Barclay looked at Willette fiercely, and the hostility in his eyes startled her. She immediately shouted at Nydia, “What nonsense are you talking about?”
Jesse frowned, “It’s too noisy.” He immediately turned his wheelchair to leave.
Cade tried to calm him down and scolded Willette, “Willette, calm down. Don’t let Jasper ruin your sisterhood. He’s a madman.”
Nydia shrank her neck uneasily, and her eyes turned rosy, making her look pitiful.
“Barclay, you know Jasper is crazy. He deliberately said those things to cause a rift between you and Willette. You’ve been together with her for so many years, can’t you trust her?” If Barclay hadn’t seen Willette and Jasper kissing or sent someone to follow Willette, he would have believed that Jasper was just talking nonsense.
But he knew the truth, and now he believed that Jasper was the father of Willette’s unborn child.
So, was Jasper trying to mess with him?
“If it was Jasper causing trouble, then I apologize to you.” Barclay was willing to be flexible.
Jesse nodded but didn’t say anything.
“I told you it was a misunderstanding. Now that it’s cleared up, we should stick together as a family.” Cade breathed a sigh of relief but was surprised that it wasn’t Jesse who caused the trouble.
“Mr. Malone, did you forget something?” Jesse reminded him.
Cade froze, and then he understood that Jesse wasn’t going to let it go so easily.
“I’m not a generous person. Not making things worse is the best outcome. Don’t push your luck.”
Jesse didn’t want to waste any more time.
“The food in this restaurant is just so-so when the owner is not around. We’ll leave now.”
Nydia felt confused. Was Jesse praising her or criticizing her?
“Hey, my chef’s food tastes good, okay? How can it not be delicious?” Nydia didn’t believe it and thought Jesse was just nitpicking.
“It’s not as good as yours. Is that okay?”
Who compliments someone with such a confrontational tone?!
“What do you think Barclay will do next?” She was looking forward to seeing them fight like dogs.
In the previous life, Willette had manipulated Jasper and was comfortable between him and Barclay. Jasper had fully displayed his sycophantic traits, but Willette had never gotten pregnant. This time, she was pregnant, which was significant for Jasper. He would never give up his child and it was also his leverage to be with Willette.
“I don’t care,” Jesse said disdainfully.
Watching Jesse act so wildly, Nydia felt warm in her heart. This was how Jesse should be, instead of being manipulated by Willette and Barclay in the previous life, and dragging his feet.
This time, he should be able to create his business empire well, and no one can bring him down!
Sensing Nydia’s gaze, Jesse looked over, feeling a sting in his heart, like a bee’s sting. It wasn’t that painful, but he couldn’t ignore it.
Her eyes were exceptionally bright in this dark car, like a light on a vast sea, leading him in its direction.
If she looked at another man like that…
He would tear up the divorce agreement.
Nydia turned her gaze away and looked out the window. She lowered the window, enjoying the cold wind, but feeling warm inside. She squinted her eyes and smiled.
Thankful for her rebirth, she would try to help those in need and repay the gifts of this life.
Nydia messaged the store manager to keep an eye on the private room and let her know if the guests leave. But Willette and Barclay were still in the room at the Moon Palace.
The atmosphere in the room was heavy and oppressive.
“Okay, let’s go home,” Cade said, feeling that staying any longer was pointless.
“Dad, I got myself into this mess, I’ll deal with it alone and won’t trouble you,” Barclay’s words surprised Cade. He thought Barclay would ask him for help, but he said it wasn’t necessary.
“Willette, we’re already married and have our own family, let’s try not to bother our parents too much. Let’s go home first,” he said to Willette.
Willette had been worried that Barclay was still suspicious of her, but he seemed calm at the moment.
“What are you talking about, you’re my only daughter, why wouldn’t I take care of you? Let’s leave it at that for today, and we’ll think of a solution tomorrow.”
They split up at the restaurant and Willette followed Barclay.
However, they didn’t go back to their new home. Instead, they went to Barclay’s parents’ house.
“My son, why have you lost so much weight?” Mrs. Evans saw Barclay and felt very sorry for him. Then she glared at Willette disapprovingly and said, “How did you take care of Barclay?”
“Mom, please stop. I’m already annoyed. Where’s dad? I’ll go talk to him.”
“He hasn’t come back yet. I’ll call you when he does.”
“Okay.”
Barclay and Willette went to their room.
“Barclay, my dad will definitely help us. Don’t worry too much.” Willette took the initiative to ease the tension.
“Did Jasper ask you to do a paternity test?” Barclay asked calmly, his face expressionless.
“You have to trust me. He’s just crazy!” Willette explained.
“I trust you, but he’s making things difficult for us.” Barclay let out a deep sigh.
“I have to talk to him, but if I go, he definitely won’t see me. Even if he does, he’ll just mock me.” He pinched his brow, looking very distressed.
Willette felt sorry for him, “Why don’t I go talk to him? Ask him to stop doing this.”
“I can’t let you take risks. If he does something to you…”
“I’ll be careful. How about this? I’ll make an appointment with him and you can hide nearby. If something happens, I’ll scream!”
Barclay gently stroked Willette’s face and whispered, “Willette, I’m sorry. It’s my fault. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be in this mess…”
“Don’t say that. We’re in this together now, and we’ll definitely get through it!”
“Thank you, Willette!”
Barclay hugged Willette, a calculating smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.
He asked Willette to call Jasper and make an appointment to meet him the next day.
Jasper was happy to receive Willette’s call and naturally agreed to meet her.
The next day at noon, Willette met Jasper, while Barclay was in the next room.
“Jasper, have you been behind everything that has happened recently? Are you doing this to Barclay?”
“Am I doing this to him? If he didn’t do it, what’s there to be afraid of?”
“I beg you, please stop bothering him, okay? I’m begging you!”
Jasper looked at Willette, “Then come with me to do a paternity test!”
