“Devon please. Answer the phone!”
It’s been an hour since he left the office after receiving a call from Melena.
“Daemon, Devon kidnapped Lucy! Now Brian is hunting her down! Come quick and save my daughter!” he remembered how frantic Melena has become.
“Shit!” He slammed the wheels when Devon did not pick up his call and dialed her number again. “Come on, Devon. Answer me, please.”
But the line went static and died again.
The bumper to bumper traffic made him more irritable as his patience ran out so he abandoned his car by the side of the road and called for his assistant.
“Prepare the chopper. I’ll be there in five minutes.”
“Yes, sir.”
He ran a kilometer to arrive at the rooftop of one of his buildings where his chopper is already there. They rode for a few minutes and landed at the back of the Farrows mansion where he saw Melena crying and begging in front of Brian.
“Brian please! She is your sister! Do not do anything to her! Do not ever kill her! I’m going to die if you do that! I swear I’m going to kill myself!”
“Mom! She kidnapped my daughter! I don’t know how she found out where Lucy is studying but enough is enough. I will kill her. How dare she hurt my only child!”
“I won’t allow that. No one is going to hurt my wife!” Daemon’s voice thundered inside the house the moment he walked in.
Brian automatically gritted his teeth when he saw him and attacked him with a gun.
“You! Tell me where you’re hiding that goddamn woman! Bring my daughter back to me or else I’m going to blow your brain out of your head!”
He just pushed him aside and stared straight through Melena’s eyes. “I don’t know where Devon is right now but I know she won’t do anything to your child. She’s also a mother. She knows how hard it is to lose one.”
“Then call her and tell her to bring back our daughter here or else I’m going to hunt her myself!”
His eyes darkened at Brian’s warning. “Hurt a single strand of her hair and I won’t hesitate to shoot your child,” he threatened them.
“No! Lucy! No!” Sylvia whimpered and collapsed into Brian’s chest.
Daemon stared hard at the two. Now they know how hell it felt to lose a child.
“Daemon, I am telling you. If Devon does not give back Lucy tonight, then I will make sure to overturn the whole state just to find her and my child and I won’t leave her alive!” Brian yelled to his face.
“No! I said no!” Melena came between the two raging men. “I told you already never to hurt Devon! Do you even know why she’s doing this?”
Brian and Sylvia’s face went pale as Melena went on the reason why Devon came at this point.
“Because of what we did! Devon has reached her boiling point, Brian! You know your sister won’t hurt your child but you look so scared now because of the ghosts of your past!”
“Shut up, mom!” Brian glanced at Daemon who just stood there frozen in his feet. “Shut up!”
“Why would I shut my mouth?” Melena continued. “You are ashamed of what you did but you never asked for forgiveness. It came to this point because of your own doing! No one should be blamed here other than you!”
“Melena!” All of them turned towards the voice and Gestoni walked to them in long powerful strides. He briefly looked at Daemon and then went directly to his wife with a warning tone.
“Your son told you to shut up.”
Melena stopped talking and looked away while Brian was comforting his wife. This family really has some messed-up situation and Daemon can bet all of what he had that part of that secret is the location of his daughter.
“No, no one here will make a move. I’ll find Devon and I’ll return your child to you. In that way, maybe you’ll also have the heart to give Emily back to us.”
He left the mansion to continue looking for his wife. For hours, he called all of his connections and ordered his private army to look for Devon but nothing positive happened until he received a call.
He returned home feeling both relieved and angry, especially when he saw Henry in the garage waiting for him.
Snatching him by his neck, he planted a punch on his face that sent him flying to the ground. Blood oozed out from his nose as he struggled to stand up. Daemon caught his collar again.
“What do you think you’re doing? Do you think this is funny? Huh? Do you think this is really funny, Henry?!”
He tried to keep his composure but the thought of him being with his wife the whole day without him knowing is making him go insane.
“I’m just helping Devon, boss.”
He kicked him in the gut and waited for him to stand up again.
“Do you think you’re helping her by doing this? You are just giving her false hopes! You helped her kidnap a child!”
Henry shrugged his shoulders and met his eyes directly. “It’s better than what you are doing now, boss. You hurt her, rejected her, abandoned her and now that I’ve helped her, I’m suddenly the bad guy? That doesn’t make any sense.”
Daemon felt his blood coursing into his head right at that moment. “Do you really think she would come at you because you chose to be her henchman? How naïve of you to think like that, Henry. She is my wife and she will only be mine. Accept that as early as now.”
He looked at Henry whom he treated his younger brother all his life. He never thought the day would come that he would betray him this bitterly.
“If you don’t, I will have to cut you off completely from our lives.”
He left him and quickly climbed to the stairs into the bedroom where he found Devon curled up next to a child who’s sleeping soundly on their bed.
She sensed his presence and stood up not wanting to wake the little girl.
“Are you mad at me?” she asked him in a soft voice clearly knowing the mistake she has committed. “Please, don’t be mad at me, Daemon.”
Her tears started forming around her eyes and the second he realized it, they’re already streaming down her face.
It woke him up from his trance and he immediately crossed the distance between them and took her in his arms tightly. Closing his eyes, he inhaled her scent and uttered his gratefulness that she’s alive and unscathed.
“Thank you for being alive, Devon.” He kissed her lips desperately pouring all the fear he felt the whole time he knew she’s away and cannot be reached on her phone.
“You’re not angry at me?” she asked again after a moment of silence. “You don’t hate me for doing it? For kidnapping a child?”
He glanced at the sleeping child first before shaking his head at her.
“No, not at all Devon. I’m not angry at you at all because I understand why you have done this.”
“But?” she said and slowly backed down away from him. “You want me to return her to her parents. Is that what you’re trying to tell me, Daemon?”
He reached for her again and cupped her face. He knows how distraught and confused she must be feeling now but this time, they really have to do what is right. “But we have to give her back to her parents. As you can see, she’s not Emily. She’s not our daughter. She will ask for her mother and father. She would want to go back home.”
She pushed him away and wiped her tears. “But they did not think about that when they took Emily away from me. No! I will not give Lucy back unless they give us Emily! That’s the only condition I have! Take it or leave it, Daemon!”
Daemon stood there feeling the weight of the situation. He stood there feeling hopeless and restless as Devon stayed firm by her decision.
“Devon…”
