Kade
Slumping into my chair, a heavy sigh left my lips as I glanced at Esmeralda who lay asleep on my bed, her blood staining the white sheets.
I grabbed the bottle of whiskey on my table, gulping down its content, not minding the burning effect it had on my throat.
It was hot. Like fire.
I was on fire! Except the fire was anger.
Raw anger boiled in my blood the moment I locked my gaze with Esmeralda who looked like she had seen a ghost when she saw me.
More anger washed through me when I remembered telling her the boundaries in the house the night she came.
I could have known she would flaunt my orders.
But I had trusted her anyway. So foolish of me.
“Calm down, Kade,” Tyson tried to pacify me, but a dangerous growl from me sent him recoiling back in my head.
“Calm down, you say? You saw what she did, didn’t you?” I asked breathless in anger.
“I know, but I think…”
“You think what?” I cut him before I could hear more of his annoying words which I didn’t want to.
“I think you should think this carefully…”
Damn! He still kept talking.
“Shut up, Tyson, you don’t get to talk again!” I yelled, threatening to block him out of my head.
“She wasn’t supposed to be there. That place was off limits, for anyone,”
“But she is our mate. She deserves to know about your past,” Tyson protested.
“The North wing includes her, she isn’t supposed to go. She doesn’t need to know anything. She is not my mate. I haven’t marked her yet. And I don’t plan on doing it in this life,” I said, gritting my teeth as more anger charged within me.
“Oh, Kade. You need to heal,” Tyson said in surrender, letting out soft whimpers.
“Well, I was healed before she reminded me of my past again,”
“You haven’t healed Kade, if you have, you won’t have her shut up in the wing. And think of the bright side, Esmeralda can help you heal, just trust her,” He said almost convincingly.
No. I wasn’t going to buy that.
“She couldn’t even heal herself,” I chuckled, letting my gaze rest on her scarred arms and legs, “And her marks too. You think she can heal the Blood Alpha?”
“Your pride stinks, Kade,”
I stretched my hand for it to meet the half-filled bottle of whiskey.
Grabbing it, I took a long gulp, savouring its stinging effects once more.
“Those marks were from her previous master and he was a jerk,” Tyson howled. I could feel waves of anger wash through him as his eyes won’t stop examining the scars on her beautiful skin.
He was mad. And he couldn’t wait to tear her former master apart.
“Maybe he did the right thing because she doesn’t listen to simple instructions,”
She was disobedient.
She should be dealt with, mercilessly, so that she won’t go where she shouldn’t, next time. Maybe she would sit her pretty ass down.
“You won’t dare!” Tyson growled, pacing about my head, “You won’t dare lay a finger on her,”
Oh, Tyson, I would!
Taking another gulp from the almost empty bottle, I tossed it aside, but the bottle fell, breaking into pieces and the content poured onto the floor.
Fuck!
Tyson was messing with my head and the whiskey that helped was already wasted.
I needed to do something before I act irrational.
Silence reigned in the room for minutes as I sat on the edge of my table, glaring at Esmeralda’s small frame that lay on my bed.
It annoyed me that she slept so peacefully like nothing happened, while I was reminded of my past. My painful past.
“I hate her,” I blurted, ignoring the gasp from Tyson.
“I hate what she does to me. As if reminding me of Ava wasn’t enough, she had to remind me of Amelia,” My voice quivered at the mention of Amelia. It was only a matter of minutes before I spill tears.
Blinking hard, I continued, “And the wing, and father and mother, and…” I stopped, almost spilling tears.
I could imagine the look of disapproval on my father’s face if he were here watching me wallow in my emotions.
“It hurts,” I continued, giving no room for Tyson’s speech, “Those memories, they hurt a lot. For years, I have tried to keep a brave face and push them down, but today, I don’t think I can anymore. She made them resurface. She hurt me,”
“Woah, call down Kade,” Tyson warned. He knew what was coming after my statement.
“That vacuum that I thought was filled all these years, that wound in my heart that I thought had healed, she opened them and it hurts badly,” I sniffed, balling my fist. My fingers dug into my palm, dropping blood, but I didn’t care.
The pain I was feeling couldn’t be compared to the pain in my heart.
Fuck!
I cursed as Amelia’s face flashed in my head.
Amelia. Or maybe Amelia’s nightmare.
I couldn’t believe that was once my lively sister.
But now, She looked like the shadow of herself. She looked like a ghost.
My heart bled at her sight, and it was still bleeding.
It was my fault, I should have saved her, but I let myself become vulnerable.
Now, I had lost her.
She didn’t deserve what happened to her.
She was too pure, too innocent.
She just wanted to be happy. She just wanted to find her mate.
But as fate will have it, some bastard ruined her life and robbed her of her happiness.
She took the real Amelia away and left me with the ghosted version of her.
Unable to bear the pain as I saw my sweet little sister act like a lunatic, I lock her up in the North wing, bounding her in chains as if she were some slave.
Shutting her up in the wing was a temporary way of burying that feeling, but somehow, the feeling resurfaced.
Thanks to Esmeralda.
That girl better had a concrete reason for sneaking into the North wing to free Amelia or so help me.
A bitter chuckle escaped my lips.
So stupid of her to think she could rescue Amelia. So stupid.
Paralysed with trauma, helping Amelia was futile, it was a hard nut to crack. Even the best doctors failed at it.
But some stupid omega thought she could do it by herself.
Esmeralda wouldn’t cease to amaze me.
“It wasn’t her fault. I think you should wait for her to wake up before assuming things, “Tyson’s voice filled my head once more and rekindled my anger.
Wait for her to wake up?
No!
She was waking up now!
Walking over to my bed, where she lay, sleeping peacefully, I yanked her gripping her hand tight, so tight that they turned pink.
“Wake the hell up!” I yelled, angrily shaking her body vigorously.
How dare she have a good sleep when I was in pain!
“You will hurt her, Kade!”
I don’t care. She has to wake up and she has to do it now!
Why was he always defending Esmeralda?!
She broke the rules.
She broke my rules and made me feel weak and incapable of controlling her.
She should be punished!
