My enemy’s enemy

Michelle pulled out the band holding her hair up and let the waves fall down her back. The sun had set and the long day was finally over for her. All day, she had been working tirelessly for Jenezel who had turned out to be very demanding. Michelle had been on her feet since morning, cooking, cleaning and attending to the older woman’s other needs. Her muscles were aching and her feet hurt from moving around so much.
This is not what a luna should be doing, Michelle thought as she walked out of Jenezel’s house which was about five hundred metres away from the pack’s main household. Not everyone belonging to Summit pack lived near the pack house. Those who trusted their abilities to protect themselves and wanted more freedom and privacy lived as far as they wanted. Jenezel was one of them. She had a small two storied house which she shared with her husband.
Instead of training Michelle how to be a luna which she had already done before, Jenezel had decided to use Michelle as her maid while lying to the elders about everything. In order to prevent more problems, Michelle had decided to go along with the woman’s crazy plan. But she couldn’t wait for the week to be over. Once she was back to her official duties, she planned to use her power to destroy Jenezel and make her pay for treating her like a maid.
There was a guard waiting for her. He was the one who always escorted her back to the pack house after a day’s work. As she followed the man, she couldn’t help but feel a strong sense of resentment towards Jenezel.
“What do you think of Jenezel?” she asked the man.
He didn’t say anything but continued walking like he had not heard her. Michelle sighed.
“Okay, do you think most people like her?”
“I think people like her more than they like you,” the man finally replied. “If you’re thinking of doing something to her, I’d advise you to forget it. Jenezel is stronger than you think and under the protection of very powerful people around here. It could never end well for you.”
“So I have to bear with the abuse and never do anything.”
“You’re being taught lessons you need to learn.”
Within seconds, Michelle had lunged at the man but he pushed her off easily.
“One of the lessons is self-control and knowing that you’re not better than anyone else but it seems you’re not learning anything.”
Michelle decided to ignore him this time, having realised that he was not easy to defeat despite his small frame. When they reached the household, they separated. The man went towards the garden while Michelle went into the pack house. When she got to the top floor, she found her Janet one of her few friends standing by the door.
“What are you doing here?” she asked.
“Is that the way to great you’re only true friend around here?”
Michelle sighed, feeling drained. “I’m exhausted. Cut the crap and tell me what you came for.”
“Give me your key,” Janet said. Michelle tossed it to her. Janet opened the door and they entered the living room. Michelle collapsed on to the couch. She had never felt so exhausted in her entire life. She couldn’t imagine how she was going to find strength to leave the couch to go and take a shower. She needed rest, badly. But first, she wanted to know what Janet couldn’t wait to tell her. She knew the girl like the back of her hand. She could tell when Janet wanted to say something.
“Okay, spill.”
“I have the best news for you.”
“Just tell me what happened.”
“Axel White is out!”
“What?” Michelle said, suddenly feeling strengthened. “Axel White, Emma Greenfield’s worst nightmare is out!”
“Yes, yes.”
“Oh my goodness, this is the best news I’ve heard all day.”
“Lower your voice,” her friend warned, glancing at the door. She stood up and went to sit next to Michelle so they could talk in lowered tones.
“This is what I needed. i thought my week was going to be terrible but now I don’t care if I spend it slaving. There will be a light at the end of the tunnel. I will ally with Axel in order to get rid of Emma Greenfield. I’m pretty sure he can’t wait to get his hands on her and finished her off. You’re the best, Janet. If I wasn’t so tired, I’d hug you. That old hag is wearing me out. Come to think of it, Axel can help me get rid of her as well.”
“If the alpha gets stubborn, Axel can put him in line as well.” Janet whispered.
Michelle’s eyes widened and she smiled. “I hadn’t even thought of that. I love this. Now I can easily pretend to be good because I have some hope for a better life. It will be easy to fool Jenezel and the elders. Hell, even if they don’t allow me to get back to my duties, I can still work with Axel to mess things up. These people are going to regret treating me like this.”
“I’m going to help you with whatever you need,” Janet said.
“First of all, we need to find a way of contacting Axel and presenting our offer to him. Since you work in town, you can be on the lookout for his people. In case you see one, talk to them. I need to reach him as soon as possible.”
“Okay,” Janet said.
“Now I’m very exhausted and I would like to rest for a while. Can we talk later?”
“Of course,” Janet stood up. “See you later, my friend.”
A few minutes later, Michelle heard a shriek from outside but she didn’t bother to get up as she was too tired. She hoped her friend was fine. A minute later, Lucius entered. Michelle started to panic, wondering if he had heard their conversation. Lucius didn’t say anything but went past her and into the bedroom. Michelle wanted to yell at him the way she always did. She decided to pretend to be changing. The best kind of revenge is the unexpected one.
