Her hands are cold inside his clasp while inside the car. They’re outside the Farrows mansion to get their plan going. Daemon’s private army on standby for possible hostilities.
“You can do it, Devon. For Emily,” Daemon motivated his wife when she trembled under his touch. “You’re not alone. Whatever happens, know that I’m here beside you.”
She met his soft gaze. His words comforted her knowing that she’ll not be alone in facing her family this time. She lost count how many times she wished for this to happen and now it’s finally happening. “O-Okay. Thank you so much.”
Hand in hand, they got out of the car and rang the bell. A heavily armed man opened the gate for them with his gun aiming at Daemon’s head.
“Freeze!” he yelled at Daemon.
“I want to see my mother. I’m here to visit her,” Devon said in a calm tone despite her hand chilling in his grip.
“I’ll put that gun down if I were you,” Daemon said without any sound of fear in his voice.
With his towering height and muscular body, he can easily subdue the man if he wants to.
“Devon! Devon!”
From the door came out Melena running towards them surprised by their presence.
“You’re back my daughter.”
She embraced Devon tightly who was forced to hug her mother back.
“Mom.”
Melena withdrew with tears in her eyes before looking towards her back where Daemon stood like a log.
“What is he doing here? Devon, why did you bring him here? Your father will kill him!”
With a smile, Devon pulled Daemon to her side confidently to show that she’s not in any way afraid of her father’s judgment.
“I want him to come with me because I want to welcome him to our family officially. I want you to meet him, mom.”
“What? Devon, are you out of your mind?! Your father won’t allow it! You know how he is! There’s no one in the world he hates more than the Drufts!”
“But I’m married to one!” she reasoned out. “Mom, you will allow it, right? Just tell dad that you asked me to be here, that you want to amend your broken relationship with your daughter.”
“Devon…” Melena looked at Daemon and went back to her own daughter.
“Why, mom? You can’t even do that?” She faked a sob. “You don’t want to repair our relationship anymore? Why? Don’t you want me as your daughter anymore?”
She let her tears fall, making sure she sees how she’s suffering inside.
“Mom, I missed you so much that’s why I’m here. I’m your only daughter. Can you at least do something for me? Growing up, I never heard you take my side. Please show me that you love me too.”
She wanted to add that she doesn’t need their love for her knowing how they separated her from her baby.
Melena held her face and then hugged her in her arms and kissed her head. “Of course, darling. I love you so much. You are my only beloved daughter.”
Liar! You never loved me! You even gave my daughter to my brother because you love them more than me.
Daemon squeezed her hand when he felt that she’s growing tense again.
“Then do something for me,” she challenged her. It’s time she used their tactics against them. Back then, they always guilt-tripped her which she always fell into. “I’m trying to be closer to dad with my husband beside me. I realized that I no longer want to run away from you and hate this family. I want us to be fixed. Please, mom. Help me.”
Melena fell silent for a while deciding what to do in this situation. In the end, she ordered the man to put down his gun. Devon sighed and let her mother embrace her again. She believed their act and now it’s time to put it into good use.
“Of course, darling. I’ll help you.” Her mother gave Daemon a small smile. “Come inside. Come on. Stay for dinner.”
They looked at each other and sighed. It’s really working. While waiting for dinner, Devon brought Daemon to her room so they could stay there. Helpers all over the mansion can’t help but give Daemon weird glances so Devon decided it’s better to have their privacy but when they’re already in her room, Devon was assaulted by the memories she had with Jeffrey there.
Daemon noticed it and went outside.
“Mrs. Farrows, can I request for another room for us to stay in? She’s uncomfortable to be in her own room. I think you understand why.”
Melena blinked as if thinking the reason why. When she somehow remembered it, she looked like she’s bitten by a snake. “S-Sure. I’ll give you the key to the guest room.”
“Daemon, can I ask you something?” She stopped him from going back to Devon.
“What is it?”
“Are you treating my daughter well?”
The question caught him off guard. Is he treating Devon well? No, not for the most time in the past.
“I am trying… for her. I’m changing because of her.”
Melena smiled widely. “That’s good to hear. Ever since, I know Devon is not cut out for our family. She’s too sweet and caring for this kind of family just like when I was young. Devon is so much like me and I don’t want her to suffer the same kind of fate I have now, Daemon.”
That statement resonated with him throughout the night making him reflect on all the struggles she had had with him.
“WHEN did you begin calling shots for this family?! Why did you let that man inside my house! I told you already never to lose your power on her begging! She is just our child!”
“She’s my child Gestoni that’s why I’m doing this. She came here asking me to help with her relationship with you. Can’t you see that our daughter is trying so hard?” Melena stifles her cries as she’s bent on her knees asking for her husband’s forgiveness. “Give her a chance, please. This is the only time that I’m requesting this. Please, for once, let your heart soften for her.”
Devon turned her back from her parent’s room and went down the stairs to go back to the dining hall to join Daemon. They’ve been waiting there for an hour now but her parents didn’t come out and she obviously knows why.
Her father’s pride cannot accept that his number one enemy has set foot in his kingdom. Another hour has passed and the soup has already gotten cold before Gestoni and Melena sat down on the table. Her mother’s eyes were swollen from crying.
Devon clenched her fists looking at this dysfunctional family which sadly, she’s a part of. She vowed that Emily will never experience this in their household once she’s back to them.
Gestoni put his gun on the table and pointed at Devon. “The only time I’m letting you again in my house is without that man beside you! Leave now!”
“Dad… Daemon is my husband,” she stood for him. “Just like how I begged mom to let us in, I also begged him to come with me. Please, I want us to be family together and leave the past behind us.”
She reached for his hand on the table. “For our baby.”
“Your baby?” Melena gasped and covered her mouth in shock while Gestoni stared hard at them trying to discern if they’re telling the truth.
“Yes, mom.” She turned to his father whose face is as hard and stoic as she can remember. “Dad, we’re here to inform you that we’re having our second baby. That’s why I came here to patch things up because I don’t want to raise my child under two rival families. I hope that from now on, we will try to get along with each other. Can you do that not for me but for your future grandson, dad?”
