Axel White was staring at her with a satisfied smile on his face.
“You thought I wouldn’t find you, right?”
Emma looked away from him and saw Andres’s body on the floor, blood flowing from a large wound on his chest. His heart had been ripped out and placed next to his body.
“You didn’t have to kill him,” she said, feeling sad. This was exactly what she had wanted to avoid by leaving Andres. Unfortunately, his life had been cut short because of her. “You’re a terrible person, Axel White, and I will never be yours.”
Axel chuckled. Suddenly, the door opened and a man walked in. when Axel turned to see the man, Emma turned and ran to the nearest room. She opened the door and went towards the window. When she threw it open, she was met by a gust of cool air. Emma grabbed her dress and jumped to the ground. She could hear footsteps drawing near.
When she reached the back gate, she darted out and headed towards the wooded area which was not very far away. She had to pass by five houses to get there. She used her super speed, passing by a man who stared at her with wide eyes. The trees welcomed her under the shade and she ran as fast as her legs could carry her. The forest was mainly quiet, the only noise coming from her footsteps as she hit the ground.
She could hear her pursuers drawing closer to her, gaining ground quickly. Her heart began to pump faster and she started to feel a little breathless. Emma knew that if she didn’t find a hiding place, Axel and his men would soon catch up with her. She regretted not going to the front and taking the car instead, but then remembered that she didn’t even know where the keys were. Even If she had gone towards the town, she was sure Axel was the kind of person who was not afraid of killing her in the middle of a busy street.
As her pursuers drew closer, Emma began to run faster. The forest was becoming thicker as she went deeper into it. She figured it was best to change direction because she didn’t want to end up stuck with Axel and his men alone. Right before she turned, a figure appeared in front of her. She started to turn but it was too late. The man charged on her, toppling her to the ground. Emma punished and bit him but he didn’t let go of her.
Axel and another man stopped near them. “Finally,” Axel said. “You’re quite a runner, Emma Greenfield. I almost gave up.”
The man on top of her got up. Emma stood up and glared at Axel. “Look at you. I wish people knew that you needed to other men in order to catch a little girl. They’d not be so afraid of you. You’re not as great as they think, Axel White.” Emma laughed. “And you two fools. How can you work for such a weak alpha? You’re both better than him. Why do you let him order you around?”
Axel stepped closer and grabbed Emma by the neck. “Stop this nonsense right now. I regret not killing you with that stupid boyfriend of yours. Today will be the end of you, Emma Greenfield.”
He let go of her.
“So what are you waiting for? Kill me now.”
“I can’t. There’s things I want to do to you before I end you. You’re way too beautiful and that makes it very hard to let go of you. The problem is that you’re a curse. Everyone who gets close to you dies. Your boyfriend, Richard and now that innocent human. Soon even Bradford might die if he’s not careful.”
“Leave Lucius alone. Kill me if you want.”
“I’ll do it, but after making you suffer. You are such a troublemaker. I never thought it would be so hard to catch such a small girl but you have taught me never to underestimate anyone. Now strip.”
Emma was scared but she chuckled in order to hide her fear from Axel who probably wanted to see it. “You’ll have to take off my clothes by force.”
“Why do you always make things so hard?”
“Strip her,” Axel said to his men. They started walking towards her while she screamed out loud and started running. This time she was not very lucky. They caught her before she could go far. She struggled as they stripped her. Suddenly, one of them fell. As Emma looked around to figure out why, the other one fell. She saw a very thin arrow stuck on his back. The area around his skin was turning greenish. Poison. She grabbed the remnants of her torn dress and started to run.
“Not so fast,” Axel said, heading towards her. He started shooting his gun around and managed to shoot Emma’s leg. The silver bullet caused great pain in her leg but Emma did not stop. When she thought she was at a safe distance, she looked back and saw a man stabbing Axel with a stake.
Human hunters? She wondered as she ran faster. “Oh hell.”
She could hear Axel groaning as life seeped out of him. Suddenly, two men came from some shrubs and started going after Emma. When she looked back, she didn’t see a tree trunk on the path. She fell over it and hit her head on a rock. Emma gritted her teeth as she tried to pull herself to standing position.
The men caught up with her and she decided to just sit down. Had they wanted to kill her, they would have done so by now. She didn’t understand why they would kill Axel and his men then save her. She looked at the men again. She had never seen them.
“Who are you?”
One of the men crouched down and pulled the silver bullet from her sheen. The pain that had been spreading all over her leg subsided.
“Thank you,” she said to her new captors, not knowing if they were friends or foes.
