The rejection

Book:The Alpha's Enslaved Mate Published:2024-6-3

Alpha Ridian rejected the food so Cara and I had to return it to the kitchen where I was scolded thoroughly by Agnes and Mary who had to start cooking afresh. The alpha wouldn’t touch anything because according to him it had been accompanied by my vomit. What a jerk.
“I know what’s going on?” Cara said, turning on the water. A hissing noise spread all over the kitchen. “You felt a lot of pain in there, when alpha and Janice were having sex. That means only one thing.”
“Don’t say it, please.” I told Cara. I did not want to get into any more trouble that I was already. If Ridian had not told anyone about me, it was because he didn’t want anyone to know I was his mate. I couldn’t spill the beans, or he would reject me. I was not yet sure I didn’t want him so I couldn’t bring myself to do it.
“Oh my goodness,” Mary said. “Is that really true?”
“We will not tell anyone,” Cara said.
“No, it’s not true. Please drop this subject, ok.”
“Now I get why you said you knew why he requested for you.”
I sighed. It was pointless arguing with them when they had already figured everything out. I just hoped the alpha would not get to know of it. The day passed without any more drama. I was assigned a tiny room in one of the houses nearby. I didn’t sleep so well due to all the worries I had. Cara had ended up serving the alpha alone, but she had told me the next morning would be my turn. How could I sleep, when I knew I was about to face him again. Other than yelling at me, he had not said much.
As much as I did not want, morning finally came. I dragged myself out of bed and took a shower. Thanks to my nature, the wounds on my back had already healed. Cara give me three pairs of new uniforms that I was extremely grateful for. Now I did not have to wash every day, but once in a week. When I was fully ready, I went to the main house. My heart was thumping at an incredible speed as I walked through the door. Sweat was pooling up in almost every part of my body, which made me even more nervous. I didn’t think alpha Ridian would appreciate being served breakfast by a sweaty person.
I calmed down when I reached the kitchen. Cara was piling up necessary items on the trolley.
“Please don’t make a mess this time,” Mary told me. She handed me a cup with black liquid. “Take this. You will not feel any pain with it in your system.”
“Thank you,” I said as I accepted the black gooey liquid. I gulped it down at once before placing the mug on the counter. “I hope that works. Do you have anything that reduces anxiety as well?”
Mary sighed. “Just stop worrying so much. Things will go well this time. If you have a negative or unsure attitude, the nervousness will only increase.”
At that point my hands were shaking. Her words were not helping at all. “Okay,” I said.
Having finished loading everything, Cara turned to me. I’ll only take you to the elevator. You’ll have to do the rest by yourself.”
“what? Cara you know that I’m very new to this. I don’t think I can survive it.”
“you can, and you will. Whether you like it or not, there will be a first. You better face and get over with it.”
“I guess you’re right,” I said. How long was I going to put it off anyway? Sooner or later, I would have to face that horrible man. He had to explain to me why he was treating me the way he was when I had not done anything wrong to me. Was he ashamed of me because I was a slave? That did not even make much sense since I had not been born a slave. I had been born to regular people but had merely turned into one when my parents were killed.
I wheeled the trolley out of the elevator when I reached the top floor. With shaky hands, I reached for the kitchen door and pulled it open. I wheeled the trolley in and sniffed around. He was close, in the living room. Taking a few deep breaths, I moved to the dining room from where I could see the living room clearly.
My breath hitched in my throat when I saw him. He was alone this time. He was seated on a large couch, reading a book. I turned away and started loading the items of my trolley to the table.
“Not even a good morning.”
I nearly dropped the mug I was holding when I heard the sound.
His voice was raspy, and deep. I turned, placing my hands on my lap before bowing. “Good morning, alpha Ridian.”
He did not reply, so I turned and continued to do what Cara had instructed me to do. After placing everything on the table, I turned and walked to where he was. I told him everything that had been prepared and asked him what he would like to have, and where he wanted to have it.
“I will have it at the dining table. Return and wait for me there.”
“Okay, sir.” I said and turned to go. I had walked a few metres when I stopped and turned back. I took a deep breath. This was it, the moment I had been waiting for.
The alpha looked up from his book. His green eyes almost intimidated me to silence but I found the strength to stand on my ground.
“I want to know why you have not rejected me yet,” I said.
He placed his book on the armrest and stood up. He took a few steps towards me. My heartbeat skyrocketed. Fear set in.
“Now why on earth would I do that?” he asked.
He touched my chin and held up my face. The touch of his hand was enough to make my mind freeze. I couldn’t think of any comeback.
“You’re very adorable,” he commented, letting go. “Now get to work. Serve me some bacon.”
I sighed and got to work.
