Chapter 27

Book:Letters From an Ex-Wife Published:2024-5-1

Alex had been waiting for Liza’s call all morning. He didn’t know if Liza had made right choice by leaving Jonathan because he could see how torn she really was over leaving Jonathan. He knew that Liza was determined to find herself and he knew that once she set her heart at something she would never back away from it. But he worried for her. There was a time when he had loved Liza. She had been the only one to see past the mask he put on, the only one to believe in him when even his parents had given up hope. But that was a long time ago. He still loved Liza but like a friend. He had seen Liza when she had told him about when Liza and Jonathan had first met. He could see the sparkle in her eyes as she had talked about it. Alex wasn’t sure if he could ever bring that spark in her eyes. He loved Liza but for now he was content in standing behind her as she moved ahead with her life.
Jonathan woke up to find himself sitting against the wall in the Liza’s bedroom. Unlike last time there were no broken bottles, nothing was trashed in fact everything was clean so clean that it felt empty but the as all the events crashed down on him once again he felt ache that hadn’t been there last time he had found himself sleeping on the floor in one of the bedrooms. It was the kind of ache which didn’t burn him immediately, it isn’t fill him with fire, it was the kind of ache which spread slowly in his veins, freezing him from insides, burning his life source with ice cold fire. It hurt, it hurt so goddamn much that he felt the need to slump down on the floor but his feet refused to acknowledge this need as he picked up the box of letters that Liza left for him. It was the only thing he had of her now apart from the memories.
Jonathan looked around the room. It was still looked the same to him but somehow duller. He knew now that he could have done nothing to stop her from leaving him, nothing to make up for the pain he had caused her and that he could do nothing now when she had left him. He had made so many mistakes in the past year and had lost so much due to them in the past year that he couldn’t even keep an account of them. He needed to grow u. He needed to own up to his mistakes. With Liza gone there was nothing he could do, he couldn’t get her back because he was the one who had hurt her and he just wanted her to be happy and him following her would only ruin her. So he did what he should have done, he let her go.
“Hello” Liza spoke timidly to the person on the other end of the phone. “Hey, Liza” the man spoke cheerfully. “I am at the airport, my plane has landed, where are you?” she asked. I am by the luggage area.” he replied. “I can’t see you. I really can’t” Liza replied “Come on Liz, look around. I am sure you will be find me. I am even waving at you” he said. Liza looked around until her eyes landed on a man wearing a three piece suit, his brown hair were styed perfectly, he would have looked like a perfect businessman, all rich, handsome and successful if he hadn’t been jumping with a sign board in his hand which read ‘Lizzy Bear’.
Liza sighed as she walked to him “Lizzy bear? Seriously. Couldn’t you come up with something better” she said “Come on, is that how you greet the person you haven’t seen in a long long time, by criticizing his nick name for you? Where are those manners, I taught you” he said, his brown eyes twinkling with mischief. Liza couldn’t help but remember all those years they had spent, with him taking care of her, teaching her how to punch, threatening boys who teased her, he had even managed to scare Alex. “Not really, all you taught me was how to punch when a stranger talked to me and right now I barely know you” Liza said “Come on Liz, I am still the same guy and you know it. You wouldn’t have called me, if you didn’t trust me” he said.
Liza sighed “Okay, fine. I am being unreasonable. I love you and I am glad I found you.” she said moving forward to hug him. He wrapped his hands around her, lifting her up a little from the ground. He didn’t care the people around them were looking at them. He didn’t give shit if his photo could be in the next day’s newspapers, he only cared that he finally had her back “I love you too Liza. Everything is going to be better now. Let’s go home. I have ordered Cheese and Pepperoni Pizza with jalapenos, I hope you like it. “He said smiling widely. He was so glad to get her back. “I love it. Somethings never change.” Liza said. Although she was sad at how things turned out from the day she met him at the hospital, she was still happy that she got him back. She was happy that she got Carson back.
