Chapter 157: Bought It All

Book:The All-powerful Son-In-Law Published:2024-6-3

Karen had encountered plenty of men, and those pursuing her could easily form a queue, so she was adept at spotting signs of interest and desire in a man’s eyes.
After observing Leo, she came to a conclusion: there was something unusual about him, likely that he was gay.
No wonder Sophia had told her that in the past four years, there hadn’t been any intimate contact between her and Leo.
As Karen was about to return to the fitting room to change back into her own clothes, a man and a woman entered the store.
This boutique was quite pricey, so aside from Leo’s group of three, only five customers were present, including the newly arrived couple.
The woman was dressed provocatively, with a strong scent of perfume surrounding her.
The man had a buzz cut and multiple gold rings on his fingers. He even had a gold necklace around his neck. The only thing missing was the words “I’m a nouveau riche!” written on his face.
With such a nouveau riche as her partner, the woman was also flamboyant. She didn’t bother trying on the clothes; if they fit her size, she would just have them packed.
Sophia took a short skirt off the rack and was about to head to the fitting room when the woman suddenly rushed forward and snatched the dress from her hands, instructing the salesgirl, “Pack this one for me too.”
The salesgirl was secretly thrilled. This high-end boutique rarely had many customers due to its expensive offerings, and having a big spender like them today was a once-in-a-blue-moon occurrence.
The salesgirl considered that the first three customers-Leo’s group-probably didn’t have much purchasing power, as they had been trying on clothes for a long time and hadn’t bought anything.
So, the salesgirl didn’t think to ask Sophia and simply packed the dress that the woman had pointed out.
This scene played out before Karen’s eyes just as she was about to enter the fitting room. She was quite furious and stepped forward indignantly, saying, “What are you doing? Even when buying things, there should be an order. If my friend has already selected this dress, you should ask for her opinion first!”
The woman looked at Karen, lifted her chin arrogantly, and retorted, “Your friend didn’t say she wanted it. This dress has nothing to do with your friend. Why should I ask for her opinion?”
“Ridiculous! You should at least try on clothes before buying them. How can you say it has nothing to do with her?” Karen argued.
The woman’s expression turned disdainful. “I never try on clothes before buying them. If they don’t fit, I just throw them away. People like you, who spend all day trying things on, must be stingy with money. It makes sense, though. You work hard to save some money, and then you come to buy clothes. Naturally, you’d want to try until you’re completely satisfied.”
The woman’s mocking words made Karen almost lose her temper.
Sophia tugged at Karen’s hand, gesturing for her not to get too worked up, and then looked at the woman, saying, “I won’t try on this dress. I’ll buy it.”
“Miss, let me ask you something. The dress you put in the bag earlier, were you planning to sell it to her or to me?” The woman arrogantly inquired.
The salesgirl was a bit hesitant, pointing to the identical dress still on the rack. “Ladies, we have more of this dress available.”
The woman shook her head with a smile. “No, I want this one.”
The salesgirl turned to Sophia, who also shook her head. “I only want this one.”
Having been wronged, Sophia couldn’t let this go.
The woman continued, “Miss, if you sell her that dress, I won’t want the other clothes I picked out earlier.”
The more clothes sold, the higher the commission. So, without much hesitation, the salesgirl apologized to Sophia, saying, “I’m sorry, according to the rules of buying and selling, whoever expresses their intention to purchase first has the priority. So…”
Karen was furious. “What nonsense! I only know that my friend had her eyes on this dress. Until she gives up, you can’t sell it to anyone else. Call your manager over!”
The salesgirl had worked here for five years and had seen all sorts of customers. From her perspective, the more a customer complained, the less money they usually had. So, her demeanor grew cold, and she said, “Honestly, with the amount this young lady spent just now, she has automatically become a VIP member of our store, which gives her priority. Even if you talk to the manager, it won’t help.”
“Since you don’t have money in your wallet, why bother fighting for this little bit of face? It’s not worth it,” the woman gloated. The sense of superiority bought with money was truly satisfying.
The nouveau riche man chimed in, “They say the customer is god, but that’s BS. Let me tell you, the real gods are the ones with money. If you want to show off, you better make sure you have the power to back it up!”
Dealing with this kind of rude people and a snobbish salesgirl, Karen was finding it hard to suppress her anger. She was about to retort when Leo, who had remained silent, stepped forward.
“Miss, I understand your point. You’re saying the one who spends the most money gets the priority, right?” Leo looked at the salesgirl and calmly asked.
She nodded, “That’s right.”
The nouveau riche man sneered at Leo. “Bro, are you trying to compete with me in terms of money?”
Sophia tugged at Leo’s sleeve, whispering, “Leo, forget it. Give them the dress.”
In Sophia’s view, it was unnecessary to quarrel with these nouveau riches.
“Trees may lose leaves, but humans can’t lose their spirit. Sophia, as long as I’m here, no one can attack you with money,” Leo told Sophia gently.
Hearing this, Karen widened her eyes. She couldn’t believe these words were coming from a man who was supposedly a gold digger.
The man burst into laughter, “Bro, it’s easy to pretend in front of women, but to be convincing, your wallet needs to be thicker. I suggest you back off while you can. Otherwise, you’ll embarrass yourself later when a woman kicks you out.”
“Darling, don’t waste time arguing with them. Ask the salesgirl to kick these three out. I don’t want their presence to ruin my shopping mood,” the woman said, noticing that her partner’s gaze was drifting between the two women.
“Miss, did you hear what my girlfriend said just now?” the man turned to the salesgirl.
The salesgirl gestured apologetically, “Ladies and gentleman, if you’re not purchasing anything, please leave.”
Leo’s lips curled into a smirk, “Miss, tell me, if I were to sell all the clothes in your store, could you help me kick this couple out?”
After a brief moment of shock, everyone assumed Leo was joking.
“Leo, have you lost your mind?” Sophia thought Leo was exaggerating. After all, he had only started working at Wilde Jewelry Company recently. How could he possibly afford to buy out the entire store?
