Ridian.
“Rose! Ren!” Cilla yelled, while running around the forest with tears streaming down her face. I followed her, begging her to stop for a moment but she couldn’t. She continued running further and further from me. When she finally stopped, she dropped to the ground.
“I can’t believe we did everything for nothing,” she said. “You were right. We shouldn’t have wasted time going to the prison. Why did I have to think of such a stupid plan? Now, Jane is dead and I’m the one suffering. What kind of stupid revenge is this? I messed up, Ridian. I’m so stupid.”
“No, you’re not.” I told her. “We’re going to find them. I’m sure they’ve run off somewhere. Suddenly, I felt something hit me from the back. “Run, Cilla. I’ve been shot.”
Cilla Rose and came behind me, pulling out the arrow quickly. We both turned instantly and started running. We ran until we were out of the forest. George and his human friend were also nowhere to be seen.
“What is happening?” Cilla asked. When we got into a city, we hid behind a building before jumping on top of it. We lay on the rooftop and watched the people below look around in confusion as they tried to find us. It was clear they were human hunters because they failed to find us. After a while, they started walking away. We stayed up there for half an hour before deciding it was safe to leave.
“Do you think we’ll find them?” Cilla asked me.
“I trust the warriors,” I told her. I had selected some of the best warriors I had, whose capabilities I had been assessing for years. If we could survive those lazy hunters, I was pretty sure any good fighter could. “I think they’re safe somewhere.”
“We’re okay,” someone said through mind link.
“Did you get that, too?” Cilla asked, staring at me. I nodded. She threw herself on me and I wound my arms around her. I could feel her body relaxing against mine. Pulling away, I captured her lips in a warm kiss.
“Have you ever done it on the rooftop?” I inquired. Her naked body was making me feel all hot and bothered.
Cilla chuckled. “You know I haven’t, and I would like to, but now is not the time. Let’s find the twins and I’ll think about it.”
“You’re so mean, baby.” I said.
She smiled further. “I know.”
I had a conversation with the warrior who had reached out to us. We later found out that hunters lived in the forest. It was a forest used to lure werewolves before hunting them down. Apparently, the person who grew it was a hunter who disliked werewolves and vampires. There was an uptown club that was used to lure vampires looking for a good time as well.
Apparently, they had reached at the meeting point at the same time. The warriors with the kids had stopped in a gas station to buy some snacks and necessities for the kids while they eased themselves. After both cars stopping at the forest, they got out to wait for us from outside since it was a hot night. Only the kids had been left inside. They heard only been there for two minutes when the shooting started. They grabbed the kids and ran off. Now they were staying the night in some dingy motel.
Cilla couldn’t wait one more minute without seeing her siblings so we got off the rooftop, stole some clothes from one of the balconies in the building and wore them before looking for the motel in question. We managed to steal a big van and informed the others to get ready. We tried to communicate to George but he was unreachable. I didn’t worry so much because I knew he could take care of himself and his human friend.
As soon as we reached the motel, everyone piled into the van. Cilla went to the back and hugged her siblings and they all cried together, making everyone a little bit emotional. I looked back and she smiled at me. I felt my heart warm up at the sight of her and the kids. Now, our family was complete again. I was happy that Cilla would soon go back to herself now that the twins were back in her life. Losing them had been a terrible blow and I didn’t want anything like that to ever happen again.
We were already out of Everdeen when George communicated to me. He told me he had already found a car and wanted to seek my permission to let him bring the human girl with him since she had nowhere to go. I didn’t trust humans but I was not in the mood to argue so I assented, hoping I would never regret the decision.
Eventually, the children fell asleep while we continued with the ride. After two hours, I went behind the wheel to allow the driver rest. We reached the pack territory at daybreak. Day light had already set in as we settled in. a number of pack members including Camilla, my mother and Cara came down to welcome us back. We took the kids to our suite and put them in the guest room. Cilla ended up sleeping with them.
Since it was already morning, I couldn’t go to sleep. I was not that tired. It took more than missing a night’s sleep to put me down. I turned on the TV, only to see a breaking news sash on the screen of my favorite TV station.
The news was about us, people clad in ski masks and dark clothing that had kidnapped the Markle kids and murdered the suspect in the kidnapping case. I saw the footage of us jumping over the fence while we entered. There was no footage of us jumping over it in our werewolf form when we left. It was clear to me that humans were smarter than they seemed. It was only a matter of time before they found all our pack hideouts and wiped us off the face of the earth.
If it wasn’t for the witches spells protecting some of our packs from being seen or accessed by humans, they would have killed us all. I remembered that my witch didn’t like my luna and I needed to get a new one. I pulled out my phone and dialed a certain number.
As the number was going through, I saw a policeman interviewing the lady who had sold us the costumes.
“Sh! t.”
I could only hope the disguises had worked.
