Chapter 6 Finally

Book:The Last Luna Published:2024-5-1

Dylan’s POV
My stomach spun, seeing her reaction. At the moment, she was sitting by the edge of the bed with me squatting infront of her, now holding her two legs. She wasn’t looking at me in the eye, she was blushing but wasn’t smiling and her grip on my hand got loose.
I needed her to say something. The silence was killing me but I had no regrets of telling her. Keeping those feelings to myself felt worse.
She tucked her lips in, making small movements I couldn’t understand. “Avery” I called her name, rushing her to give a response.
“I… Uhh… III…” she couldn’t say proper words but I got the message. She was going to reject me.
It didn’t come as a shock to me though. I always felt that Avery returning my feelings would be nothing but a fantasy.
I forced a smile to lighten the mood, “Calm down… You don’t have to say words to reject me” I chuckled a bit, seeing how much she was shaking. Why so nervous “I saw it coming anyways… I don’t need you to love me back” that over there was a lie. I’ll always love her but knowing she doesn’t feel the same. That’s another level of pain I’m not ready to endure.
She still didn’t say anything.
Her silence made me start questioning my decisions.
Was it really a good idea confessing out of nowhere. You idiot , I schooled myself.
“I’ll… Leave you now” I said, having enough of the silence. I began standing up but Avery pushed me back to my former position.
Her sudden action gave me hope.
I grinned thinking she was about to kiss me or something but it dies when I saw her face. She looked scared.
What’s the problem?
“Do you feel the same?” I whispered, leaning in to capture every feature of her face. She looked adorable, especially in situations like this when she’s blushing. It really makes me loose my senses. Literally.
She looked down at her feet, pouting like she was about to force herself to saying m say something the next second but nothing came out.
I couldn’t help but smile.
I’ve never seen her so shy.
I tilted her head by her chin, making her gaze meet mine. I had no idea what I was doing.
My other hand slipped down here arm, holding her hand at the edge. Now she had her eyes sinking into mine. Her lips parted, she was about to say something. “Dyl-” before she could say anything. I had my lips on hers. She didn’t seem to welcome it though.
She pushed me away slowly, grabbing the bedsheets and squeezing with a stressed expression in her face.
That’s when I truly experienced true instant regret. I felt like I had just ruined everything with that one, mindless action.
She was panting.
She’s panicking.
“I’m sorry” I apologized immediately, getting up faster now “I shouldn’t have… Done that… I guess.” I said, confusion filling my tone. Part of me didn’t regret kissing her. Part of me was ready to go again. That was something I’ve wanted for years.
That one second with my lips on hers… It was magical
I glanced at her. She was watching me like a movie. She looked worried. It pained me. I looked away, waving, heading for the door, leaving.
“Wow… Just wow. Sly move Mr. Romeo!” My wolf teased me as soon as I got to the room.
I ignored him, sitting on my bed and reflecting on what just happened.
What’s she thinking now?
I groaned, running my hand through my hair.
I don’t think things are gonna be the same after this.
Flashback
I was eight.
“Dylan… Avery’s coming over today. Be nice” my dad pat my head.
“No dad! Why does she keep coming over! Doesn’t she have a home” I whined.
The door bell rung.
My dad ignored me and went to get it.
I frowned knowing it was that Avery girl.
“YOU ALWAYS IGNORE ME FOR HER!” I yelled.
She’s stealing MY dad and she has her own.
Why’s she so greedy.
I followed my dad to the door.
He opened it then immediately, Avery fell on his hands.
“Ughhhhh. You’re such a faker!” I yelled.
My dad shot me a glare.
“C’mon you actually believe this?” I rolled my eyes then leaned in to see her.
She had blood everywhere and was panting.
I gasped.
“M… d.. a” she shouldn’t even say anything.
I ran to get water.
While running back I slipped.
The glass cup broke and I fell on it.
I ignored the injuries I got, getting up immediately and running back to get more water.
I headed for her as soon as I got it, putting the cup in her mouth.
My dad smiled.
She starred at me without drinking.
