Chapter 29 Dear Luna

Amy
The room that I have been locked up in is so strange. It has no windows, I think it is in the middle of the house. It is so freaking cold and the bed in the centre of the small room has no bedspreads. I know I am in no position to judge a small room because my bedroom is no bigger, but I feel suffocated in here.
The men who brought me in here just dumped me on the bed and walked out. There never gave me a warning to not make any sounds. Maybe because they knew it was useless.
When I heard them lock the door on their way out, I hurriedly got off the bed and tried opening the door. They had to make sure I didn’t escape. I hit the door and screamed for someone to help me but it was all in vain. I gave up after some good time of shouting and hitting the door. I think the room is sound proof so nobody even heard me.
Now my throat feels sore and my hands are paining because of hitting them on the door too hard. I sit leaning against the door and facing the bed. Tears start to well in my eyes and my vision blurs. I close my eyes and let them flow freely.
When did I ever get to this? Being a victim of kidnap, falling in love with a werewolf, being held captive by his werewolf enemy? This all sounds unreal, but this is no fantasy story. It is really happening.
I feel like a princess stuck in a very high tower. The is a dragon spitting fire all over the place down there. Is there my knight in shining armor coming to save me? Dwayne is obviously the dragon and his venomous words and actions are the fire. Jace is my knight. Is he going to come for me? Dwayne really sounded sure when he said Jace was going to come for me, because I am his mate.
Werewolves can’t live without their mates, he said. It is still difficult for me to believe that Jace is really a werewolf. All this time of knowing each other, he never told me. He made love to me multiple times and we never used any protection. I was too caught up with excitement every time I even forgot I could get pregnant.
Could I really get pregnant? Would a werewolf make a human pregnant? Is that even possible in real life? What if it isn’t possible then well and good, but if it is then… Oh my God! I don’t want to have a baby right now. I just started being independent and I am still too young to have a family.
I start looking back at the last time I had my period. Phew! I just had it two weeks ago. I could be safe. I will have to do a quick pregnancy test when I get home, in case I even make it out of here.
My thoughts keep getting the best of me as as sit on the floor with my legs folded to my chest. I feel so helpless, and weak. All the crying has brought back the headache I had earlier and the back of my head is throbbing like it is going to burst.
After sometime, I hear a clicking sound on the other side of the door and a jiggling of keys. I think I had started to dose off. I rub my eyes and stand up. I hope someone has come to get me out of this creepy room. The door creaks open and a middle aged woman withith a smart look walks in. Her straight blonde hair is combed into a high ponytail and her dress is formal enough to show a high level of dignity.
Her chocolate brown eyes meet mine and a shudder runs through me. Her serious face splits into a small pitiful smile which makes me even more confused. She looks behind her, I think to make sure if anyone is watching her. After confirming whatever she was looking for, she closes the door behind her and steps in front of me.
“I am so confused by the entire situation right now. I am don’t know why you guys have a grudge against my boyfriend but I don’t think I should pay for what’s it is. I have really had enough drama for the day and I am so tired of this. I just want to go home now,” my words come out so fast I am left panting in the end.
The respectable lady falls on her knees infront of me and starts wailing. I think the level of confusion I have elevated to right now is not going to leave me still sane. She holds on my legs and weeps on my feet.
“I am sorry, oh Luna. May the moon goddess punish me, oh Luna,” her words come out in sobs and she continues wailing.
“Don’t do that. Stand up,” I ask but she shakes her head and continues to weep. This is now getting scary.
“No, dear Luna. Please punish me. I am a traitor. I should have stood up for the true Alpha of the Redclaw pack but I was scared. I just wanted to protect my children from Dwayne’s wrath,” she says between stammers and hiccups.
“What are you talking about? I am not Luna. My name is Amy,” I say trying to get her to stand up but she refuses to get off her knees.
“I know you are the mate of the rightful Alpha of this pack. Please have mercy on us your subjects, oh Luna,” she sobs.
“Jace is the rightful Alpha?” the words sound like a joke in my mouth.
“Yes, dear Luna. Dwayne killed his father, Alpha Cole and his mother, Luna Eve so that he could take over the Alpha position. He doesn’t belong here. Alpha Jace deserves the leadership position,” she replies.
She finally looks me in the eyes but not stand up. Her face is entirely tearstained and her eyes are read because of crying. Me, on the other hand, I am dumbstruck. Jace’s parents didn’t just die: they were killed. The same murderer is down somewhere in this castle waiting for the boy he orphaned years ago so that he can finish him.
“I have to get out of here right now,” I say while scrambling out of the woman’s hold so that I can reach for the door.
“Where are you going to, dear Luna?” she inquires while scrambling to get on her feet.
“To warn Jace. He shouldn’t come here. Dwayne is going to kill him,” I respond while turning the doorknob but the door is locked.
