After leaving the hospital, Nydia reminded Jesse to take his medication, even if it had side effects. But Jesse leaned back in his seat with his eyes closed, and Nydia didn’t know if he had heard her.
“I’m going to see that girl. Do you want to come with me, or do you want to go back?” Nydia asked.
“I’ll take you there.”
This attitude? There’s hope!
They arrived at the man’s house. His name was Percy, and his family was of modest means. After his daughter got sick, they spent all their savings, and now they were living in a house in the countryside.
“Are you getting off?” Nydia asked Jesse.
“Yes.”
“I knew Mr. Pascall was actually a warm-hearted person.” Nydia laughed and complimented him.
Jesse opened his eyes and sneered, “I’m afraid you’ll get beaten up.”
“… Never mind that mouth!”
Their arrival undoubtedly attracted the attention of the villagers, especially since Jesse was in a wheelchair.
“Excuse me, Madam. Can you tell me where Percy’s house is?” Nydia asked.
“You’re looking for Percy? He’s been arrested.”
“We’re here to see his daughter.”
The lady became wary and looked at them with fear, but she mustered up the courage to say, “The child is innocent. She’s a good child. Don’t, don’t make it difficult for her.”
“Yes, they spent all their money on medical expenses and can’t afford to pay anymore,” another person chimed in.
Nydia was surprised to hear this. It seemed that they were quite popular in the village.
“He’s also a poor man. He finally married a wife and had a child, but the child got sick and his wife ran away with another man. He even wanted to die with his daughter, but we talked him out of it.”
“Folks, you’ve misunderstood us. We’re not here to cause trouble. We just heard that the child is sick, so we came to see if we could help. We have a friend who’s a doctor, and if we can help the child, that would be great.”
The folks were surprised. “Are you really here to help the child?”
“Yes, if we were here to cause trouble, there would be no need for us to come in person, right? My husband has trouble walking, so there’s really no need for that.” Nydia said.
This reassured some of the villagers, and they all took Nydia and Jesse to Percy’s house.
“Layla, these two people are here to see you.”
A little girl was sweeping the floor while wearing a mask. When she heard a sound, she looked up and saw Jesse, feeling a bit scared. But she immediately tightened her grip on the broom and took two steps forward, bowing to Jesse.
“I’m sorry. My dad hurt you. I’m sorry!” This was just a thin, seven or eight-year-old girl with sparse hair.
After apologizing, she began to cough, her frail body arching as she looked heartbreakingly pitiful. “Sir, Madame, I won’t pour water for you. If you have any requests, just tell me. I’ll do my best to fulfill them.” Her eyes were moist, revealing a touch of stubbornness.
Nydia looked at Jesse, who had a blank expression. It was a bit difficult for him to speak, and it would be better not to. If a seven or eight-year-old girl with poor psychological endurance was upset, Jesse would get into trouble.
“Your name is Layla, right? We came to learn about your situation,” Nydia’s voice was gentle, her face smiling without any hostility, making Layla less scared.
“As for the matter of your father hurting us, we will definitely investigate it.”
The villagers next to them looked dissatisfied. They felt that this was not good for the child. She was already so pitiful, why say such things?
Someone was about to speak, but Nydia continued, “However, we can help you with your illness. We hope that after you recover, you can live a good life with your father.”
The little girl was stunned, her mouth slightly open in surprise.
“You… you want to cure me?” She looked very shocked.
“Yes, but we need to see your medical condition first. We can help you pay for the medical expenses.”
“How… how is this possible… my dad hurt you, and I should pay you back. Why do you want to help me?”
Nydia reached out and touched the little girl’s head. “Because I also have a daughter. If you feel embarrassed, you can pay us back when you grow up. But you must never let your father hurt anyone again.”
The little girl suddenly knelt down with a thump in front of Nydia and Jesse, startling Nydia, who quickly helped her up. “Don’t cry. Your body is not suitable for emotional excitement right now.” In fact, Nydia could tell that the little girl was really ill.
“We’ll take you to see your dad.” Some of the villagers couldn’t help wiping away tears. They felt that the little girl could survive because she was a very well-behaved and sensible child.
Nydia and Jesse took the little girl to the detention center to see Percy. On the way, Nydia checked her pulse, but with her current level of medical expertise, she couldn’t treat her and had to take her to the hospital.
The road to medicine is long, and she must continue to strive for excellence.
When the little girl went to see Percy, Nydia and Jesse didn’t follow her in. They didn’t know what was said inside, but when the little girl came out, her eyes were very swollen. Afterwards, they handed the little girl over to Vincent and let her stay in the hospital, with all the medical expenses paid by Nydia.
“Thank you! When I grow up, I will definitely pay you back.” The little girl bowed to them again, “And I told my dad, he will correct himself and won’t hurt others again.”
“You can rest assured that you are getting treatment, don’t be too burdened, and when you’re better, your dad will come out too.”
The little girl looked at Nydia and felt that she was like an angel. She also wanted to become such a person!
Nydia and Jesse had just left the hospital when they received a call from Cade.
“Nydia, are you and Jesse free? Let’s have dinner tonight.”
“Mr. Malone, what’s wrong? Is something going on?” Nydia asked.
“It’s about your sister and brother-in-law. I thought we could have dinner together. Barclay did something wrong before, and I made him apologize to you. But in the end, we’re still a family, so let’s not let others laugh at us.”
Cade was angry when he said these words, but he had no choice. Barclay had made a big mistake, and he had to ask Jesse for forgiveness.
“Let me ask him.”
Nydia put the phone on speaker and asked Jesse, “Mr. Malone asked us to dinner. Are we going?”
Jesse took her phone.
“Mr. Malone, why don’t you just call me directly?”
“Aren’t you busy? I don’t want to bother you.” Cade didn’t really want to make this call, but Willette had been bothering him so much that he had to.
“How is Barclay’s mood now? I’m afraid he might do something if we go there. I’m a cripple, I definitely can’t beat him.”
When Nydia heard this, her eyes raised in surprise. This guy actually spoke so calmly about being disabled? Was it because his legs were better lately, and his confidence had risen? If Jesse had a tail, it would surely be wagging now.
“I’ll be there, and I won’t let Barclay do anything. You can rest assured.” Cade assured him.
“Okay, then I’ll take Nydia with me.”
“Great, I’ll book the restaurant. It’s the one on Fulin Road, the Bright Moon restaurant. I heard the food is good, and I’ll book a private room.”
Nydia couldn’t help but stifle a laugh. Cade actually went to Bright Moon? Was Bright Moon so popular now? How come she didn’t know?
