Director Lynd flatly refused, “No need. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with my car, and I’m not affected by any curse.”
“Director Lynd, has anyone else used your car? Maybe they took your car for a spin,” Leo suggested.
“That’s enough!” Director Lynd cut Leo off before he could finish his sentence.
“Don’t give me that supernatural nonsense. I’m not interested!” Director Lynd stood up from his chair, addressing Renee, “Renee, I’d advise you to steer clear of this mystical charlatan. I’ve got things to do, so I’m leaving now. We’ll have coffee another day.”
Director Lynd snatched his car key from the table, shot Leo a glare, and exited the room.
Director Lynd, a staunch materialist, would have probably called the police if Leo hadn’t been introduced by Renee. These remnants of feudal superstition, to use them so brazenly to deceive others, and to top it off, to deceive him!
It was simply preposterous!
Oh right, Renee mentioned that this guy had opened a Chinese medicine clinic. After he returned, Director Lynd would definitely arrange for a thorough inspection, just to prevent quacks from harming patients.
Renee stood up, wanting to call after Director Lynd, but the words remained unsaid at the tip of her tongue. Though she didn’t fully grasp what Leo had just talked about, she still believed him in her heart.
Leo got up from his chair too and said to Renee, “Let’s follow him out.”
The two followed Director Lynd to the parking lot, where he had already gotten into his BMW.
In Leo’s eyes, the BMW was also shrouded in a faint dark curse energy. When the BMW started, a surge of ominous energy even seemed to emanate, as if growing stronger.
Leo hurried to the front of the BMW and shouted, “Director Lynd, if you don’t address this curse energy issue in time, you might face a disaster! When you’re driving and you see something red, slam on the brakes!”
This enraged Director Lynd. He rolled down the window and yelled, “Get out of here!”
Director Lynd hit the accelerator, and Leo had to step aside, sighing helplessly. It seemed like Director Lynd was in for some serious trouble.
“Leo, do you think Director Lynd will really be in trouble?” Renee walked up to Leo, concerned.
Leo nodded, “Within three days, something will happen. If he’s lucky, he might survive a bit longer.”
Two days later, Sophia’s company faced a major problem.
The supply channel for imported cosmetics was cut off.
The two intermediaries who had been working well with Sophia suddenly went missing under mysterious circumstances.
Anxious, Sophia tried to find new intermediaries immediately, but it wasn’t easy to find suitable ones so quickly.
In the afternoon, as she returned home, though she knew Leo couldn’t be of much help, Sophia still shared her difficulties with him.
Leo knew little about cosmetics and their sales, but just as he contemplated whether to ask Renee for help, Sophia’s phone rang.
Sophia furrowed her brows and answered the call.
From the corner of his eye, Leo noticed it was Bruno on the line.
When the call ended, Sophia’s worried expression seemed to ease a bit.
“What did Bruno say to you?” Leo inquired curiously.
“Bruno said he’s willing to share Breeze Cosmetics’ supply channel for imported cosmetics with me.”
“Isn’t Breeze Cosmetics under Fanny’s management now?”
“On the surface, yes, but in reality, Bruno is still in control.” Sophia was more familiar with the family’s inner workings than Leo was. “Bruno wants me to discuss cooperation with intermediaries tomorrow.”
Leo felt there was more to this than meets the eye and cautioned, “Sophia, Bruno would love nothing more than to oust you from the position of leader of your company. It’s suspicious how he’s suddenly being so generous. I think there’s something fishy going on.”
Sophia pondered for a moment and said, “Regardless, I still have to give it a try.”
“Where and when does he want you to meet?”
“He said he’ll message me tomorrow.”
“I’ll accompany you then!”
Leo wanted to see what trick Bruno was up to this time.
Back at home, Leo began preparing dinner, washing the vegetables and cooking.
On the living room couch, Martin pointed towards the kitchen and whispered to Jessica, “Let me tell you a secret. A couple of mornings ago, I saw Leo coming out of Sophia’s room.”
Jessica rolled her eyes at him. “Do you even need to say it? I’ve known for a while now.”
“In that case, does it mean I’ll be able to become a grandfather soon?” Martin’s heart leaped with joy.
Martin wasn’t particularly concerned if Leo was useless or not. Seeing his fellow antique enthusiast friends becoming grandparents, he also wanted to hold a grandchild.
Jessica scoffed, “You’re being overly optimistic. Although Sophia allowed Leo into her bedroom, he’s still sleeping on the floor. Climbing onto the bed won’t be that easy!”
“I think otherwise. Lately, I’ve noticed Sophia slowly accepting Leo. At this rate, I might get to hold a grandchild next year!”
Jessica stared at him, raising an eyebrow. “Martin, do you really wish our precious daughter to spend her life with that deadweight?”
“Your words don’t hit the mark. Leo isn’t just working at Wilde Jewelry Company; he’s earning a decent annual salary!”
“Tch, earning a salary? Just listen to his boasting. Anyway, I’ve made a deal with him for a year. After a year, if he can’t deliver on his promises, I’m still going to kick him out!” Jessica had made up her mind.
“What kind of deal is this for a year?” Martin asked, curious.
“Nothing.” Jessica waved it off.
In her view, Leo probably wouldn’t succeed in this lifetime. Even if he earned a million in annual salary, it would take a hundred years without spending a dime to accumulate a hundred million. And even that seemed inadequate for the Clouddream Mountain villa.
After dinner, Leo cleaned up the kitchen and washed the dishes.
Once the household chores were done, Leo went upstairs to Sophia’s room. He filled the bathtub with warm water suitable for a bath and then asked Sophia to enjoy a soothing soak.
Listening to the intermittent sounds of water from the bathroom, Leo wished he could share a relaxing bath with Sophia, but she had tightly shut the bathroom door, denying Leo any opportunity.
Sitting on the floor, Leo daydreamed while awaiting the beauty to emerge from her bath.
Finally, the door opened.
Leo turned his head and saw Sophia in a low-cut nightgown, her hair still slightly damp. Coupled with her naturally stunning face, it was like a beautiful painting of a water nymph.
“Leo, could you help me blow dry my hair?” Sophia noticed Leo’s absentminded expression, a playful smile tugging at her lips.
“Sure thing.” Leo quickly stood up and fetched a hair dryer.
Sophia’s hair was soft and smooth, with excellent quality. Especially after a bath, her flowing tresses cascaded like a black waterfall down her back.
After drying her hair, Sophia lay down on the bed, while Leo still made himself comfortable on the floor.
The lights went out.
Though Leo had slept here for several nights already, he still found it hard to fall asleep.
