At noon the next day, Leo dropped off Sophia at her workplace and then drove to the hospital.
After administering the third treatment to Harry’s father, the old man was finally able to slowly get out of bed.
Harry and Venus, witnessing the miracle happening to their father, couldn’t help but marvel at Leo’s incredible medical skills.
But for Leo, that wasn’t the most important thing. What mattered most was that Venus handed him a check for 30 million dollars.
Although Leo’s in-laws, the Henley family, were wealthy, he had never seen so much money in his life.
This was the first significant amount of money that he had earned, and it marked his first step toward leaving the Henley family.
Leo planned to find a suitable time to discuss divorce with Sophia and start a completely new life.
After leaving the hospital, Leo wanted to go to a more secluded place in the outskirts of the city to explore, looking for a location with a slightly stronger spiritual energy for cultivation. However, his phone started ringing.
It was an unfamiliar number.
Leo pressed the answer button.
“Hello, is this Mr. Leo Bloomer?” The voice on the other end was pleasant.
“Yes, what can I do for you?” Leo replied.
“I’m Hilda Bertram, the manager of the Human Resources Department at Wilde Jewelry Company. I would like to invite you for an interview. Are you available today?” Hilda introduced herself.
Leo was surprised that the manager of Wilde Jewelry Company’s HR department called him personally. From this, he could guess that the old man he encountered on Antique Street held a significant position in this company.
Leo pondered for a moment and made a decision. “I’m available. What time is the interview, and where is it?”
“At 1:30 p. m. this afternoon. Come to the fifth floor of the Wilde Jewelry Company building and find me,” Hilda informed him.
“Alright, thank you,” Leo said and hung up the phone. He gave up on finding a place for cultivation since he had decided to leave the Henley family. To survive in society, it was more practical to have a formal job.
After having lunch outside, Leo walked into the Wilde Jewelry Company building ten minutes early in the afternoon.
After registering, he went up to the fifth floor and asked the staff there for the location of the Human Resources Department. Then he made his way there.
Finding the Human Resources Department, Leo stood outside the manager’s office and knocked on the door.
“Come in,” a woman’s voice came from inside.
Leo pushed the door open and saw a middle-aged woman in professional attire sitting behind a spacious desk.
“Hello, I’m Leo,” he greeted her.
Hilda glanced at Leo and stood up from her office chair. “Follow me,” she said.
Following Hilda, they went up to the sixth floor and stopped in front of an office door.
Leo noticed a sign on the right side of the office door with the Wilde Jewelry Company logo, indicating that it was the CEO’s office.
Hilda knocked on the frosted glass door, and a melodious female voice came from inside, “Please come in.”
Hilda entered the office and respectfully said to the woman inside, “Miss Wilde, Mr. Bloomer is here.”
“Let him in,” the woman nodded.
Hilda stepped out of the office, gesturing for Leo to enter. “Please come in. Miss Wilde will interview you personally.”
Leo nodded and walked in.
Hilda didn’t linger and turned to leave. She had come up with a reasonable excuse for this in her mind. Usually, when the CEO personally interviewed someone, it was likely that the person had influential connections.
Once inside, the first thing Leo saw was a grand and spacious desk.
Behind the desk sat a woman in a light purple casual outfit, around the same age as Sophia and as beautiful as her, but with an even more captivating presence.
As Leo observed Coral, she was also sizing him up.
Today, Leo was wearing jeans and a button-down shirt. To be honest, Coral’s first impression on him wasn’t the best.
Coral smiled and pointed to the chair in front of her. “Leo, have a seat.”
Leo followed her instructions and sat down on the chair. It was his first experience with a job interview, and he couldn’t help feeling a little nervous, especially since he was being interviewed by the CEO, who happened to be a beautiful woman.
“Leo, I heard that you know how to gamble with jade stones,” Coral got straight to the point.
“I know a little bit,” Leo replied, knowing he shouldn’t oversell himself.
“I assume you know the purpose of your visit to Wilde Jewelry Company today. I’m straightforward, so I’ll speak directly. Currently, we need a Chief Gemstone Appraiser for our jade business. Do you think you’re capable of handling this role?” Coral’s gaze was intense as she looked at Leo.
Most people would feel a strong sense of pressure under her gaze.
Surprisingly, Leo didn’t show any signs of panic in his eyes.
Leo responded, “Being a gemstone appraiser requires extensive expertise, which I’m afraid I don’t possess. However, if it involves gambling with stones, I have no problem.”
“Oh, what’s the probability of winning in your gambling?” Coral asked.
“Over 60%,” Leo answered cautiously. He couldn’t claim it was 100% accurate.
Coral suddenly burst into laughter, as if she had heard a hilarious joke.
It had to be said that she looked stunning when she laughed, and Leo couldn’t help but steal a few more glances at her.
“Leo, I think you came here today not for an interview but to tell me jokes,” Coral said.
“What do you mean?” Leo furrowed his brow.
“Do you know the winning rate of our Chief Stone Gambling Advisor at Wilde Jewelry Company?” Coral’s expression suddenly turned serious.
“What is it?”
“Approximately 35%! At that level, she’s considered an expert in the industry. Even in the entire country, she would undoubtedly be ranked among the top three!” Coral stated.
After speaking, Coral waved her hand dismissively. “You may leave now. Wilde Jewelry Company doesn’t need someone who talks big without substance.”
Coral remembered her grandfather’s advice. If Leo couldn’t be useful, she would arrange any random job for him. But she didn’t want a boaster.
Later, she would tell her grandfather about today’s interview, and she believed he would understand her decision.
Leo’s lips curved up, and he stood up from the chair. However, instead of leaving, he placed his hands on the desk and stared straight at Coral.
“What are you doing?” Coral leaned back, thinking Leo was about to do something inappropriate.
“Miss Wilde, let’s make a bet,” Leo said.
“I’m not in the mood to bet with you. Please leave!” Coral dismissed him.
“30 million. Let’s bet 30 million!” Leo extended three fingers. “You have your employees bring some rough stones for gambling, and I’ll prove to you that I have a winning rate of over 60%. If I can’t do it, I’ll lose 30 million to you. But if I succeed, you owe me an apology.”
This statement caught Coral’s attention. Judging from Leo’s mannerisms, speech, and appearance, he didn’t seem like a rich family’s scion. How could he dare propose a gambling match worth 30 million?
In this bet, her stake was just an apology, while he would risk losing 30 million. It seemed like she had the upper hand.
And in Langstel’s rich second generation, she hadn’t heard of anyone named Leo.
It was intriguing.
