“Yes, you have my word.”
“Great! Dad, you are amazing!” Cherry hugged Derek’s neck and kissed him.
Yet Blueberry, who was standing aside, was still indifferent. It seemed that Blueberry didn’t have a better impression of Derek because of what he had said.
“Dad! Then can you buy me that giraffe? I like it so much!” Cherry immediately began to ask for toys.
“Sure.” Derek turned around to face Hayden. “Go to the mall and take a look. See where you can get that giraffe.”
“Yes, Mr. Darion.”
“Blueberry, what do you want? Whatever we want, Daddy will buy it for us! Hurry up and say what you want!” Cherry shouted at Blueberry.
“Blueberry, what do you want?” Derek asked as he turned to Blueberry, who was standing beside him.
“I don’t want anything.” Blueberry shook her head.
“Why not? I’ve got a long list myself. Dad, Blueberry saw a puzzle in the mall last time. It was a castle puzzle. Mommy said that the puzzle was not suitable for children as young as me and Blueberry, so she didn’t buy it for us. Can you buy that for Blueberry?”
“Sure.”
“Cherry, Mommy told us not to be too greedy,” Blueberry said to Cherry with a stern face.
Cherry pouted. “But, it’s Daddy.”
Hayden turned around and saw Serina. “Mrs. Lambert.”
Hearing Hayden’s words, Derek immediately turned his head around. “Serina?”
Serina faked a smile as a greeting. She then walked in.
“Mommy!” Cherry became very excited because Derek had promised her to buy toys. She had completely forgotten about her poor physical condition.
“Cherry, don’t be too greedy. You already have enough toys.”
When Cherry heard Serina’s words, she immediately became unhappy. “It’s from Daddy. Mommy, I want it.”
“No.”
Derek could tell that Serina’s face turned grim. “It doesn’t matter. Cherry is sick. I think it’s proper to fulfill her little request.”
“No means no.” Serina’s face darkened, not going to stand along with Derek. Hayden was also there.
Thus, things seemed a little awkward.
Serina looked at Cherry’s infusion bottle and said nothing.
“A word, please. Let’s talk outside.” Derek pulled Serina’s arm.
In front of the two children, Serina did not want to make things too ugly, so she nodded and walked out of the ward with Derek.
Hayden felt somewhat guilty about what was going on. After all, he was the one who blocked the news and did not tell Derek about it.
Hayden stood at the door of the ward and looked at Derek and Serina. He thought that maybe he could help explain at the proper time.
Serina stood in front of the window of the corridor and looked outside. “What do you wanna talk about?”
Derek walked over and wanted to hold Serina’s shoulder, yet Serina got rid of his hand.
“Are you angry with me?” Derek asked softly.
“How can I be angry with you, Mr. CEO?”
Serina was somewhat blaming Derek, even though she later recalled that Derek had said that he would go to the United States because of the listing of the Dark Empire.
However, after thinking about it, Serina still felt upset since she failed to contact Derek.
Serina was utterly blocked. Otherwise, even if a phone call or a text message from Derek could comfort Serina’s fragile heart at that moment.
Yet Serina didn’t hear from Derek at all.
At such a critical moment, Derek was not there by Serina’s side.
“I’m sorry, Serina. I was on a plane to the United States that day. You knew about the Dark Empire listing. The date was set a long time ago…”
Serina raised her hand. “I don’t understand what you’re saying. I don’t want to hear it, either.”
“It won’t happen again, Serina. Trust me, it won’t happen again.” Derek lowered his head.
Derek’s voice was a little hoarse, yet still attractive, just like before.
However, Serina suddenly felt very sad. She closed her eyes and took a breath. “Derek, I don’t want to talk about it now. I just hope that Cherry can get better soon.”
“Are you still mad at me?” Derek raised his arm to hug Serina. Yet Derek put his hand down when recalling that Serina just got rid of his hand.
“Serina, the Dark Empire was listed back then. I had to be there. Plus, I didn’t know that Cherry was so sick.”
Serina turned her head with a jerk, “What do you mean? Derek, are you saying that profits are always your top priority? That money matters most? You said you didn’t know Cherry was so sick. But has it ever occurred to you that you should try to find me when you haven’t seen me at home?
“I did look for you!” Derek lowered his eyes.
“Did you? What if something bad happened to me? You don’t care about me at all. You still go to the United States to get your company listed as planned. The way you see it, neither your daughters nor I weighed more than your company!”
“That’s not true! Serina, I thought you didn’t want to go to the United States with me because you would be worried about our kids. I called you, but I couldn’t get through. The plane was about to take off, so…”
“That is to say you went to the United States before confirming the girls and I are safe.” Serina interrupted Derek before he could finish the sentence.
Derek lowered his eyes. He fell silent, unable to refute.
But Serina was indeed telling the truth.
“Alright, even if you didn’t know things would go wrong like this, you could have called me and asked me where I was and what I was doing. But you didn’t, either. You are still occupied by your business!”
The more Serina thought about it, the sadder she felt. She didn’t speak out before. But it didn’t mean that she didn’t mind at all.
“Serina, I didn’t handle it well this time…”
“It’s not about handling! It only means you don’t give a damn about us! Derek, you have disappeared for more than four years. Even if you don’t know about your daughters, you should have known about me! Four years! You never called or texted me for a total of four years!”
When Serina said this, her eyes were full of tears. “Yet when you suddenly came back, you hid from me. You wouldn’t see me until you came up with some stupid event!”
Derek did not say a word and allowed Serina to speak out everything she had kept in mind.
“Am I your toy? You suddenly appeared when you wanted to see me, and when you didn’t want to see me, you just disappeared!”
Serina hugged her arms and felt cold. “Derek! In the past four years when you weren’t with me, have you ever thought about how I was doing?”
With tears streaming down her face, Serina sighed. “I think we should remain where we are now. I was used to taking care of my daughters alone without you. Now that I have you, I’m not used to it.”
