Chapter 197: Something in the Car

Director Victor and Lyndon Adelaide were nearly scared out of their wits. Today’s situation, brought to light in front of Director-General Lynd, was no small matter. It might result in more than just losing their positions – they could end up spending time behind bars.
Leo had left the health bureau alongside Director-General Lynd.
As for the fates of Director Victor and Lyndon Adelaide, Leo didn’t inquire further. With Director-General Lynd involved, their outcomes were likely to be quite grim.
Director-General Lynd dropped Leo back at the clinic, which had resumed its renovations. Dr. Davy and Jennifer were relieved to see Leo return unharmed.
In the backyard pavilion, Jennifer served tea to Leo and Director-General Lynd before leaving them. She knew they needed to have a conversation.
After ending a phone call, Director-General Lynd told Leo, “Mr. Bloomer, the situation has been investigated. Director Victor was swayed by Horse Pharmaceutical’s bribes, which led him to collaborate with Lyndon Adelaide from the Enforcement Supervision Department against you.”
Leo nodded in understanding, “I had already guessed out.”
“Really? Do you have a conflict with Horse Pharmaceutical?” Director-General Lynd was puzzled. How could a medical clinic have a feud with a pharmaceutical company?
Leo recounted the incident where Shirley had attempted to force a purchase upon him at the clinic.
“These people are truly lawless,” Director-General Lynd commented, his strong sense of justice repelled by such unscrupulous behavior. “Rest assured, I will have Director Chesterton of the health bureau handle the Horse Pharmaceutical matter. Those who have broken the law will face the consequences they deserve!”
“Thank you for your help, Director-General Lynd,” Leo expressed his gratitude before asking, “Have you encountered any peculiar incidents?”
Thinking back to what happened yesterday, Director-General Lynd couldn’t help but shudder.
Just the previous night, as he was returning home after a official dinner, a large truck carrying steel rods had turned onto the road ahead of Director-General Lynd.
Wanting to overtake the truck, Director-General Lynd had attempted several times, but the truck’s illegal occupation of the road had made it impossible. Despite flashing his lights and honking the horn repeatedly, the truck driver seemed oblivious.
With no choice, Director-General Lynd had been forced to follow behind the truck.
After a while, he noticed a red plastic bag fluttering ahead on the road. Leo’s words immediately echoed in his mind: If you see something red while driving, step on the brake immediately, or you’ll be in mortal danger!
Almost instinctively or perhaps guided by fate, Director-General Lynd hit the brake pedal.
The BMW came to a halt.
The loaded truck bumped, causing the steel rods it carried to break free and plunge downward like sharp arrows onto the road.
Accompanied by a series of piercing sounds, several steel rods had impaled the asphalt in front of the BMW’s hood!
It was clear that if Director-General Lynd hadn’t slammed on the brakes just then, the outcome would have been fatal, resulting in an instant demise.
Overwhelmed by post-traumatic fear and cold sweat, Director-General Lynd had finally made it home.
Yet, peculiar events continued into the midnight hours.
Around midnight, Director-General Lynd, who already had shallow sleep, heard a rustling noise.
Thinking a thief had entered his home, he anxiously got out of bed and cautiously followed the sound, guided by its source.
The eerie noise was coming from his daughter’s room.
Slowly and quietly, Director-General Lynd opened the door to her room. What he saw would remain etched in his memory forever.
His daughter stood in front of the closet, holding a fruit knife and smiling at her reflection in the mirror.
Or was it a smile? It was like crying. It was a strange and eerie sound that defied description.
When she heard the door open, she turned her head toward it, raising the knife toward her own throat.
This sight terrified Director-General Lynd. He had wanted to rush in and grab the knife from his daughter’s hand, but his feet felt as though they were rooted to the ground.
In desperation, he could only shout for his wife.
Thankfully, his wife rushed in and managed to snatch the knife away from their daughter, preventing a tragic outcome.
After soothing their daughter to sleep, Director-General Lynd found himself unable to rest. He wanted to talk to his wife, but she wasn’t on the living room couch as expected. Instead, she was on the balcony, opening the window.
Director-General Lynd hurried over and pulled her back.
Later, when he inquired why she had gone to the balcony, his wife had no recollection. It was as if she had been sleepwalking.
The sequence of strange events left Director-General Lynd compelled to believe Leo’s words. Otherwise, there was simply no explanation for all of this.
With the invisible malevolent energy Leo had mentioned still affecting him, Director-General Lynd found it difficult to sleep or eat properly. If this issue wasn’t resolved, he might meet an untimely end, and it would be the same for his wife and daughter.
After Renee informed Director-General Lynd about Leo opening a clinic called “Nameless,” he had come to find him.
At the clinic, Director-General Lynd had learned about the situation from Dr. Davy. He then contacted the health bureau and rushed there.
Upon recounting his experiences, Director-General Lynd looked at Leo with hopeful eyes, saying, “Mr. Bloomer, now I believe what you told me that day. Can you please help me?”
Leo pondered for a moment before responding, “I’ll start by checking your car.”
Outside, Director-General Lynd stated, “Mr. Bloomer, I’ve thoroughly examined the car. There shouldn’t be any problems.”
Leo activated his spiritual power and scanned the car like a detector, identifying the issue quickly.
With a large piece of cardboard from the clinic’s lobby positioned under the car’s chassis, Leo leaned in and examined the underside.
Under the curious gaze of Director-General Lynd, Leo soon retrieved something from the car’s undercarriage.
First came a paper ghost money, which startled Director-General Lynd, “Why on earth is there something like this in my car?”
Following that were a white filial cloth, the type worn by children during mourning, and then a embroidered red shoes. Lastly, a black and white photograph.
As Leo sequentially removed these eerie, death-associated items from the car, Director-General Lynd was left utterly dumbfounded.
This was his recently purchased new car, not a second-hand one. How could these items be here?
Staring at the face in the black and white photograph, Director-General Lynd felt his heart pound even faster in fear.
