Casey took an antidote for the herb that had taken made her powers dormant. Her powers returned fully a few minutes after that. She used them to cloak her house and make it invisible. If the vampires came looking for her, they would only see a bush around and wouldn’t be able to see the house and its occupants. They wouldn’t even know where exactly it was.
The pregnant woman was very tired so she slept almost as soon as they arrived. Casey and Emma went to sit on the porch. They talked as they took some drinks.
“You’re a hero, Casey. What you did today, saving all of us, was epic. You’re the reason we have powers, to use them for good. Some of us only use our powers to save ourselves but you saved everyone, including the woman who mocked us.”
“It was fairly easy,” Casey said. “Don’t act like I saved the world.”
“But you did. Those women had been there for weeks and were just waiting to die but you took them out of there and gave them a chance to live again. You’re so amazing and I’m mighty glad I met someone like you.”
“Okay, okay. Enough with the praises. You’re making me uncomfortable. What are we going to do with the woman? Almede is not going to give up on that child. He’s going to look for her.”
Emma sighed. “I have no idea what we can do. I can’t take her to Summit pack. I already made them an enemy and I can’t add more. If axel gets out of jail, he’s gonna go for them.”
“So, you’re leaving her with me?”
“No, why don’t we go to her pack and speak to someone. Maybe they won’t mind it. I can’t think of another solution.”
“I guess you’re right. We’ll ask her when she wakes up.”
“I don’t want to go back to my pack.”
Emma and Casey turned to see the woman standing at the door. “If I had money, I’d just travel. I want to go to Europe and start a new life there but I guess that can’t happen because I have no money.”
“Is there anyone you trust at home? Anyone who can give you money?”
The woman sighed. “Yes, my sister. She could be able to get my savings.”
“That’s good then,” Casey concluded. “We’ll go and find her.”
Casey and Emma spent the afternoon traveling to Jane’s pack. It was an hour’s drive away from Casey’s house. Jane’s family did not live in the pack house but in a cottage two hundred metres from there. They did not find Jane’s sister, only her mother. Since they couldn’t go and return, they told the woman everything. The woman was very understanding. She got some money, documents and personal effects from the house and they all travelled back together.
Once Jane was reunited with her mother, she was not their responsibility anymore. Casey and Emma were happy about that. Jane’s mother called another relative of theirs who came and picked them up in her car. When they were gone, Casey and Emma toured the property. In the evening, some vampire guards came around. They couldn’t see the house but a vast farmland. They roamed around, confusion etched on their faces. After some time, they decided to leave.
“We have to leave,” Casey told Emma. “Take me with you. I need to disappear for a few days. Almede is going to contact Davey, the warlock I told you about. Davey is a warlock and might figure out how to undo my spell.”
“I’m not even sure they will be willing to accept me back there.”
“It’s alright. Let’s just go to a nearby town. If you’re turned away, you will have a friend to lean on. I need to be away from places where people know me.”
“Alright.”
Casey packed up all the important things in her house i. e money, documents and her most valuable clothes and accessories. She placed another spell over the house and hoped that Davey wouldn’t find it. They loaded everything in the car and left the town.
They reached Fernville at around seven pm. It was already dark and the small town was illuminated by a few street lights. They checked into a motel, staying in different rooms. Since she was very close to Lucius’ pack, Emma felt restless. She had not realised how much she liked the man before. Now that she was sure she wanted him, she was worried about rejection. If he turned her away, she had nowhere to go. Emma could barely sleep that night.
The next morning, she rose up early. She showered and went to tell Casey that she was going to go for a run.
“It’s very cold,” Casey told her. “Or wait, you’re going to spy on your man. You sneaky bitch.”
Emma laughed nervously. “Not really. Why would you think that?”
“There’s no point in denying it. You are dying to see the man.”
“Well, you caught me. Can you help me do an invisibility spell? I don’t want anyone to see me lurking around the border.”
“No, I won’t do that.”
“Why not?”
“I want you to be seen so he can take you back,” Casey said. “If you hide, you may get too cowardly to return when the spell has worn off. In fact,” Casey went to open her suitcase. “I think you need some makeup. We can’t have you looking like a troll when Lucius sees you.”
Casey helped her create a natural make-up look. Emma looked like she barely had any make-up yet she did. It was cold outside. Emma breathed in the chilly air and hugged herself as she walked towards the road. She crossed it and went into the forest which was on the other side. She ran up the path she had used to run away.
Twenty minutes later, she found herself at the spot where she and Lucius had last met each other. She saw some guards ahead and hid behind a tree. After staying in that position for a long time, she decided to leave the area. That was when she bumped into a rock hard body.
