Daemon’s POV
“Why do I have to fall in love with you, Devon?” he whispered while caressing her hair. Devon is already stable but I requested for her to remain in the hospital for the next few days to undergo necessary tests. “Of all people, why do I have to fall for the daughter of my mortal enemy?”
Years ago, Gestoni Farrows committed the gravest sin he could have ever done in his whole lifetime. He killed Daemon’s father in front of him because of a botched deal. He could have also killed Daemon but was stopped when his man informed him that his wife is having a labor.
That baby was Devon. For years, Daemon devised a plan to bring down Gestoni but he just grew more and more powerful. There is no way he could have beaten him and so he forced himself to resurrect the mafia group his father long abandoned and assumed the position as the leader. That’s the only way to beat Gestoni.
Maddy saw all that struggle and pain he went through. He sacrificed his humanity in order to match his rival but he couldn’t see a crack in his power not until Devon came to him personally and begged for him to marry him.
He instantly agreed. His lust for revenge marveled at the opportunity. This is the moment that he’s been waiting for.
He could use his own daughter against him. But the opposite happened. Slowly, her presence irritated him and created a way to keep his nights sleepless. One day, he woke up not acting anymore and he cares for her. That fucking love bug worked. He fell in love with that woman instead.
“But I’m done being indecisive, Devon. I’m done being a rude selfish dude. I want you to be mine completely. I want you to be happy with me because I no longer see you as your father’s daughter. You are my wife, Devon.”
Her hand twitched which he immediately took inside his hand. Fluttering, her eyes opened and met his sight.
“Are you okay? How are you feeling? A bit dizzy?” He asked after another.
She just stared at him, her eyes began welling with tears. It alerted Daemon up who called for a nurse.
“No, no need,” she stopped him. “Help me up please. I want to tell you something.”
He did what she told him and waited for her to say something.
“Daemon I…” she began but could not finish her sentence.
He soothed her through hugging her and caressing her back. “It’s okay. You don’t have to force yourself. Tell me later.”
“No, you have to know.”
She broke free from his embrace to communicate the good news. Daemon straightened his body and whispered. “Did you get your memories back?
She replied with a sob and a nod.
“Yes Daemon. I know where Emily is now. I remembered her face finally,” she said and cried uncontrollably.
Devon’s POV
The night before the attack years ago,
“It’s time you divorce Devon, Daemon. She’s done for. She’s useless. She even sabotaged your plans of having a baby. She has no use for you anymore!”
Devon gasped hard when she heard Maddy talking with Daemon in the latter’s home office. Breathing hard, she took a step closer to the door and peeked at the small opening. Maddy is sitting on the edge of the table while Daemon is standing up, his back on the door so she can’t see his face.
“It’s not yet time,” he said in a calm voice.
“Then when would be the perfect time?! She betrayed you! She played with us to make us believe that she agreed with our plan only for her to be pregnant right from the very start. Now what would we do with that baby? That’s a girl. You can’t have an heir for a daughter.”
“Shut up, Maddy. Just shut your mouth up,” Daemon uttered in a still calm tone.
“Why are you acting so cool about this. Are you starting to feel something for her?”
“Maddy, don’t be silly.”
Devon covered her mouth to prevent them from hearing her whimper in pain.
Daemon is right, Maddy. You’re silly for even thinking that he’ll feel something for me, she thought.
“Then good. You can’t fall for the daughter of the man who killed your father, can you?”
That literally sent her rooted to her feet. Everything was still for her. What is Maddy talking about?!
“We planned for this for a long time, Daemon. This is our last chance. Divorce Devon and send her back to her father. She will be devastated enough to kill herself and Gestoni will finally feel how it is to mourn just like how you did since that night he shot your father.”
Tears streamed down her face without her knowing. Shock and pain pricked into her chest until she could no longer feel her skin at all. So this is the reason why he agreed to her when she begged him to marry her.
And what about their baby? What would happen to Emily?
“I have a plan.” She heard Daemon say.
“Good. The sooner we get rid of the baby, the better,” Maddy replied.
She doesn’t have to hear all of it to know what they’re going to do. Trying to stay afloat amidst the storm that took most of her wits, she dialed a number desperately and prayed that she’d get it connected.
“Hello.”
Devon almost broke down when Ariane answered the line. She told her about her plan.
“Devon, are you really sure about it? This might get a little bit dangerous.”
She bit her lips and looked over to her baby sleeping soundly on the crib.
“I’m sure of it, Ariane. Get my baby out of here after they blow up my car.”
She has no choice. This is the only thing she can do to let her baby live.
“How about your husband?”
She sobbed. “I’ll deal with him later if I survive. But promise me, you’ll give me back my baby if I ever live.”
Ariane hesitated for a moment but still agreed.
“I promise. Now go do your plan. I’ll be right behind you.”
