“C’mon, he’s not that strong. Give me a break.”, I rolled my eyes, increasing my pace so Dylan wouldn’t be able to keep up but he’s not as sluggish as I thought.
“What do you mean he’s isn’t that strong?!”, he wouldn’t let go of what I said about his favorite anime character while we were in the car. I didn’t intend to piss him off this much. His face was red and he kept yelling.?
“Why can’t I think what I want to think about him? It’s my opinion anyways.”, I said, ignoring the attention we were able to draw already.
“Because we’re talking about Saitama!”, watching anime became a hubby for us ever since our first try out. We always had different opinions and always argued about every little thing. He just doesn’t know how to let go. I can be the same most times but still. “Your opinions are always crap.”, he argued.
I stopped by my locker, opening it and noticing as people around left without thinking twice. I was used to it and didn’t dislike it in the slightest. “Says the guy that thinks meliodas isn’t badass.”, I mumbled, grabbing the books I needed then turning to look at him.
“He’s cute for goodness sake.”
“Yeah, watch him use his cute full counter to end your whole career.”, I said, sarcastically, pushing Dylan a bit by his chest just to get him away from me.
“Oh, what’s this?”, Dylan asked, smirking as he dug his eyes into mine and placed his hand on mine while it was still on his chest. “You seem to get nervous when I stand too close. What’s wrong? You fear I might land a kiss on your fish lips?”, he said with this mystical prince kind of accent. I could tell he was struggling to hold back a laugh when he said fish lips. I don’t know where that came from but I’m pretty sure I don’t have fish lips.
“Yeah, feel free to think what you want, horse head.”, I said, pulling my hand out of his and enjoying the chuckles I’d earned from him.
“Now back to the subject.”, he said, going back to his old annoying tone. He wanted to keep the anime argument going.
Before I could think of what to say to him, the bell rung, earning a sigh from me. “Sorry, nerd, but I have to get going.”, I said, walking out on him then getting pulled back immediately.
“Aww. You really think you can get rid of me that easily? What’s a bell to me?”
“It’s time for classes. I don’t have time to keep arguing pointlessly with you.”
“Shhh darling. Don’t say that, you might hurt my feelings.”
I sighed, pinching the hand he used to hold my wrist so he’d budge.?
He ignored it like it was nothing. I regret cutting my nails. Pathetic.
“You really want to go to class?”, he asked, a bit surprised that I actually care about classes.
“Yes, I don’t want to end up being an empty skul like you.”
“Hey, watch it.”, he said, letting go of my wrist then holding my hand.
“Hmm?”, I watched as he slowly intertwined them before walking and pulling me with him.
“Now everyone’s going to think we’re dating.”, he said, struggling to hold back a chuckle.
“Yeah. So what’s so funny about that?”, I frowned, not caring much, the rumors had gone round a long time ago.
“No one’s gonna want to date you if they know you belong to me.”
“Know? It’s think.”, I corrected him.
“Hmm?”
“I don’t belong to you.”
“What makes you think that?”, he asked, pausing. Part of me questioned if he was still joking or not.
“Hey-“, my throat got tied into a knot when he pulled me to him by my waist out of nowhere. I ended up landing on his chest while his hands remained on my waist.
I let out a low groan, hearing gasps and whispers rise almost immediately. Nothing’s going to convince anyone that we aren’t a thing now.
“Dylan! Ugh”, I groaned, pushing him away getting more annoyed when I saw the smile he had on his face.
I was so used to him flirting from time to time. It’s in his nature. I was used to him pulling stupid pranks too but I didn’t see this one coming.?
“Wow. Your all red. Did that flatter you?”, he whispered, leaning in a bit with he’s hands behind him, enjoying as my annoyance grew.
“Damn.”, I was impressed at his skills to be honest. He always comes up with a new way to hit a nerve. I sighed, stepping back then walking away, hearing his footsteps follow me.
“What was that for?”, I asked, turning to him when he caught up to me.
“Just a sudden urge to have you close to me.”, he shrugged, saying casually.
“You’re so good at this.”, I said, taking my eyes off him and putting them back on my path.
“Good at?”
