressed her anger. She turned to Sophia and said, “Darling, the family gathering is the day after tomorrow. Get ready; your dad and I will go with you.”
“What about Leo?” Sophia asked in return.
In previous family gatherings, Leo always had to attend, not because Jessica asked him to, but because Teresa insisted.
As for why Old Mrs. Henley personally requested Leo’s presence, Sophia suspected it was instigated by Bruno. After all, Leo was their favorite subject of jokes and a tension breaker in their eyes; it would be a shame if he didn’t go.
“For freeloaders who live off us but then betray us, they have no right to attend the Henley family’s family gathering,” Jessica said coldly, not sparing Leo a glance.
Sophia reminded her, “Mom, at the family gathering, everyone except the Henley family’s younger generation at school has to attend! Grandma even specifically mentioned that Leo should come. If Leo doesn’t go this year, Grandma will be upset.”
Although Sophia brought up Teresa, Jessica didn’t want to back down. Looking at Sophia, she calmly replied, “Leo is not willing to go to this year’s Family Day because he can’t stand the humiliation, which has nothing to do with me.”
Undoubtedly, Jessica’s level of shirking responsibility is really high, Leo is right in front of her, and she can still say it.
After the incident with Frank, Sophia was already in a bad mood and said angrily, “Mom, you can’t do that. If Grandma gets the wrong idea because Leo doesn’t go, Leo will be blamed!”
“What do I care if Leo gets blamed or not? The matter is decided anyway. The day after tomorrow, if your grandmother asks about Leo, I will explain to her.” Jessica came on as the head of the family.
Sophia could already predict what bad things her mother would say about Leo in front of her grandmother on that day, and said in a firm tone, “Mom, this family day, Leo must go. If he doesn’t go, neither will I!”
Martin saw the atmosphere turn hostile again. “Jessica, please let Leo go with you, or the others will attack us.”
Jessica directly pretended not to hear Martin’s words. In her opinion, Leo could not be spared so easily for the accident. If she did not stand up to Leo this time, how could she discipline this son-in-law in the future?
“Sophia, I’m your mother. I can’t believe you’d say such things to me for Leo,” Jessica said, feigning a heartbroken expression.
Sophia was resolute, “Anyway, Leo must go. If he doesn’t, I won’t go either. You can explain it to Grandma yourself when the time comes!”
Knowing her daughter’s stubbornness well, Jessica shifted her focus to Leo and said coldly, “Leo, if Sophia doesn’t go to the family gathering this time, and anything happens as a result, you’re well aware of the consequences. You’re the one burdening her.”
Leo smirked inwardly; his mother-in-law’s was really good at saying harsh words.
