I bit my lip as I sat on the chair. Even if I know he’s still behind me, I decided to eat with head dropped. I want to stop the pain in my heart but why does it seem hard to accept if he’ll also leave me this time.
My eyes raised to him. And his eyes looked more serious and unreadable.
“Eat with me.” I pointed the plate I got for him.
He didn’t hesitate and sat down in front of me. I cleared my throat as I watched him sit in front of me. He often sit at the end part of the table before.
I can’t help but to glance at him from time to time. I can still smell his manly scented perfume, no, it’s his natural scent. Even his skin thst was slightly red brought me heat in my body.
“Can I have this?”
I flinched when he reached for the bowl of menudo. My eyes flew to him to him who was staring at me intently.
“Oh, yeah, sure!” I startled.
I cleared my throat and silently went back to eating. But my eyes daeted to him when he spoke.
“I want to talk to the investors and business partners of Rising Stone. I actually already scheduled the meeting tomorrow morning.”
I sighed and played with the spoon on the plate.
“I want to give them an offer, a better offer actually.”
I looked at him. I want to ask him why he’s doing this. We’re not yet over I know, but this is too much to ask. It’s not good for him to interfere with my personal life.
“No, thanks. But I can handle this matter. You don’t need to do that.” I said.
“I won’t take it! I am the one who’s responsible for this. Everything happened when I disappeared. ”
I smiled bitterly. “So, this is your way to make up for everything?” I asked with a lace of sarcasm.
I saw him clench his jaw. His stare darkened as if he has a lot to say.
“That’s not what I mean, Emory.” he said in a serious voice.
“I’m done!” I dropped my spoon and stood up.
I didn’t spare him a glance when he grabbed my arm.
“Will you please listen to me?” He’s now ordering me.
I shut my eyes and bit my tongue. I faced him and crossed my arms.
“What do you want? Why were you here all along? Because I’m sick and tired of this conversation, Hezekiah!”
But he only gave me a sigh. And I just rolled up my eyes. I know I won’t get an answer, but I’m hoping for him to say something that could at least ease me up.
“I already talked to Attorney Sanchez. There’s a big chance that we can get the shares that your company lost. And you will take the Rising Stone’s back under your control as soon as I make a deal with the investors.”
I stopped for a moment. I read his eyes to see if everything I heard was true, not knowing that I held my gaze at him for a long moment. If I didn’t notice his lips lifted, I wouldn’t snap out.
“Uh, do what ever you want…” I said before leaving him and walking to my room.
I laid on my bed and covered myself with blanket. Damn it, Emory. What the hell are you doing?! I tried to close my eyes to calm my heart but it was still erratic.
When we got home from the hospital, Hezekiah never once slept beside me. I don’t think it’s just because of my miscarriage, but there is something else.
I held the blanket tighter when I heard the door creaking open. I squeezed my eyes and felt him slowly walked inside.
My heart almost stopped on its beats. I held my breath as he walked silently toward the bathroom for a shower every night. There’s a lot of room in the house, and there are bathrooms too, but I don’t know why he still chose to come here to bath.
I closed my eyes and tried to calm my heart. I also tried to sleep but I couldn’t. At that point, the bathroom door opened and I heard his strides going to the walk in closet. I gulped.
I think something is not right here. Why do I need to pretend like I’m asleep when he’s here?!
I sighed heavily before getting up. But instead of him being surprised by my sudden action, I was the one who got silenced because of his look.
He’s only wearing a black boxer shorts while ruffling the towel on his wet hair.
“Shit!” I hid inside the blanket and squeezed my eyes shut. But I got up again and faced him.
“Why are you doing this, huh?!”
He stopped what he’s doing and walked to the bed in front of me.
“I’m just gonna take a quick shower. I don’t see anything wrong with it.”
My lips hanged loosely. My eyes went to his body. His perfectly built body and that bulge.
“T-There’s a lot of bathroom downstairs. Why don’t you shower there?” Fuck, why am I damn stuttering?!
I saw his lips lifted and continued drying his hair in front of me.
“My clothes are here. Besides, this is also my room.” he said in a soft tone.
I moved my lips and held the comforter tightly. “Y-you can leave now. I want to sleep.”
“Good night…” I whispered shakily.
I thought he’s gonna leave, but my back straightened when he kneeled one of his knees and crouched down to me.
Everything happened so fast. He’s now so close to me with just a few inches. My throat dried up because of his scent invading my nostrils.
He lowered down his head and his dark piercing eyes raked my face slowly.
“Until when will you make me suffer like this, Emory?” he muttered closely.
His words cut my heart out. I didn’t expect him to say that to me. Before I could even utter a word, he moved away and walked out of the room.
I woke up early that monday morning. I planned to go to the office and I also planned to go out with Dad today.
“Good morning, Ate!” Trina greeted cheerfully.
I noticed her cleaning Hezekiah’s plate.
“Did he leave?”
“Yes, Ate. Should I prepare your breakfast?” she smiled at me.
“No need, I’ll have my breakfast on the office.”
She seemed surprised. “Ah, yes, Ate !”
“I also won’t have lunch here.”
She just nodded at me as I told her some tasks and chores she needs to do.
I decided to pass by the mall first before going to the office. Like usual, it was crowded especially because summer is coming.
After I checked the newly opened food stall and kiosk, I went to the office.
As I expected, the employees were shocked to see me entering the office.
“Good morning, Miss President!” an employee went to me.
I only smiled at here, I did the same to every one I pass by.
“Is Zuay there?” I asked the girl in the front desk of her office.
“Miss Rosales is in a meetin–also Mr. Grant. ” she said politely.
“Did the meeting already started?”
“They just entered the conference. They’re still waiting for Mr. Houghans.”
“Okay, thank you!” I gave a small smile before walking my way to the conference room.
