The girl with the ponytail was infuriated and pushed Leo away, saying, “You’re not a doctor, why are you sticking needles into my grandpa? Are you trying to kill him!?”
“Listen, don’t listen to them. I’ve temporarily stabilized your grandpa’s condition. I just need to administer one final needle, and he’ll be cured,” Leo’s heart was deeply invested in the old man’s well-being.
However, the girl remained unconvinced and threatened, “I don’t care! If you dare to use needles on my grandpa again, I’ll bite you to death!”
As she spoke, the old man coughed, spitting out a mouthful of black blood.
“Grandpa, what’s wrong? Don’t scare me! Doctor, please come quickly!” the girl urgently called out with tears in her eyes.
“Let me administer the last needle!” Leo was anxious; every moment counted now.
“You get lost!” The girl had lost her composure and attempted to grab and bite Leo. He quickly evaded her.
When women go crazy, it can be quite terrifying.
The sound of an ambulance grew closer, arriving quickly at the scene. The paramedics examined the old man and provided basic medical care, and he slowly opened his eyes.
The girl was relieved, thanking the medical team. “Doctor, thank you so much!”
“The patient’s condition is unstable. He must be taken to the hospital immediately,” one of the paramedics stated.
“Please, hurry and take my grandpa to the hospital!” The girl urged.
Before getting into the ambulance, she warned Leo, “Your needles are still stuck in my grandpa’s body. If anything happens to him in the hospital, I won’t let you off the hook!”
Sophia stepped forward to defend Leo, “Watch your words. My husband was only trying to help your grandpa. Even if you don’t appreciate it, there’s no need to insult him.”
Leo felt a little moved by Sophia’s defense. Her support was something new to him.
The girl sneered, “He doesn’t even have a medical license. He’s not a doctor at all. Claiming to save my grandpa? It’s laughable. You two are just trying to harm us for money! You shameless people!”
*Smack!*
A crisp sound echoed as Sophia slapped girl’s face.
In that moment, Sophia’s authoritative presence as the bossy CEO emerged, stunning everyone present.
“How dare you hit me…” The girl screamed and attempted to rush at Sophia.
Leo grabbed her wrist, preventing her from moving any further.
“Let me go!” The girl tried to bite Leo’s wrist.
Leo quickly released her wrist and stood protectively in front of Sophia.
The girl took a few steps back, ready to pounce again, but Leo warned, “Your grandpa’s life is hanging by a thread in the ambulance. If you delay him any further, you’ll be the one responsible for his death.”
The girl was stunned, quickly running towards the ambulance. Before leaving, she threw a final threat, “I’ll get back at you for that slap. Just wait and see!”
As the ambulance drove away, Leo held a silver needle in his hand. His expression was somewhat blank, and he sighed inwardly, “All the efforts are in vain.”
He knew that if the doctors couldn’t completely remove the poison from the old man’s body, he would have at most one more month to live, even with the help of his six needles.
The onlookers whispered among themselves before dispersing. Max and Lily’s family, having enjoyed watching Leo’s troubles, mocked him a little more and then left as well.
On the way back, Sophia drove while Leo spoke sincerely, “Sophia, thank you for what happened just now.”
“No need to thank me. I just can’t stand her behavior,” Sophia reverted to her usual cold demeanor.
After a night of turmoil, they returned to the Henley family mansion, where it was already past eleven. Jessica hadn’t returned yet, and Martin was already asleep. Tina’s room was lit, and her laughter could be heard. It seemed she was chatting happily with someone.
As usual, Leo and Sophia retired to their separate rooms.
Although Leo noticed some changes in Sophia’s attitude towards him recently, getting into her room was still out of the question.
After taking a shower, Leo comfortably settled into bed.
A whatsapp notification rang out.
He picked up his phone and opened the whatsapp. It was from Nicola, a mischievous emoji and three words: “Are you asleep?”
“I am,” Leo replied with two words.
Almost instantly, Nicola responded with a huff, “Hmph, boring man. I’m going to sleep. Goodnight.”
Leo smiled and turned off the phone screen.
He slept deeply that night.
The next morning at 7:30, Leo got up and made breakfast. Thanks to his knowledge of medicinal cuisine, today’s breakfast was more delicious than usual.
Tina remarked: “Leo, your culinary skills seem to be improving, and you might even capture my taste buds, but to get my approval as a brother-in-law, sorry, that’s still impossible.”
Her words hit Leo right in the heart.
He suddenly recalled a term he learned back in school, “stereotyping.” Once a person forms a fixed impression of someone, it’s challenging to change that impression.
Tina undoubtedly had a stereotyped impression of Leo.
After breakfast, Leo dropped Sophia off at her company and then drove to the underground parking lot of the restaurant where his car was broken. He contacted the Mercedes-Benz dealership.
He couldn’t continue using Nicola’s car indefinitely. Although the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class had been badly damaged by Carey and his gang, Leo was determined to get it repaired.
The staff from the dealership arrived promptly and treated Leo with great courtesy. They arranged for the car to be towed away and assured him that he would receive a call when it was ready for pick-up.
Leo was impressed with the excellent service provided by Langstel, the Mercedes-Benz dealership.
With the car issue taken care of, Leo drove to the Wilde Jewelry Company.
His top priority was to get the HR department to issue him an employee ID card. Without concrete evidence, he wouldn’t be able to convince his mother-in-law to trust him.
After parking the car, he went straight to the fifth floor where the HR department was located and quickly obtained his employee ID.
The manager of the HR department was also very polite to him, considering he was now Coral’s designated chief jade gambling consultant.
Since he was already here, Leo decided to say hello to Coral. As he approached the front desk on the fifth floor, a woman in office attire with a smile walked towards him.
Leo recognized her as Coral’s secretary, Elsa Clarissa.
