Jane’s POV
It had been a month since Ridian decided to embarrass me in front of the whole pack by loving up that silly slave. He had not made any move to chase me from the pack. I was surprised that he thought I was going to be silent and not cause any trouble.
I had gone off for a few days with some beta who turned out to be utterly useless, prompting me to return to the pack. Thankfully, I was still accepted back when I begged for forgiveness.
Ridian thought I was going to let go of our love, and forget the whole thing. Maybe, I could have, if I had not turned into a laughing stock. Everyone made fun of me and at one point I thought of running away from the pack. Again I was going to do it as soon as I found a good place to go to, but only after getting my revenge. I had suffered way too much humiliation to leave quietly, like a defeated animal.
Jamilla, the pack witch was picking some herbs near the boundary. She was wearing a dark blue dress and a black cloak. Just like everyone else in the pack, she had accepted Cilla as the new Luna. However, I could tell that she didn’t like her.
“I’m not interested in your company,” she said.
So many people had been rejecting me so I had become desensitized to it. It didn’t hurt as much as the first time someone had turned me away.
“You’ll be interested after you hear what I have to say,” I told her.
She stood up and stared at me. “I know no one wants to talk to you but I’m not the one who’s going to be your last resort. Better find someone else who is interested in entertaining your nonsense.”
“I know you don’t like Cilla,” I told her.
“And so? She is the Luna. The moon goddess chose her to lead this pack. I respect that.”
I rolled my eyes. “Werewolves have to respect her because she is the chosen one. Because they are loyal to the pack, they have to be loyal to her. You’re not a werewolf, you can’t be loyal to her by default.”
Jamilla chuckled. “I know what you’re doing. You’re trying to make me resent her so that I can join you in whatever you’re planning, but it won’t happen. I don’t like drama.””
Her refusal was expected, but I knew I could change her mind with time. She was one of the elements keeping the pack safe, and if I moved her to my side, I could easily destroy everything in the pack. All I had was to convince her, offer her something better than being Ridian’s little witch.
“I know you don’t want to be at a wolf’s beck and call. Your like Ridian’s little slave, always doing his bidding. Witches are meant to be free, and should not be ordered around by wolves and vampires.”
Jamilla sighed and started walking away without a word. That was a sign that I had hit a nerve. Jamila was not technically free since she had to answer to Ridian. If I could find her a way out, she’d definitely help me. I stood there for a while after she was gone.
After thinking for a while, I realised that I had taken a big risk. If Jamilla wanted, she could report me and I’d be in a lot of trouble. I decided I wasn’t going to approach anyone like that again. a few minutes later, I got an idea.
I returned to my quarters and took a shower before making myself look presentable. When I was done, I headed to the main house and knocked at a certain door.
“Come in,” the voice on the other side said lazily.
I reached out and turned the door handle. Opening it, I stepped inside.
Brody Jamison was lying on the couch. He was wearing a black shirt and shorts while reading a magazine. He turned his head and looked at me.
“What do you want?” he said, sitting up.
I smiled, staring directly at him. “Hi Brody,” I said, before sitting down. He narrowed his eyes. “How are you doing?”
“What do you want?”
“Don’t be so cold,” I said. “Your brother is happy now. You don’t have to hate me for what I did to him a long time ago. Actually, you should be thanking me for leaving him so he could be with his destined soulmate. He would never have been happy with me.”
“So, you’re saying that you don’t want him anymore?”
I nodded.
“And you expect me to believe you.”
I sighed. “I know it’s hard to believe, but I had to accept the truth that Ridian and I can’t be together. He has to be with the one the goddess chose for him. Because of that, I have set my eyes elsewhere.”
Brody smiled, tilting his head. “Come closer.”
Smiling, I stood up and went to sit next to him. I was going to use him to get what I wanted. I knew that Brody craved power like any other man. If I could get close enough, I knew I could turn him against his brother even if he didn’t go against Ridian, being close to the royal family was going to be very helpful to me. I could destroy the pack from the inside.
I had not thought it would be that easy to get him to fall for my charms but I liked how things were going.
“You’re so beautiful,” he said. “I don’t understand why my brother would prefer that ex slave to you. But then again, I’m the one with the brains in this family.”
His hand found its way to my thigh and I let out a low moan. “That’s true. You’re so much smarter than he is.”
“I know,” he said and cupped my face before pulling me closer to him. Brody’s kiss was different from Ridian. While Ridian started off slow and gained momentum, Brody was fast and hurried. It was definitely less enjoyable but I knew I didn’t have to deal with it for long. If things worked out according to plan, I was going to have my amazing Ridian back.
Without warning, Brody tore open my top. I nearly screamed, my hand flew to my mouth to block out any sound.