“No, please don’t go out there. There are so many guards around the castle. They are everywhere. They could do something really bad to you if they find out you are trying to escape,” she pleads while putting her hands together as if in a prayer. She looks so frightened and the crying mess allover her face does not reflect the composed lady that just walked in this room a few minutes ago. This must be serious.
“Please, Luna. You just came to us. Don’t leave us,” she walks towards me and holds my hand. I look at this woman who strongly believes that I am someone very royal and I can’t continue my unwise plan of saving Jace.
“Fine,” I say resignedly and sigh.
“Thank you, Luna,” she now looks a bit relieved.
She leads me to the bed and I sit on it. She sits beside me but does not let go of my hand. Using her other hand, she feels a lock of my hair between her fingers.
“Your hair is so soft. It would be very easy to comb and braid. It is just like Luna Eve’s,” she says with a sad smile.
“You should not call me your Luna,” I tell her and she frowns sadly.
“I mean am not a werewolf. I am just a human girl,” I explain in hope of getting her out of her misery.
“I know that. I can tell by your scents,” she give me a small smile.
“You can do that?” I wonder. She nods. Whoa!
“All werewolves can tell if one is human or werewolf,” she says. “It doesn’t matter if you are a human being or a werewolf. What matters is that you are Alpha Jace’s mate and you are the Luna.” There is silence for a moment as my mind tries to process all this.
“Why do have the keys to this room?” I later inquire from her.
“I am like the house keeper of this castle but that is not what I actually do. I am in charge of monitoring the cleanliness of the castle and the welfare of the Alpha and Luna. I used to be Jace’s nanny when he was a baby. He grew up in my arms,” tears start flowing down her cheeks again. I wonder if I should comfort her to stop crying.
“I looked for him at the time when he lost his parents, but I couldn’t find him anywhere. I later learnt that Mr. Perla, Alpha Cole’s Beta, had already run away with him. I should have looked for them and joined them to protect the young Alpha but Dwayne threatened my children’s safety. I had already lost my husband in a war with another pack. He was a pack warrior,” she adds while cleaning off her tears with a tissue she got from her dress pocket.
There is a knock at the door before I say something to the lady. My heart races at the thought of the men that brought me here having come for me. A shiver runs through me and I gather myself into a tight ball so that I can be as small as possible. I really don’t want to see them again, or their fake Alpha, Dwayne. I would rather be in here with this weeping woman because she seems way nicer than them.
“Stay here, Luna. I will go check out who it is,” she says and gives my hand a reassuring squeeze before letting it go so that she can walk to the door.
She looks for the right key from the big bunch of keys in her hand. She opens the door slowly and Sophia stands with a blood stained shirt behind the door. Her eyes meet the lady’s eyes before she even sees me.
“Ms. Jenny? What are you doing in here?” she inquires from the lady, her face frowning in confusion. Before she can say something, I jump off the bed and run to the door. I engulf Sophia in a tight hug, not minding a tiny bit that there is blood on her clothes.
“Amy! Thank goodness you are safe,” she shrieks with relief.
“I am so glad you came to find me. For a moment, I thought I would never see you again,” I confess, unwelcome tears of joy running down my cheeks.
“Don’t cry, Amy. Everything is going to be fine. We are all here for you,” she reassures me while patting gently on my back. Ms. Jenny locks the door and stands behind Sophia.
“How did you know that I was in this room?” I inquire from her after breaking away from the hug.
“I tracked your scent,” her eyes go wide after realizing what she has just said.
“I mean… um. I just…,” she starts fumbling with words and I just smile at her.
“Calm down. I already know the entire truth. I know everything,” I tell her, and she audibly gasps.
“You mean everything?” she inquires.
“Yes, I know about the past, what you are and what is happening right now,” I reply with a nod. She shakes her head in disbelief and looks at the woman standing behind her.
“Is she the one who told you?” she inquires.
“Partly yes, only because Dwayne had already told me about Jace’s true identity and why he had kidnapped me. She just explained everything to me,” I tell her.
“Dwayne! That fool,” she curses through clenched teeth.
“It is okay. Now that I know what this is all about, I really don’t like that Dwayne guy. I think we should get rid of him,” I say and they all look at me with utter shock.
“It is not that easy. Dwayne is a very powerful Alpha with many followers,” Sophia says.
“That is what he thinks,” Ms. Jenny says.
“What do you mean?” we all look at her in confusion.
“Alpha Jace has way many followers on this pack who believe in his rightful leadership. They have just been silent all these years. None of them want Dwayne. Not even other packs like him. They would do anything to support Alpha Jace,” Ms. Jenny says. I look at Sophia and then at Ms. Jenny. Sophia gives me a knowing smile.
“I think it is time they came out of the shadows,” Sophia says and Ms. Jenny nods.
