Even Chester had got the news that they had come. It seemed like she had no choice but to get inside today.
Selina frowned, “Sorry. I’ve caused you trouble again.”
Manfred shook his head, “It’s not your fault.”
After getting inside, they could feel the joyful atmosphere in the whole mansion. It was still early for dinner, and everyone was chatting in the living room.
Carl was proud of himself. He kept talking to Evelyn and the others about tricky questions he had answered in the interview.
When Jayden entered the room, he happened to hear Carl’s words, and he couldn’t help but complain, “I’ve never heard of those questions in an interview before.”
Selina couldn’t help but giggle, “You came up with those questions, didn’t you?”
In an occasion like this, Manfred wondered why Selina could still giggle.
Manfred couldn’t help but sigh, “If they make things difficult for you later…”
“I’m not afraid!” Selina straightened up and said, “I’ve been through things like that at the Keith’s Mansion for many times. Don’t worry!”
Everyone stopped talking when they saw them coming in. Bonnie looked at Selina and felt jealous when she saw that Selina was holding on Manfred’s arm. Manfred usually kept at least half a meter away from others, but Selina could stay so close to him.
Carl came up to greet Manfred and went upstairs as well.
Manfred thought for a moment and said, “Let me take you to see Dad!”
Chester was feeding the fish beside the pond in the backyard. Behind him was a nurse, carrying fish food and following him around.
Manfred and Selina walked over. Before they stood still, Chester said. “Manfred, wait for me in my study.”
Glancing at Selina, Manfred didn’t move.
Chester was very angry, “What? You worry that I will do something to her?”
Manfred made a grunt and squeezed Selina’s hand before turning around and walking away.
Selina stood there for a while to gather the courage before walking over to stand behind Chester and said, ” Master Gordon, you want to talk to me?”
Master Gordon?
Chester’s fingers, which was holding fish food, stiffened before he said, “You’re such a tactful girl. I just want to repeat what I said last time. You are not helpful to Manfred at all.”
“Why do you think so?” Selina asked.
She thought Manfred had become much happier than before though.
“You don’t need me to tell you what kind of person Manfred used to be. But what now? Other than him being beaten up for you last time, I think you’ve also already known the thing about that report in the newspaper this morning. He doesn’t even care about the reputation of our family because of you now.”
Speaking of that, Chester became slightly agitated.
Selina’s heart skipped a beat, “You mean that report this morning was Manfred’s …”
She didn’t finish her sentence, but she had already got an answer in her heart. No wonder Manfred seemed to have known that Bonnie would come in the restaurant today.
It turned out that all of this was in his plan.
“How much?” Chester spoke again, interrupting her train of thought.
“What?” Selina did understand his question at once.
“How much do you need to leave Manfred?” Chester said.
Selina frowned and almost blurted, “I don’t want money!”
“You don’t want money? Didn’t Manfred and you make a deal? If it’ a deal, there’s always a price. I’ll give you what you want, and you must leave him now!”
Selina’s face was pale, “There is indeed a deal, but it’s a deal that doesn’t involve money. If Manfred doesn’t tell me to leave him himself, I won’t!”
Chester sneered, “I knew it. It’s not that simple. If you don’t want money, then you’re up for getting a bigger fortune? You’re not thinking about becoming the lady of the Gordon family, are you? With your background and your past, do you think that’s possible?”
Chester spoke straightforwardly. His tone was very calm, and he wasn’t emotional. But something like that would be an insult to the person who heard it, no matter how he said it.
Selina clenched her fists and said, “Master Gordon, I respect you because you are Manfred’s father. There’s no other reason. You might be thinking poorly of my background and my past, but to me, they are all treasures that no one else has the right to comment on. And you, with all due respect, a man who even pokes his nose in his son’s business in bed, is surely not a good father!”
Chester flushed with anger, “You disrespectful monster! Somebody …”
However, before he could finish speaking, a scream suddenly came from the front yard. A servant rushed in and shouted, “Bad news! There’s something wrong with the young master!”
Chester was startled, “What happened?”
“The young master suddenly fainted …”
Before the servant finished her words, Selina had already dashed out. Chester frowned as he watched her run away. After a second, he said.
“Call a doctor.”
When Selina ran to the front yard, Manfred had already been settled in his bedroom.
Bonnie stood at the door in a daze, her face gloomy. However, no one at that moment had the time to pay attention to her. Everyone was looking at Manfred.
Just as Selina ran there, she was stopped by Jayden.
“How can you run around in the Gordon’s Mansion like this?”
Selina frowned. She wanted to tell him that the butler and Chester would be here with a doctor soon. No matter what, Chester would definitely be good to Manfred, so Selina felt a little relieved.
Everyone was waiting outside, and Evelyn couldn’t help but mutter, “It’s really not a good thing for Manfred to live outside alone. If someone takes the opportunity to do something to him, no one will know!”
She was hinting at Selina, and Jayden immediately agreed with her, “Chester, Evelyn is right.”
Chester’s face became even more sullen, “Somebody sees Ms. Jones out.”
As he spoke, the servants began to surround Selina. But how could she leave now? At this moment, Manfred’s safety was the most important thing.
While she was still arguing with them, the doctor pushed the door open and came out.
Chester hurriedly stood up and came up to the doctor, “How is him?”
Doctor Jackson shook his head, looking serious, ” Master Gordon, the young master’s illness is really weird. I’ve never seen something like this before!”
“What?” Chester took a step back, “How is that possible? We didn’t even know about it before.”
Selina sneaked into the room to have a look while they were speaking and saw rashes on Manfred’s face.
She gathered the courage and stepped forward to say to the doctor, “Can I try?”
The doctor froze, “Is this lady also a doctor?”
Selina shook her head, “I’m not a doctor, but I’ve seen something like this before. Please let me have a try.”
“No way!” Jayden stopped her, “You don’t know anything. It’s none of your business!” Although he didn’t really believe that Selina could treat the disease, he still tried to stop her from getting close to Manfred by all means.
Selina simply ignored him and looked at the doctor, “Let me try! Please!”
