Phoebe
“Phoebe?” He called, startling me.
My temper sparked as my previous anger gripped me, threatening to roar back to life. But I knew better than to subject myself to my raging emotions.
It was only a matter of time.
Patience was all I needed.
My teeth clenched in disgust as his shaky hands touched mine. Those firm hands that I loved to touch now turned cancer to me, “What?”
He shuddered, surprised at my harsh voice, “Are… are you alright?” His voice quivered and his breathing turned erratic.
“I am,” I replied, surprised by how dangerously calm my voice was.
“But you hurt me,” His eyes roamed my face, checking for emotions, but fear and disappointment flashed through his eyes when he found none.
I would have torn you apart.
My eyes met his pierced skin. It was healed, but only the traces of dried blood remained.
“Really?” I asked with lack of interest.
He adjusted beside me, “What did I tell you about hurting people? And what are you supposed to do?”
My blood boiled in anger as the meaning of his words flashed in my head.
Don’t be silly!
He was using emotional blackmail to make me apologise?!
Phoebe doesn’t apologize. It was never in my dictionary.
“Phoebe? What are you supposed to do?”
“Don’t provoke me!” I growled, startling him.
Why was he so unreasonable?
Why did he find pleasure in playing the victim?
I was the one to receive an apology.
I doubt if I will be able to cope with him for long.
I was beginning to lose it.
“Patience,” I muttered to myself, trying to keep my emotions in check.
Patience. The only word binds my demons.
Patience. The only word that strengthened me and fuelled me with hope.
Nothing will stop me, not even his irritating attitude.
It was only a matter of time. I will conquer the world and take back what was mine.
“If there was anyone who deserved an apology, I am,” I struggled to blink back my tears, but they got the best of me, pouring freely down my eyes.
“You fucking cheated on mum before you had me and it resulted in that bastard. I am more angry because she got all the powers and I am left with nothing! Now, you brought her knowing how much I longed to have those powers. How could you?” I pounced on him, hitting his chest severely.
Fuck patience!
“I never cheated on your mother, pheebs. I will never cheat on my mate,” He hugged me tightly to his hairy chest, patting my shoulders slowly.
“What’s her name? What is the bitch’s name?” I asked amid tears. I just wanted to know what that bitch called herself.
“Her name is Esmeralda, not bitch and bastard. I get that you are angry so I will let it pass,”
Fuck you!
I sniffed, wiping the tears that stained my cheeks, “If you didn’t cheat on my mum before you had me, how did she get into the picture?” I pulled away from his grip, cocking my head to the side.
I needed answers.
A long sigh escaped his lips, “I met Esmeralda’s mother a year before I met my mate, your mum. I met my mate late. I was sent on an assignment to the human world where I met her mum,” His eyes shut as emotions flooded him.
“She was the most beautiful woman with the kindest heart. She had a perfect feminine figure and I fell for her that instant,”
“Just go straight to the point,” I rolled my eyes as a wave of jealousy hit me.
How dare he speak of another woman that way.
“Night drew near and I had nowhere to sleep. I bumped into her, explaining my predicament and she offered me a place to stay, temporarily,” A sad smile played on his lips.
“I guessed she felt the same way toward me and we couldn’t deny it. We were attracted to each other. Right there, that cold long night, we did it. After some days, I visited her and asked her to be my girlfriend, but she refused, saying it was too dangerous because she knew what I was, a werewolf. After weeks of persuading her, I gave up, oblivious of her pregnancy.
“Months later, I visited the human world and I decided to check on her, but I was shocked to see her baby bump. After so much persuasion, she confessed and told me I was the father of the child. But she didn’t want me in her life nor her child’s life and she had moved on. She turned deaf ears to my pleading and shut me out,” He sniffed, his teeth biting into his trembling lips.
Was he crying?
“I met my mate months later and she was the love of my life. Every bit of love I had for Esmeralda’s mum was transferred to her. But I was afraid, I couldn’t confess that I had a child outside, I didn’t know how she would react so I bottled it in myself. A year later, we had you, but I didn’t confess,”
“I knew I couldn’t keep this forever. I knew I just had to. I had to tell Esmeralda what she was and bring her where she belonged. She is a wolf, a powerful one, not a freaking human. Though I fought her mum tooth and nail for it, she knew she couldn’t keep the child with her forever,”
His gaze met mine, making me shift uncomfortably,” Look, Phoebe, I am sorry. I am sorry I hurt you. I should have waited for my mate but I slept with another woman and conceived a child out of wedlock, but I don’t regret it. Everything that happened that night was out of love,”
He ran his hand on his face, wiping the tears that stained it, “Seeing you anticipate your first shift wounded me with guilt but there was nothing I could do. Someone else possessed what you’ve always wanted, but thank heavens it’s your sister, you can get along with her,”
Get along with that bitch? Really?
“I didn’t mean to dash your hopes, Pheebs. You know I will never hurt you. I wish I can make it up to you,” His moist hands cupped my chin, “No matter what happens, always remember that you are daddy’s princess, daddy’s first love and I will go to any length to please you,”
A soft cry escaped his throat, as his hands clasped together, “Please, forgive me. I know it hurts but please, forgive me and forgive her. Don’t hate her, please, it’s not her fault. Put the blame on me instead,” His cry filled my ears, arousing a fresh swell of rage in me.
Wow!
Nice show!
I Didn’t know my father was a good entertainer. He should try acting sometimes.
Patience. The word echoed in my head, restraining me from doing otherwise.
My hands found his body, lifting it to my level so that my eyes met his, “It’s okay, dad. I understand,” I engulfed him in a bear hug, patting his shoulder gently as a dangerous smirk crept on my face.
So foolish of him to think I had forgiven him.
Forgiveness. Does that word even exist?
“It will be fine,” I whispered to him, wiping the tears that stained his face.
Cry all you want, dad.
Be sober all you want, dad. Nothing will stop me from visiting my old friend.