“Drink up silly.” I frowned “Didn’t fall on broken glass pieces for nothing.”
She drank up
My dad carried her to her room and dropped her in her bed “I’ll be back”
She sat up immediately “I’m good now” she grinned.
My jaw dropped “you faker” I tried growling like my dad does when he’s angry but I sounded like I was holding in poop so I just stopped.
“She wasn’t faking. She heals quickly” my dad stood up for her.
“Why can’t I do that?” I pouted.
“Wait till you’re sixteen” dad said then left.
I turned my attention to Avery
“Thanks for the water” she smiled.
“Whatever”
She sat up “Can we be friends?”
“No. Eww”
“Am I eww?”
“No you’re cute” I quickly corrected her.
“Oh gollie” she blushed “You’re cute too”
“I know right” I grinned.
She rolled her eyes “I take it back”
I giggled a bit then stretched out my hand “Friends?”
She pulled me in for a hug “Best friends”
I smiled then hugged back.
Flashback over
I snapped out of my trance when Avery walked through the door. I frowned. “You never knock”
“Whoops” she faked a laugh.
I could see how nervous she was.
The place went dead silent.
I smiled when I noticed she was wearing my shirt. I would’ve complemented it if I wasn’t in such a bad position.
“I’m so sorry” we broke the silence at the same time then paused, looked at each other, then smiled.
It was quiet again.
She starred at me with a smile plastered on her face. I starred back, frowning. She was tearing up and still smiling. Who’s she trying to fool?
“Heyyy…” I trailed, standing up and walking up to her. “Stop thinking about it. Its not gonna happen again” I promised, squeezing her cheek to lighten up her mood.
“I shouldn’t say it” she said closing her eyes. “I really shouldn’t say it but-” she stopped, letting a tear fall. “I’m so in love with you Dylan”
I let out the breath I didn’t even know I was holding till she said it. I felt lighter, like a burden had been lifted.
“Then what’s the problem?” I smiled.
“We… we might not be mates” she sobbed as I wiped her tear.
“So?” I rose an eyebrow. I never saw that as a problem.
I’ve given it thought more than a billion times. Called me selfish but that’s not my problem. A mate that’s not Avery is not my mate and I’ll not hesitate to reject her.
“You can’t reject your Luna Dylan” she frowned.
I cupped her cheeks “You’re my Luna, Avery” I smiled.
“No she’s not” my wolf whispered.
“DON’T RUIN THE MOMENT”
I’ll argue with my wolf later.
She opened her mouth to protest but I shut her up.
“Please don’t give me a heart ache trying to make me believe you might not be my mate. I love you and the moon goddesses can see that. They wouldn’t ruin everything by pairing me with someone else”
Avery shut up, lost in thoughts while ideas made its way back to my head.
Kiss her maybe?
I had my eyes on her lips but I had no plans on making any moves. Not after last time’s trauma.
Her lips made a slight shift when she noticed where my eyes were at.
My eyes met hers again. I had to smile to hide my embarrassment a bit.
She stretched her hand, softly planting it in my cheek. She maintained eye contact with me while holding a somewhat nervous look on her face.
My heart froze when she began leaning in.
Was she about to-
She planted a soft kiss on my lips, sending shivers down my spine.
I smiled as her lips pressed against mine, making slow shy movements.
I closed my eyes, gently grabbing her by the waist and pulling her to me, not wanting any space between us.
I deepened the kiss, the sound her heavy breathes took my mind to the gutters.
I bite her lower lip slightly, making her gasp and granting my tongue entrance into her mouth.
She realized light moans and my tongue explored her mouth, making me want more of her.
I found myself pulling her closer like we weren’t close enough. Her moans got heavier when I abandoned her lips and go for her neck, planting soft kiss and inhaling her scent. I felt intoxicated.
I planted hickeys on her, whispering “I love you” loud enough for her to hear it.
Moments when she’d giggle brought a weird sort of joy to me.
“I love you too” she whispered, leaning back and kissing me again, this time much slower. I felt I was floating as our lips moved in sync. She had learnt our pattern perfectly.
