Chapter 219: Borrowed the Money

Keith and Monica nodded in agreement. At this point, getting the money was their top priority. They didn’t care much about the trouble that Leo might face from those guys or the Henley family.
“We should find a hotel to stay for now, and I’ll call Jessica,” Keith decided, following his son’s suggestion.
On the way back, Leo and Sophia took Leo’s Mercedes, while Martin and Jessica used their Honda.
Leo couldn’t help but wonder about Keith’s awful family.
“I heard your aunt mention borrowing money earlier. What’s that all about?” He inquired as they drove.
Sophia pouted, recounting the incident at the dinner table when Keith had asked to borrow $300, 000.
“My mom is something else. Borrowing $300, 000, it’s like throwing money into a black hole. We’re never getting it back,” Sophia said, her face filled with annoyance.
Leo could guess that Jessica would lend the money more for her own vanity. He knew that this money was most likely gone for good.
Back home, as they were about to go to sleep, Sophia handed Leo a bank card and said, “Take this card and withdraw $300, 000 from the bank tomorrow.”
Leo was taken aback. “You want to lend the money to your aunt and uncle?”
Sophia nodded. “I already talked to my mom. Her retirement fund can’t be touched for now, so I’ll cover it.”
Leo took the bank card. “What’s the PIN?”
“Your birthday,” Sophia replied before turning off the lights.
In the darkness, Leo’s expression held a mix of surprise and gratitude. In the four years with the Henley family, he had never celebrated his birthday. He couldn’t believe Sophia remembered his birthdate.
Lying on his makeshift bed, Leo stared at the ceiling, contemplating. “Sophia, I’d like to request a bed.”
“Sure,” Sophia replied.
“Really?” Leo’s eyes lit up.
“Really, you can have my bed, and I’ll sleep on your cot,” Sophia said playfully.
Leo’s expression turned bitter. “Can’t we just sleep together?”
“Not at the moment.”
“When can we?”
“Depends on your behavior.”
“Congratulations, you’ve successfully bored me to death.”
The next day, after dropping Sophia off at work, Leo headed to a Fortune Bank near the Golden Leaf Shopping Plaza. Thanks to Manager Newman, he was a VIP customer and didn’t need an appointment to withdraw $300, 000.
In the VIP section, Leo successfully withdrew the money. He also had the bank employee check his account balance, and it turned out that Sophia had deposited $2 million in that account. Seeing his birthday as the PIN made Leo wonder if this money was saved for him by Sophia.
With $300, 000 in cash, Leo had to use a backpack to carry it. As he left the bank and opened the car door, his phone rang. It was Sophia, telling him that her family had arrived early and was impatient to get the money.
Leo assured her that he had the money and would be home soon.
When he arrived home, Monica eagerly took the backpack from him. Her eyes glittered with excitement as she unzipped it to reveal the bundles of cash inside. She thought of this money like winning a lottery, and she had no intention of repaying it.
Leo zipped up the backpack, and Monica suppressed her excitement, then turned to Leo with an authoritative tone as if lecturing a junior, “Leo, do you know how long we’ve been waiting for you here? You’re too slow.”
Leo generally didn’t bother with women who occasionally had a few screws loose in their heads. If it weren’t for Sophia’s sake, he would have already put this eccentric family in their place.
Monica held the backpack with both hands, signaling Keith with her eyes. He understood and stood up, addressing Jessica, “Jessica, we have urgent matters to attend to, so we won’t linger here.”
Seeing Keith’s family about to leave, Martin, who was sitting on the side, immediately turned sour. These people were really too much. They borrowed thirty thousand dollars without even writing an IOU, and they didn’t even say thank you when leaving. They weren’t here to borrow money; they were here to demand it. There was no hope of ever seeing that money back.
Jessica wasn’t feeling good about this either. After all, they had lent Sophia’s money. She glanced at Leo, instructing him, “Leo, escort your uncle’s family.”
Jessica really didn’t want to see her brother’s family right now.
Leo nodded in response.
He planned to give them a big surprise.
With the backpack on her back, Monica walked ahead, with Leo following closely behind. The four of them walked out of the villa’s front gate together.
Outside, Barry chuckled, “Dear Mom, seeing you so tired, let me carry the money for you.”
Hearing this, Monica quickly wrapped her hands around the backpack behind her, “No need for you to carry it. I can handle this little money, and all you do in the car is play with your phone. What if you accidentally lose the money?”
Barry walked to Monica’s side, grinning, “I was in the bathroom just now, and I didn’t see the money. I’ve never seen so much money in my life. Show it to me.”
Monica shifted the backpack to her front and carefully unzipped it.
Keith also hurried over to check it.
Seeing the thief-like expressions on their faces, Leo smiled slyly.
Barry happened to catch Leo’s smile and warned, “Leo, what are you smiling about? Although you married into the wealthy Henley family, you probably haven’t seen three hundred thousand dollars before. Let me tell you, don’t get any funny ideas.”
Leo maintained a serious expression as he looked at Barry and replied, “I suggest you ask your mom who take the back here.”
Barry turned to his mother, “Mom…”
“Enough already. Why are you wasting time talking to a useless son-in-law like him? Leo, hurry up and drive. We’ll wait for you here.”
With the money in hand, Monica suddenly felt more confident, and she spoke to Leo with an air of authority. Leo played along, assuming a submissive demeanor, with a trace of a cold smile on his lips, as he walked towards the car.
Once in the driver’s seat, Leo pulled out his phone and dialed Scar’s number.
