The trial starts once again, I’m sat at a table with Ryan’s parents my real parents in the audience, Racheal wasn’t happy that we had to restart the trial, but I really didn’t care what she thought at this point.
“I would like to call Mrs Wilson to the stand,” I say, Ryan’s mother looks at me scared but eventually makes her way over to the stand, hands shaking.
“Okay first off, why is both clients my in handcuffs but she isn’t, either take theirs off or put some on her,” I say giving the guards a look, they quickly take the cuffs off Ryan’s parents.
“Mrs Wilson, is it true that Racheal over there approached you the day you went to see the king and queen?” I ask, walking around the courtroom, just like you see in tv it felt so cool, even in a huge dress.
“Yes” is all she says, wow she could have explained am I really gonna have to do all the work myself, I give her a look she soon realises she needs to explain “She overheard the conversation my husband and I were having with the king and queen and offered to help, she said the best way to get the king and queen to notice we were serious was to use the princess,” she says as I take a quick look at my parents sitting next to Ryan, my mum sending me a smile.
“She said she wanted to help cause she also had a son and would do anything to keep him safe, so we gave her our number and that was it,” she says, Racheal tries to talk but the judge was quick to shut her up, I sent her a smirk before continuing.
“She rang you didn’t she?” I ask, Ryan’s mum who nods looking down.
“Yes, a few weeks later we got a phone call saying the plan was on and we had to meet her in a location, just outside the castle where our car would be parked, my husband would come and get the-” she says but stopped, I raise my eyebrow telling her to go on, “she told us to come and get the package” Wow I didn’t know I was called a package, I was a year old really?
“It really shows how much you cared about the princess, if you called her a package,” I say looking towards Racheal before continuing “did you know the package was actually the princess?” I ask Ryan’s mother, again it’s like I was an object or something.
“At first no but when she asked us to get some baby clothes, we knew it was something bad, but by then it was too late she said if we backed out she’d get some men to deal with our 3-year-old son,” she says looking down, she threatened Ryan oh hell no! “we didn’t want to cause we had a baby, I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if that ever happened to my son, but I didn’t want anything to happen to my baby so we went through with it,” she says beginning to cry, I had to hold tears back myself.
“The night when it happened, what did she tell you to do first?” I ask not wanting to dive any deeper into that whole thing, I probably wouldn’t be able to keep it together if I did.
“Well we parked the car where she told us to, I stayed in the car with our son while my husband met her at the edge of the castle,” she says, wiping her tears away with a tissue.
“So the next time you saw your husband he had the princess,” I say, she nods saying correct “did you hear from her after that night?” I ask, I actually didn’t know this.
“A day later she rang saying we’d have to lay low for a while until she gave us the okay, but that’s the last time we ever heard from her until..” she says trailing off, I send her a look that’s also something I didn’t know.
“Until?” I ask, hoping she wouldn’t shoot herself in the foot.
“Well just before the princess was found we got a phone call, saying we had to leave town immediately, the king and queen knew where the princess was and was about to come to collect her, so we packed up and left to our house taking our children with us,” she says, which made me nearly tear up, she called me her children, okay hold yourself together Savannah.
“No further questions,” I say knowing if I spoke anymore I would burst out crying, I walk over back to my seat which was next to Ryan’s father.
“What your mum said is true, you’re always gonna be our daughter” Ryan’s dad whispered making me smile and turn to Ryan, who sent me a smile mouthing
“I love you” I smile turning back around, as Rachael’s lawyer person stood to ask Ryan’s mum some questions.
“Is it true that every year around the time when the king and queen would look for their daughter, you would leave town?” He asked, I didn’t know they looked for me every year, that’s why we used to go on holiday at the same time every year.
“That’s correct, we were still scared that she’d send people to hurt our son so we made sure no one ever knew we had Savannah,” she says looking over at me, I send her a smile telling her she was doing fine.
“Why’d you change her name? The princesses name was Yasmin but you changed it to Savannah why?” He asks, wow this man does ask some dumb questions, I’ve only been doing this job for less than an hour and I asked better questions than that.
“Because if she had the same name it would be easier to be found” she answers, wow how did this man ever get this job?
“But that wasn’t the only reason, was it? We did some digging into your life and back when you were a child your little sister went missing suddenly” he says, I didn’t even know she had a sister “what was her name huh?” He asks, but she doesn’t answer, okay where’s he going with this?
“Okay, how is this even relevant?” I ask, standing up looking towards the judge.
“What was your little sister’s name?” He asks again, I look up at Ryan’s mum, why wasn’t she just telling him?
“Savannah,” she says, which makes my jaw drop, I was named after her missing sister.
“What’s that got to do with anything? They had to choose a name for me, I mean the princess so they chose that name so what?” I ask still on my feet, trying to get this lawyer person to stop talking.
“Well let me explain, little Savannah was 5 when she went missing, she was taken from right outside her school wasn’t she? The day that you were meant to pick her up but you didn’t, you went off with your friends and let your little sister get kidnapped” he says getting right up close to her, I felt like walking around the table putting his guy in a headlock “did you want to make it up to your little sister by taking another little girl in, you named her Savannah so maybe she would become your little sister, who you would do right by this time and that’s why you never gave her back cause you didn’t want to lose your sister again” he shouts, making Ryan’s mum burst into tears.
“That’s enough” I say, but he didn’t listen and went to speak again “I said that’s enough” I say in a different tone which makes him bow his head and walk back to sit next to Racheal.
“We need to take a break” I say looking at the judge, who just nods dismissing the court for a while.