“Flirting.”, I answered the question. “You say it so naturally, it sounds real. If I didn’t know you any better, I’d take it seriously.”, I smiled for no reason, waiting for his reply but it never came. “Is something wrong?”, I asked, when I glanced and noticed the smile he had no before was gone.
“I don’t know… No?”
It was when we were a few footsteps to my classroom door I realized Dylan wasn’t a classmate of mine.
“Why are you following me?”, I asked, stopping by my classroom’s door.
“So we can spend time together.”, and there came his flirtatious smile.
It really made me happy seeing him smile like that. Any smile that wasn’t fake was okay even the evil one. Part of me was bothered about why his smile died earlier but I didn’t let myself think about it much.
“You really do love me huh.” I joked, expecting him to start denying or get pissed off but instead he shrugged then said, “You’re my best friend after all.” and left, entering my class and leaving me on the spot.
“Have I ever been so happy?”, the question came as a whisper enjoying this feeling of my heart pounding.
That one statement made my life a lot better.
He didn’t deny.
I actually mean something to him.
I didn’t know I actually wanted to hear that.
I felt to relieved. The feeling was new to me.
Another reason to live.
For Dylan.
I had a small smile on my face though my lips were tucked into my mouth while I tried getting used to the feeling.
“Woah!”, I yelled when I felt someone pull me by the back of my shirt into the class. “What the hell!”, I yelled when we got in then turned to see who it was.
“You planning on standing there with that tomato face? You want to miss class?”, Dylan asked.
“Oh” was the short answer I gave, glancing at the grumpy teacher that stood behind him.
“We should have our seat.”, I giggled a bit, holding Dylan’s hand and pulling him to my seat.
What was funny was the teacher’s face. He looked like he was about to explode but he didn’t say anything. Just stand and watch, waiting for when Dylan’s ready to let the class begin.
“Hey Alvin.”, that was the nickname I gave my seat mate. I barely ever bothered him to be honest. He could call me a friend to be honest. I cared so much about him. He’s very lanky, so people tend to pick on him but that all stopped the day I stood up for him. Today’s probably going to be the first time I make him do something he doesn’t want to.
“Avery.”, he smiled, locking eyes with me, making me retreat the mission. No way was I about to bully him. Yes, I barely talk to him but I still cared about him. I knew he’d gone through so much in the past. He was probably bullied through out his life. I didn’t want to make his life more miserable. Who knows if it’s worse than mine. He was the one person that truly understood my pain even though we’ve never actually talked about it.?
“Hold on.” I said to Dylan who was watching Alvin with this confused expression on his face. He looked like a lost puppy for a second before he nodded at me.
I headed for the Olivia’s seat, Alvin’s crush then glanced at the loser that sat next to her.?
Apperently, he’s the most attractive boy in this classroom if Dylan’s not in it. He has a high head but he knows better than to get on my bad side. “Hey Kyle. Heard you’re a bit sick. You should see the nurse.”, I whispered to him.?
He frowned, sighing before standing then heading to the teacher to get permission I leave before leaving.
I didn’t hear anything about him, I just needed him gone. He got the message.
I heard Olivia let out a relieved sigh. I basically just helped her, Kyle’s always made her uncomfortable. God knows what he does when no one’s looking.?
Olivia’s beautiful and too quiet. She’s the type that let people step all over her. They always take advantage of her kindness. Pathetic.
She’s the perfect match for Alvin though. He’ll never hurt her. She’s so nice to him.
I hope they end up as mates.
I walked up to Alvin when he was gone. “Hey. Take Kyle’s seat please.”
He glanced at the empty seat beside Olivia then glanced at me, then at Olivia again.
“Just go dimwit.”, I rolled my eyes as he let out a light chuckle before standing up.?
“You care about me. Thanks.”, he whispered as he left.
Dylan’s eyes followed him then went back to me before he sat. I sat beside him then class started. I noticed Dylan kept glancing at Alvin. He was probably confused as hell. I’d never told him there was a guy I look out for.
I’ve never told him anything important. We’ve never even talked about my dad. That day I went to his house, barely alive. He didn’t ask what happened.
All that was about to change though. Now I trusted him.
“Hey Dylan.”, I whispered, earning his eyes on mine. “You’re my best friend.”
