Ridian.
“The luna has been shot and is in a dangerous condition,” Kenny said to me. He was one of the warriors I had sent on an undercover mission to watch over Cilla.
“What happened?” I asked.
“She had gone for a tour in the woods. She was shot with a poisoned stake and is currently being treated by the healer. He thinks the stake had both wolfs bane and an unknown poison which is why the injury is very dangerous. She doesn’t look too good, her condition keeps worsening by the minute and it has not yet been established which poison was used on her. We can’t transport her in this condition so if you can, please come.”
“What the hell were you doing when she was being shot?” I asked, feeling angry and scared at the same time.
“I’m sorry, alpha. I was trailing them but had to stay a bit behind since I didn’t want to get noticed. I managed to grab her from the friend who was with her, and take her to the healer in time. This will never happen again.”
“You’re right. This will never happen again because I will not leave you in charge of my wife again. Get back to where she is and continue updating me. Tell them to do whatever they can to save my wife. I’m coming over right now.”
I hurried out of my office and called three men from their posts near the pack house. I passed by my truck and led them to the woods. My wolf was faster than the car so I decided to use it. I commanded my men to turn and then followed suit. It barely took a second for me to wolf out and start running. The other wolves followed me as we tore through the dense forest.
When we arrived at moonshine pack, I tried as much as possible to sense Cilla’s scent but couldn’t. I headed straight to the healer’s shack near the edge of the pack. I was stunned to find it abandoned and closed. Breaking the door, I made my way in.
I tried to link with Kenny but he was unreachable. It seemed he was in a place blocked by witch magic. I grabbed a crystal in the healers hut and tossed it against the wall, shattering it into several tiny pieces. “Where are they?”
The men with me looked down, not knowing what to say. I stepped out of the hut and stood outside. Closing my eyes, I focused on using my hearing and smelling senses. I caught a whiff of Cilla’s scent trail and started to follow it, taking large strides. I had not gone far when I realised it led to crystal pack. I couldn’t stop myself from running all the way to crystal pack. We met some warriors who tried to stop us and I beat all of them before continuing. I fought everyone who tried to stand in my way of getting to Cilla. As we passed by the pack house, some pack members tried to attack us but I beat them to a pulp before continuing.
We came to a two storied cottage surrounded by overgrown vegetation. I could sense very strong magic and knew that Cilla was with witches. as I got closer, I started to feel her pain. It was excruciating, it made me break down the door because I couldn’t wait anymore.
A group of five witches turned to look at me, disgust written on their faces. The healer of moonshine pack was seated near my wife. Kenny was in the corner of the room with two young men I didn’t know.
“You should not be here.”
“The hell. That’s my wife.” I ran to where she was. She was lying on a bed looking very frail. Her forehead was slick with sweat and her eyes closed. When I touched her hand, she opened her eyes and closed them almost immediately.
“She has no strength,” a tall woman with braided black hair said.
“Will she be okay?”
“I don’t know.”
I wanted to yell at her, and ask her who was supposed to know but I decided to be polite. It seemed the werewolf healer at moonshine pack had failed so they brought her to crystal pack which housed a coven of witches.
“Is it proper to treat her in a room with so many people?” I asked.
The woman shook her head. “No, but we couldn’t get them to leave.”
“All of you, get out of here.” I said to Kenny and those with him.
“Beta Adam instructed us not to leave.” One of them said.
“And who the hell is beta Adam?”
“That would be me,” a new voice said. I turned and saw a man standing at the door with an annoyed look on his face. “You can now leave,” he told his men.
It was almost like he was in a hurry to order them so I wouldn’t. It was good that the man was intimidated by me. He had probably heard what I did to those who tried to stop me.
“Do you know which poison was mixed with the wolf’s bane?” I asked the witches.
“We are not very sure,” she said. “We have a store room that acts like a lab. Sophie is in there trying to run some tests. We will have answers in a few minutes, hopefully. Meanwhile, you can both take seats as you wait.”
“Thank you,” I said, taking a seat.
“You don’t have to be here,” beta Adam said. “Mrs. Jamison is in good hands. Please come with me and have some coffee. I’m sure you need it after the long run.”
I shook my head. “Thank you but I’m alright.”
“Please come. It won’t take long. Besides, your wife is sleeping so there’s no need for you to stay here. These ladies are very good at what they do. That’s why Massimo decided to bring her when he failed. It’s a pity Aragon hates witches so much. Maybe Cilla would have been better if she had received their attention early enough.”
“I believe they’re amazing but I really don’t feel like going anywhere. Thanks again.”
I was not about to leave Cilla on her own again. Doing that is what had led to the mess we were in.
“Alpha Ridian.”
Within seconds, I was standing in front of him. I grabbed his collar and held it tight. “What are you up to?”
“Nothing,” he said, struggling to worm his way out of my grip.
“Are you working with Aragon? Do you want to finish off my wife?”
He shook his head, but I could see the deception in his eyes. The man couldn’t be trusted.
I snapped his neck, and let his body fall to the ground before grabbing my sick wife and striding out of there.
“Sir, that’s not safe.” Kenny yelled when I reached outside and ran past them. He and the three men I had travelled with followed me. I ran to the pack house with Cilla in my arms and got into the back of a truck I had seen outside. Jim, one of the men I came with got into the driver’s seat and started driving away.
I held my luna in my arms and prayed she would be fine despite the risk I was taking.
